Your Turn

Staying home this weekend? I try my best to never go anywhere Memorial Day weekend. Too many memories of being stuffed in the backseat stuck in traffic while my parents argued about who had the bright idea to take a road trip.

Yes I no longer enjoy going travelling the airlines ruined it for me and no train service in this general area. I won't even consider the Greyhound bus.

Backyard with BBQ chicken wings and beer while watching the dog dig and chase birds. Lay some flowers for the old folks on Sunday.

I'll be hosting the annual "Ladies In Cable Journalism Memorial Day Pig Roast" this weekend. Let's hope we can keep Mika Brzezinski away from the Whiskey Sour fountain this year. Now that she's engaged, she needs to keep her hands off you know who

We stay put as we live near Speedway IN and there are a lot of out of town folks visiting here this weekend. Usually get the vegetable garden in.

  7. Staying home -- except for my Lawyer friend's daughter's wedding.
Just going to enjoy the day and relax the remainder.

Now that you mention it: Having Ribs sound good!

Back in the 50s we would drive from Savannah to Atlanta to visit friends & relatives. We girls (3) would be on our best behavior in the car or dad wouldn't stop for frudge at Stuckey's! Lord those were simple, happy, wholesome times! Make America Great Again? Sorry, Donald, that ship has sailed.

Sorry, FUDGE. Already opened a bottle of Barbados Rum and it's not even Friday evening! I can't imagine what my comments are gonna be like tomorrow. Think I'm gonna go cold turkey on CDAN until I sober up.

  15. I don't really do anything for most long weekends. I might camp if I had a trailer (no tenting for this old lady anymore!), but it's always so busy and loud in the parks and not really relaxing at all.

My lover drove up for the weekend. We're not going anywhere special.

I have a slight case of agoraphobia. Unfortunately my long lost cousin and my dad's brother are coming in to see my dad. My dad and his siblings were split up into foster families when they were young (long sad story). Anyway, his brother and niece are coming in for a visit. My dad is throwing a barbecue and if I don't go, feelings will be hurt and there will be a million phone calls. So I have to bite the bullet and just go. Hopefully, everything will go o.k. and there won't be any panic attacks. Wish me luck.

Wow, if not for the dad and brother thing, your post could have been written by me! Prozac keeps the panic attacks at bay, but with my agoraphobic tendencies get-togethers with my large, dysfunctional family are always difficult. Best of luck to you!

  19. I'll avoid the roads as much as possible due to drunk drivers all weekend (beer runs in the middle of the day from running out at a pool party/BBQ, or just people drinking because it's a long weekend). I hope people do stop to remember what Monday is all about.
I'll be with loved ones all weekend.
One of my best friends, Navy vet, died recently and I want to honor him. Also, my grandfather liberated camps in WW2 while my other grandfather was in the Navy at the time.
They were never the same once they came home, according to my family, but they lost others close to them and I honor those memories too.
(I know I've over-answered...but it was my turn so I took it. Read or scroll, it's ok. I'm just sharing since I can.)
    Have a safe weekend.

It went well. Thanks. I ended up installing a printer in the back bedroom, which meant less contact with the crowd. That was easier for me.

Thank you. I stayed in the bedroom that they use as an office, installing a printer. I like doing those kinds of things, so it went well.
