Firefighter, not cop.
The only NY cop who became an actor I know of is Bo Dietl, but I don't think he's on a show right now. He did work at the WTC back then too.

This was well publicized here in NYC. Yes it was Buscemi, and yes, he was a firefighter, not a cop. Engine Co. 55 in Manhattan's Little Italy.

It's the guy who always plays Italian. I'll remember his name at some point. Tall, dark, always has a good attitude.
