This former A list singer in a group and solo still has A list name recognition but is going to be dropped by her record label. Anyway, this is not about sales, it is about missing a party for an annual life event of a child.
It definitely reads as if they are dropping her for missing her son's birthday party. The qualifier "It's not about sales, it's about.." suggests that pretty clearly. And that would be odd for the label to care about the son's party.
