Blind Item #8 - Field Trips

This actor was probably B+ list at his prime as far as acting went. He was probably an A list celebrity at his peak though because of his almost daily (well weekday) appearances on multiple television shows. One of those shows was basically a drunken mob of celebrities who would spend all day getting progressively more drunk while in front of the cameras playing a very easy game which required very little actual thought. A book could be written about everything behind the scenes. I am just focusing on one person right now. He would run into some parent with a tween boy at a grocery store and strike up a conversation and the whole point was to find out what school the boy went to. He then would start talking about getting the boy's class invited to the show for a field trip. The school would invariably say yes and then with the one teacher and a couple of parents star struck and also drinking, the actor would find some boy he found attractive and take him back to his dressing room where he might give him some booze or a pill and then molest the boy or have the boy touch him. This happened dozens of times and the show knew it was happening but didn't want to do anything about one of the main attractions of the show.

  2. If this is Paul Lynde I don't want to know.

  3. Or Match Game? Charles Nelson Reilly?

  4. Why do the Hell's Angels wear leather? Because chiffon wrinkles too easily!

  5. Match Game (which I loved in the 70s) was another show where they were all drunk all the time.

    I thought the same Tuesdi

My mind immediately went to Win, Lose or Draw

  9. People actually let Charles Nelson Reilly near kids?

    1. He was definitely very flamboyant. You would think that the teachers would be apprehensive. Paul was ahem more macho.and on Bewitched.

    2. I can’t imagine many people being star stuck by Charles.
      Waylon & Madam, maybe 😎

  10. Match Game over Hollywood Squares.

CNR or (please god no) Richard Dawson.

  11. I thought Match Game or Hollywood Squares, and Hollywood Squares seems more likely to be appropriate for school field trips.

  12. +1 Tuesdi agree. I remember Reilly being a mainstay along with the actress who played Blanche on the Odd Couple. Very loose show compared to Squares. I can see drinking being a requirement on March Game.

  13. While playing a very easy game - tic tac toe....Hollywood Squares it is.

  14. @ Don: my thought as well. I considered Win Lose Or Draw but nixed it.

  15. Match Game (the original) was known for their drunken shenanigans. They would shoot one episode in the morning, then take a long lunch break where everyone got smashed, and come back and tape a second episode where they were off the wall.

No idea about this blind. Regulars included Charles Nelson Reilly, Richard Dawson, Nipsey Russell, Bill Daily.

  16. Charles Nelson Reilly immediately came to mind. Match Game truly required no thought. I'm surprised and impressed that so many people here came up with his name so quickly.

  17. Jim J. Bullock/Hollywood Squares

  18. At this point schools should just institute celebrity free zones, an IMDB no fly list, too many of these horror stories.

  19. oh sh-- I forgot JJB was on there as well. He defo had the creeper vibe!

  21. I haven't heard the name Jim J BUllock is such a long time. I forgot about Monroe. I don't think it's him. I hope it's not him, since he knew he was HIV positive before being on Hollywood Squares.

  22. Maybe someone less obviously gay, though? Paul Lynde was so out there and always seemed drunk or high. Richard Dawson seems like he would more easy to fool parents, and maybe fits the acting rating.

    ReplyDelete
  23. They were all drunk & stoned on Match Game--it was so obvious! Hollywood Squares, too. Hope this isn't Paul Lynde...ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Forgot about Dawson though but I don't see him out shopping to try and meet moms though.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ugh. My first thought was also CNR, they were always tanked on Match Game. Just horrible not only that it happened, but the show covered it up!

I *love* JM J Bullock (he reminded me of a cross between George Michael and Gomer Pyle), but I don't see Hollywood Squares protecting him - they could survive without him.

  26. My mind won't let this be Paul Lynde. I just wouldn't be able to cope

  27. Remember people! The vast majority of pedo's are STRAIGHT WHITE MEN. Not gay men. Gene Rayburn...but was he an actor. Creepy AF w/ that "microphone".

    1. This particular blind IS about a gay man. Can you read?

      Delete
    2. This blind is about a child molester. It is not about a gay man. No where in the blind does it state it was a gay celebrity. The sex of the children involved does not mean it wasn’t a “straight” celebrity.

  28. SD Auntie +1 "Paul was ahem more macho" Thanks for the coffee nasal rinse that gave me, lol! Of all the names mentioned who is the one that has the best shot at talking moms and schools into these trips?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kitty Carlisle was fun too! Dawson loved women too much and actually banged with some of the guests on his show. As a kid, i was crazy about Paul and was so sad when he died. Hope its not him but it probably is. Gong show is another favorite. Maybe but it was weekly

    ReplyDelete
  30. I certainly prefer to think this is not a "creepy" man who happened to be gay at a time when being openly gay was not an option.
He was a pedophile whoever he is.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Now I'm sad thinking about Rose Marie again from her time on the show.
As for Paul Lynde, there was the young lover (24-not teen) who fell/jumped/was pushed from the St Francis Drake Hotel in 1965 (James "Bing" Davidson) while partying with Lynde and was covered up in the press. That doesn't equate to child molester by any means, but he was said to be a mean drunk and rough top.

  32. Dawson was an actor on Hogan’s Heroes. He was also on daily multiple tv shows at once with Family Fued and Match Game.

