ReplyDeletePoor thing is a part of Solange's Mahogany meltdown. Both their songs and aesthetics are annoying & unorginal. Stop creating awards for these artists that fanstasize about the 70s like they are re-inventing soul. Those of us that lived through it couldnt wait for the 80s!

ReplyDeleteThe CTRL album came out in the summer and was an urban music sensation from the second it dropped. People had been looking forward to her album and she delivered big time. She was absolutely A- list in October when this blind was written. And she hasn’t vanished, she has a song on the urban charts right now. Sheesh people.

ReplyDeleteSorry, I just don’t buy it, and the blind was written in August, not October. Listen, I like SZA and have for a few years. I just would argue that her status was building over the summer (from mainly urban to more mainstream), so A- rating at the point the blind was written seems very generous.
ReplyDeleteOff of name recognition alone, Pink, Brandy (both names tossed out on the original blind) or Solange would make more sense.
I just think this is an example of enty inserting a “flavor of the moment” into a blind about someone else. 🤷🏽♀️
Yeah but usually entry doesn’t require mainstream success to label someone A list. He goes by how popular they are in their world. Remember all the debate about Mary J Blidge being permanent A list?
ReplyDeleteSZA’s album came out in a June and people have not been shutting up about it since so that’s what I was going on. Yeah she started becoming more visible as time went on because of that Maroon 5 song and whatnot but all I know is I must have heard The Weekend 10000 times before school started lol.
The RZA, The GZA, The SZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon The Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah and The Method Man.
