Mr. X Blind Item - Old Hollywood

This permanent A+ list mostly movie actor who was probably the biggest actor on the planet at one point in time lived with another actor. He didn't even try and hide their relationship but the studios hid it for him by linking him with different women every few weeks and moving them into apartments next door to him or in the same complex.

Cary Grant lived with Randolph Scott as "bachelors" for years. JD wasnt huge until after he died.

And we're expected to narrow this down?

  6. Yeah I'm not sure anyone could say James Dean was ever in his life considered the biggest actor on the planet. Like Heath Ledger and River Phoenix weren't in their lifetimes either.

Well there are only so many A+ actors who were the biggest actor on the planet at some point in their lifetime, and James Dean was not one of them. (Nor were River Phoenix or Heath Ledger.)

Though Grant and Scott did live together openly, it was in a house rather than an apartment. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Marlon Brando and Wally Cox.

I may be wrong but I think the blind is trying to say the studio moved the girlfriends into apartments next door or near him so it could be Grant/Scott. In fact it is probably supposed to be them despite any details given.

Pretty sure it was Grant and Scott.

Though it could also have been Rudolf Valentino and Ramon Novarro.

Cary Grant/Randolph Scott. They each occasionally had serious girlfriends, then would always go back to each other. They were featured, photographed together in a high profile home decor magazine or book. I forgot which one. One of them was photographed playing the piano for the other. No one thought anything of it.

Brando lived with a geeky gay guy. Don't remember his name but he was a skinny thing. He never denied it. The fact that Brando at the time really didn't care when most did hide their ways.

I remembered the publication in which Cary Grant and Randolph Scott's home was featured. It was Architectural Digest.

Brando was the first name that came to me. "Biggest actor" not only star power but also he was very overweight as he got older. Dozens of younger stars modeled themselves after Brando & his acting techniques.

Cary Grant's a good guess but Clark Gable & others were from his same era & were probably equally ranked with him. Brando really had no one else on his same level (whether he deserved that adulation or not).

Likely Cary Grant and Scott. I don't think of him as the " biggest actor on the planet" but the blind says" at one point" , and this is more likely, like he was the biggest at one point of his career.

Anyway, most people talk about R Scott, and yes, there has been him, but i have seen a documentary, very interesting, about the Costumist Orry Kelly, he was a VERY great Costumist, won THree Oscar, designed the costumes for Someone Like it Hot, for Casablanca , and well, this documentary was based on Kelly's autobiogtraphy, and he talked about Cary Grant, how they lived together and how Cary was HIS BOYFRIENd.

Never knew that someone has ever talked so openly about Grant ( the biography was said to be lost, and someone said that Grant tried to stop its publication ) Very interesting, really

    Brando may be right, too.

I saw that documentary too - always knew about Grant + Scott being best friends and possibly occasional lovers, but Orry Kelly came off as more than a little full of himself and bitter. Didn't really come off too well, I thought.

Well, he felt betrayed by Cary, that according to him acted like he didn't existed anymore. Cary Grant doesn't come out off too well, albeit he still has his charme in my eyes.
