Ben Affleck Says He Wasn't Fired As Director Of Batman- Uh Huh

ba

Ben Affleck says the decision for him to step down as the director for the Batman standalone movie for Warner Bros is mutual.

In a statement Monday, Affleck said it "has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require" and that he and the studio are looking for a new director.

"There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions," Affleck said in the statement. "Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give."

The studio in a statement said that it "fully supports" his decision and "remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life."

Director and Lead actor, since his Live by Night project bombed so bad at the theaters, this makes sense

  3. It would have been a bad idea to self-direct a comic book movie even for someone who had his shit together, which Affleck does not. He hasn't been seen around LA in a week. Hiding out? Rehab? Vacation with a gf? Recovering from plastic surgery?

Am I the only one that likes him? I mean I never saw him in Batman etc but some of his movies are really good and he is quit handsome...

  5. Been hearing that Warner Bros was going to require him to have a 24/7 sober companion/babysitter before and during filming. He balked because he still won't admit that he has a substance abuse problem. The relationship soured especially after Live By Night was such a disaster. This was not mutual. They forced him out.

ya but that ex-wife...I would be inhaling computer cleaner to be with THAT..

  7. Also: the detox nurse that he was spotted with was a studio requirement after he returned from Montana and was such a mess. They had to get him fixed up before he promoted LbN heavily. He rebelled and got drunk at various things, like the Amazon Golden Globes after party. The detox nurse/sober companion/"friend" hasn't been seen since and won't be.

  10. WB let him and his PR craft and release the statement so that it looks like it was his choice not to direct, and that it was for the good of the project, but it wasn't. PS. They've wanted him out of the director's chair since long before LbN bombed. That was exactly the leverage that they needed over him to get him out.

@Derek Harvey,if people didn't like him they wouldn't be that interested in his well being. He's like a family member you can't help, he seems determined to self destruct no matter what. It's clear to everyone but him that he was in no condition to direct the film, and finally someone called him out. They really don't need someone dying on a film that costs hundreds of millions.

  12. She's not an ex, though. They've never filed for divorce.

I guess I understand but seems like SO much hate towards the Afflecks---Casey was not charged with anything-the law is the law. And I am a true-blue HARDCORE feminist--people lie. Like what did Casey do exactly? According to the News he went in a girls bed when drunk and tried to spoon her? Like get over it. (Not you Guesser-but like the man shaming) And Ben--I am not a huge fan but I think he is cool--I like his face...

Ben's house of sand and fog is disintegrating in front of us all. All of this would have happened years ago had it not been for Doormat and Enabler Jen. He's a walking disaster: always has been, always will be. He's got legit addictions but is just selfish enough to refuse to acknowledge them, and enabled enough by the people in his life to get away with all of it and never have to hit rock bottom. He still has never faced any real consequences for the booze, the gambling, the women, the lack of attentiveness in the home -- the "separation" was purely for show and only so Garner could save face. He never moved out and was never going to. They played this out for PR just long enough for people to generally forget about all the scandal and will eventually embark on a how-we-saved-our-marriage media tour. Meanwhile, he will continue to smoke, drink and fuck other women. It's all fake. Like I said, house of sand and fog.

  17. He has three young kids, two of which are old enough to read the internet. If that hasn't been enough of a reason to sober up and straighten himself out, he's a goner. Shameful to raise kids around an addict like this. They will almost certainly be screwed up.

I've never hated the Afflecks, I think they've both done some really good work, but Ben is incredibly self-destructive and has been for years.

The image that he tries to portray in the press is hilarious. Recently he tried to say that he is at home and fast asleep by 10:30p every night. Hahaha. Another one: his new years resolution is to quit smoking. He has literally been saying that for years and has never once really quit. The pics don't lie like you do, Ben. Tries to say that hes a good person, then twists a black man's arm to hide his slave-owning ancestors. Goes on a pr blitz about his sexual harrasser brother, talking about how well their mother raised them. LOL

The screening of his film for the troops should have been a wake-up call to him. He took loads of pictures with them, and the way he looked and acted wasn't shown to the public by the biased media, but by just seeing him in normal situations.

I can't take the ego-crushing pressure of being in charge and thus entirely to blame for anything that goes wrong!!!

  27. Good will hunting will always be one of my favorite movies. Matt Damon seems to have handled the rise to fame well. But Ben (and his pervert brother) not so much.

I don't understand the concept of "self-directing" at all, TBH. Like, what's the point and how can you have an objective assessment of your own performance (especially if you've a Hollywierd-level ego) when even other people can't be relied on to have an objective assessment of acting? How does that even work? Do you run back to the monitors after every take to check? Evaluate dailies? So pointless.

  39. "lost his sobriety" -- that would mean that he had it at one point, which he didn't. Fake blind. Besides, who would have been present for that conversation other than Ben and Jen? Is Jen sending in her own blind items to websites now?
