This permanent A list singer from an initialed band that is also permanently A list is really sweating things out right now. My guess is that underage teen boy he kept sexually assaulting who starred in one of his videos is probably not the only underage teen he slept with.

ReplyDeleteSide note, when I as 15 or 16, the lead singer of the Melvins tried to get me up to his hotel room. I declined. All of these recent accusations reminded me of that night I had completely forgotten about.
I was a major concert/show goer in my teens and lucky to say the few band guys who hit on me, found out my age and backed off....a few after they realized I had just turned 18. Still see some of those guys around. People aren't all bad.

ReplyDeleteas someone who's been through sexual abuse/trauma it's starting to feel like a huge betrayal every time i hear a new story of this shit. i pray this isn't true but it probably is. i really like REM. i really loved spacey as an actor. (i know rumors went around about him for years, but people use perceived potential child abuse as an excuse for homophobia VERY often so i took them all with a grain of salt). of course i can separate the art from the artist and i'll still listen to them, but it's such a kick in the crotch to learn that a person you enjoyed for so long is a perpetrator of the same kind of abuse that fucked you up.

ReplyDeleteUh! Fuck I hope this ones not true. I know a lot of the stuff he supposedly got up to in Athens has been GREATLY exaggerated over the years. A friend of mine lived there in the 80s and said he wasn't as much of a slut as people thought he was. Also if it was anyone it wasn't Noa Ray from ITEOTWAWKI video. He had nice things to say about the band ( although he was bullied horribly at school after the vid became popular.)
ReplyDeleteIt may be worth noting that the underage teen who starred in a certain video was not (according to an article near the top of the google search results on the subject) just some random boy from that college town, but apparently an aspiring kid performer type. He'd been doing "skateboard videos" in a neighboring state when the director of said video "discovered" him.

ReplyDeleteI happened to spend some time with him in the 90s. He's a nice guy, a bit crazy but not in a pervy way. He did a lot of work behind the scenes with RAINN and was horrified by the notion of anyone being pressured into sex. He hated a certain elder gay entertainer because said person once had sex with a very drunk friend of his and he considered it rape. So I can't believe this one.
I'd actually believe Bono was fiddling that kid from their videos before this one.
Yeah, not buying this one either.
