Speaking of therapy, this former A+ list mostly movie actress walked away from the spotlight a few years back. Everyone thought it was because of the roles she was being offered or that she had a fear of failing, but it turns out something happened on her second to last movie and it made her never want to do another one again. Her last movie was a favor she felt like she couldn't walk away from.

I'm not sure if the second to last movie is Sex Tape but The Other Woman right before that was directed by Nick Cassavetes.

ReplyDeleteSomeone please detective work the case of the missing Cam D! I love her so much and miss her. I have never seen Sex Tape because it looked so awful and she didn't really seem to want to promote it.

ReplyDeleteShe had three films released in 2014 and they are listed, by earliest to last release date, as The Other Woman, Sex Tape and Annie. Unfortunately that doesn't prove what order that were shot in because of post production, marketing etc. For example Annie was probably only released in December to get the children's Christmas holiday market. I'm tempted to guess that Sex Tape may be her last film produced inasmuch as it was directed by Jake Kasdan, who had previously directed her in the hugely successful Bad Teacher. So I could see that as an "obligation" that she couldn't walk away from.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Annie and Sex Tape were both filmed around the same time, so it'd make sense that she couldn't walk away literally during production.
ReplyDeleteBut I would've thought Sex Tape was more likely to be the "favor"; she'd worked with Jake Kasdan and Jason Segel before on Bad Teacher and I think they were still friendly.
I note that Jay-Z was a producer of Annie.

ReplyDeleteMaybe the bad experience was The Other Woman, the favor was Sex Tape, and Annie was bad enough that Enty decided not to acknowledge its existence in the blind.
ReplyDeleteEven with some details smudged, it doesn't seem like it can be The Counselor, she hadn't been cast in any of her last 3 roles by the time production finished on that, so she was clearly still looking for roles. Whereas she was already signed on to Sex Tape and Annie when The Other Woman was filming, so they were still obligations if something happened there.

ReplyDeleteThe Counselors was long before her second to last film, but he may have referenced that as a clue leading to Diaz, rather than the movie she had issues with. The blind right before this one was about someone in therapy.

ReplyDeleteProbably not a casting couch situation. My definition of "casting couch" is consensual sex. I think for something to traumatise her, it had to be forced, harassment, or downright assault.

I think the problem movie was Annie. Diaz already had positive experiences with the creators of both of her other 2014 releases. Annie did good business but was a disaster of a movie, partly because Diaz' performance was atrocious. She's usually good but was brutally bad in this one and was slammed by critics. I don't think that's the issue, though. I fear it has something to do with the girls who played orphans in the movie. Notably, quvenzhane Wallis, who was already an Oscar nominee and was by far the best thing about the movie, appears to have prematurely retired from the industry. After Annie came out it looked for sure like she was going to be a huge star. Instead she's done nothing since then but an appearance in beyonce's lemonade and some brief voice work for the animated trolls movie. If she wanted, she could have a ton of big film projects lined up, but instead she has nothing on deck. No movies, no tv. She appears to have turned her back on Hollywood and is writing children's books instead. Impressive, but it makes you wonder.