  33. Hmmm the blind states multiple television shows so someone who was on more than one show.

  34. Hollywood Squares... George Gobel.
    Totally off the cuff.

  35. I hope it's not Paul... Remembered he was Herman Munster's hard of sight doctor who thought Herman's hairy hand was a family pet of some sort. I'm in a agreement with whoever said look towards straight acting people. Lot of them seemed creepy.

  36. Hollywood Squares... George Gobel.
    Totally off the cuff.

  37. Probably Charles Nelson Reilly. I think Paul Lynde was into men, not kids.

  39. My instincts tell me it's Charles Nelson Reilly, especially after looking at all of the many appearances he made at the same time. He also consequently had a career within Children's television which pedophiles are attracted to.

  40. I'm reminded that Dom DeLuise was known for calling young bellhops up to his hotel room and assaulting them, though they would be of legal age. He appeared on the old version of Squares but I don't know if he was considered a top draw until his later run on the show.

Later day Dom was too fat to get in and out of his square when they changed clothes to shoot another day's show, so they would put up a sheet and dress him on the set.

  41. Anybody stick out as being involved with organizations or charities involving youth? I was molested at school in first grade then in middle school age by a neighbor who like to help kids in the hood fix bike chains or build go carts. Neither one acted gay but the latter of the two acted young like he wanted to relate AS a young person despite being married with kids. Major Healey was on a number of sitcoms and was kind of a silly person like a kid.

    1. So sorry that happened to you. Cdaners and homophobes please note that this is the married neighboorhood "nice guy ". Not all pedo's reside in Hollyweird and most pedos are straight married guys who cultivate either a hyper masculine image or a religious image or a very nice guy image. Watch your kids as closely as possible. Warn them that most predators will try to seem friendly and "nice".

    2. Thanks for the sound advice halloweenie. Especially about married men lurking around their kids friends. @datonebone, Major Healey hit on a former friend of mine in the late 80's. She was grossed out because he was old enough to be her dad and was as drunk as a skunk . We hated older men in the 80's. Lol

  49. Hollywood Squares. CNR or Wally Cox.

  50. Mister Peepers was a strange squirrel for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Wiki on W Cox: "He became the roommate of Marlon Brando, who encouraged him to study acting with Stella Adler. Cox and Brando remained close friends for the rest of Cox's life, and Brando appeared unannounced at Cox's wake. Brando is also reported to have kept Cox's ashes in his bedroom and conversed with them nightly."

    ReplyDelete
  52. +3 for Sd Auntie: Bill Daley was great on Bob Newheart. Cox was the voice of Underdog. These and other blinds slowly erode my childhood. I read enough Brando stuff in my short time here to know that connection is a red flag.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I loved the Bob Newhart Show when I was a kid! I still laugh when I think of Howard's brother "Warden Gorden Borden from Jordan."

    ReplyDelete
  54. When there's a blind about young girls being molested, people will say, "It couldn't be so-and-so, because he's gay." Funny how that works.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Charles Nelson Reilly was also on a few kids shows on Saturday mornings. Lidsville being one of them. I think this is him.

    Source: Me, I'm old.

    ReplyDelete
  56. @Everybody,my point was someone who looked straight and held their liquor better would have a much easier time talking to parents and getting access to kids. Paul Lynde had many scandalous stories about him,but not pedo ones. I think it is someone who was presumed straight.

    ReplyDelete
  57. From the 3 top guesses of Paul Lynde, CNR, and Richard Dawson I would guess Paul just because I loved him as a child. I don't remember CNR so I probably would not have known him at a grocery store, Richard Dawson ALWAYS gave me the creeps even as a child, but I would have been drawn to Paul because he was so wacky and funny. I hope it is just BS. These gossip sights have destroyed everything I thought was wholesome and good.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kelli "Warden Gorden Borden from Jordan." Brilliant shows in one Saturday night Newhart, Mary then Carol.

Snap: Richard Dawson has the least authenticity of those 3 but what if it were a game show host... What parent wouldn't fall for them?

  59. Back in the 60's and early 70's every supermarket had at least one guy working who looked like Charlie Weaver right down to the glasses, suspenders, weird tie and straw hat.

    ReplyDelete
  60. THIS HAD BETTER NOT BE PAUL LYNDE.

    that is all.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Richard Dawson seems to fit like a glove, *BUT* he was a noted poon hound. He would've been far more interested in the boys' mothers

  62. I was on Hollywood Squares. They didn't let us talk to anyone. John Davidson was the host. Not very nice.

  63. True field trip story: a teacher, who would go on to be mayor took his students from the local "alternative" highschool to the Milwaukee morgue for a field trip. Weeks later, the woman they visited with, was busted for keeping a collection of jars in her basement. She had been harvesting cadaver's penis's and pickling them. True story, can't make this stuff up! Reuther-kenosha,wi

  64. According to one of the people behind An Open Secret, boys are the most abused. People who claim to be straight, doing homosexual things are quite bizarre indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  65. This makes me think of the Gong Show. Looking at video from that show today, its obvious they were all three sheets in wind. Especially the host.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm thinking Gary Burgoff. He was on Match Game all the time and on MASH at the same time. He comes across very creepy and angry. Everyone on MASH disliked him and said he had major issues.
