Google image empty abandoned malls. Makes you wanna cry. It will be a slow death for brick and mortar big stores but the horse and buggy went away eventually. I can't think of a functional replacement though. Right now it looks like Target, Ross, and TJ Maxx are siphoning from the Nordstroms and Macy's. I go to malls and look at the smaller stores, empty, things over priced, people walking around like automatons, no shopping bags in sight. I always wonder how they can stay open. I just came across StichfIx.com, you have your own stylist, sort of. When Bezos finds out he'll buy them out.
I hope not, if you have an odd body type, like I do, there is no substitute for trying things on instead of on line shopping. Particularly when I need a formal for a singing gig.
I was just thinking about this. Ordering online can be fun, and you can get online deals, but between shipping costs, and wait time, it's six of one, half dozen of the other between buying online vs. in a store. The both have upsides and downsides, which I think even each other out.
I think most will and most malls in the city I live in feel mostly empty except one near me that has been redone and attracts a more diverse community. That mall is crowded and bustling.
The one that died in the town where I live is currently being resurrected. Sucks, because it's death spurred a revitalization of the downtown and it would be a huge shame if that went away.
Yes...our local mall has been reamed of name-brand stores (american eagle, banana republic, gap, etc) with generic stores with cheap clothing... (rainbow, etc). Looks like a ghost town, or at least a thug convention. Random shootings etc. ....Can't have anything nice in this town!!! I would 70% rather try on clothes at the store vs. worry with shipping returns. I'd 100% chose not to go to a place that cant guanuntee my safety. -Memphis

ReplyDeleteI used to love them when I was younger. I haven't been to a mall in 7+yrs and no desire to go back. Blame Amazon.
ReplyDeleteGod I hope so. I can only hope strip malls die too. Replace the malls with parks and replace the strip malls with boutiques and mom & pop restaurants.

yes I live near a high end mall; the only store that always looks busy is Apple and maybe Chipotle
