  1. Kindness is so rare, and flirting so common.

  3. I know the pain of unintentional flirting.

In the past, while trying to be friendly with female business associates I'd find it very difficult.

It used to be, I'd say something like:
    "Hi, how are you?"
    And, they'd respond, "I'm married!"
Or, even worse, "When do you want to meet up?"

With age, I guess I've learned to stay distant, and that seemed to work.

    I'll say, "Hi!"
    They'd say, "Hello."

Then, I'd immediately proceed with the CRE business we were conducting.

Jesse Just must have seen the Kate\Melanie Lynsky movie from years ago and thought Kate likes girls. (heavenly creatures)

Heavenly Creatures, by the way, being an absolutely fantastic movie and one which I highly recommend. Heavy, though.

Especially when you're brought up to be polite to service workers, but then they're so accustomed to being treated like shit by other customers, it blows their minds when they get one who's not mean for once.

What I don't like are delivery guys, because not only do they know where you live, they also have your number (some have no boundaries and will start texting/IM-ing you). Some of them have turned into stalking or "semi-blackmail" situations (where they won't leave the delivery with another family member/maids, they'll only hand the delivery if I accept in person—but you're not home all the time and you need the product, it's so unprofessional).

Neurotypicals are just going to flirt with each other to death unless they procreate to prevent extinction. Fucking dinosaurs should just fuck off from the earth anyway. Bring in the Vulcans.

But it's just acting, and she's a grown-up (I used to think that everything on telly was a "documentary" when I was little—not just stuff like "Golden Girls" and "Mister Rogers", like even classic "Star Trek" was real to me). People always mistake you for the roles you play and fall in love with that.

... And the Winslet character was revealed (about a decade ago) to be Ann Perry, hugely popular writer of Victorian murder mysteries. Her parents changed her name and brought her to England when she was released from prison.
