This A list rapper has spent almost $250K on some clothes and security for this weekend and is trying to bill it to the record company. Why? Because she has spent everything she has and is living on their credit right now. She spends nearly $50K every day on things and is taking in about $10K.

Obviously the 'list' ratings (A, B, etc) are hugely relative to their respective categories.

I hope the things she's spending on have some resale value. But they probably don't. Anyone who was raised with such a complete lack of awareness of money management and the value of a dollar, is not going to have much foresight. I'm sure it will come as a complete shock to her when she is dropped by the label and presented with a large bill.

ReplyDeleteAs for the A listing, she has "made" some big hits in a very short time. She is a money maker - low salary and big profits. She jumped from IG celeb to reality tv then jumped to A list with Bodak Yellow, and makes for great viewing (she's the real life version of every "bad girl" character on reality shows, including her own).
Technically she is a one hit wonder still since her other hits were features on other artist's tracks, but she's the first female rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill (about 20 years ago) and the certified triple platinum, double Grammy nominated Bodak Yellow is tied with Saylor Twits "Look What You Made Me Do" for holding the #1 spot 3 weeks in a row (I personally like that part. Taylor has to share a Billboard Hot 100 record with Cardi B's song about going from stripper to land-yachter - my new word copyright pending). She also won 5 BET Hip Hop awards, 1 Soul Train Music Award, and has 4 iHeartRadio Music nominations for this year's upcoming show. She is also the first female to have five (simultaneous) top 10 hits on the Billboard R&B list.
As long as she's making them money, through music or appearance fees, she's ok. But she needs another solid hit of her own or she'll fall from A list quick - She is honest about her desire to make hits over good music.
Back to the crips thing. Cardi is surrounded by red in her neighborhood, but I'm sure she'll have to spend a lot on security moving around now. How she spends so much, I have no idea. Even with a $3k rent apt and loving to shop, where does that money go? I'll end my unnecessarily long comment that seems to be pro-Cardi, which I was until her lgbt comments - she a rags to riches story without the sugar sweet personality. She's Opposite Annie and I love it because rich people HATE new money, especially from loud, melanin proud, raunchy, body flaunting, rappers. That's the reality show she should do - film herself interacting with the "elites"

I don't believe she was ever rolling in the money. One hit wonders rarely do. They typically owe more to the record label; which I bet she currently does and has. She needs to work on a big hit solo album just to get out from under her current debt with them. THEN thereafter she'll make some money. But, leasing/buying/whatever boyfriend's Bentley's et al, takes one into the poor house quickly add jewelry into it. But, she'll be forever swathed in expensive security since she's a gang member. smh
