This A-/B+ list closeted mostly television actor who has had a good month or two on television as of late and probably will get an Emmy nomination for it told a story last night which he made a blind. He says he hooks up with a closeted Under Secretary each time he goes to Washington D.C.

ReplyDeleteWhat benefit is it to Criss (or Murphy) that Criss is seen as heterosexual? It’s not like he’s storming any studio gates as the next big heterosexual action hero.*
He got his start as the most camp Harry Potter ever.
His big break was playing the moony-eyed singing gay teen boyfriend of openly gay Chris Colfer’s incredibly camp Kurt Hummel.
He went on to broadway and got huge press for doing Hedwig, one of the few “straight” actors to take up the mantle.
He’s now back in the news playing an infamous gay serial killer...
And he would have had to anticipate a need to seem believably heterosexual all the way back to his college years at UofM when he and Mia Swier began their relationship (of whatever nature).
And yet he resisted changing his floppy haired hipster image until he was literally ready to quit Hollywood in spite of it getting in the way of him realizing his dreams as an actor? A haircut sounds a lot less effort than maintaining a beard since you were a teen in Michigan off the hopes of hitting the Hollywood big time.
Do what am I missing? What IS the benefit to Criss? What is the benefit to Murphy that Criss would be seen as heterosexual (if indeed that was in a contract as someone else here suggested).
I really don’t care what Darren Criss’ sexuality looks like when it’s at home. I just really feel like I’m missing something here that would make it all make sense to me like it does to all of you and enty.
I just don’t GET this one.

ReplyDeleteFYI, the big DC names are Secretaries (i.e., Carson, Perry, etc.). There are dozens and dozens of Undersecretaries with no name recognition so unlikely it'd be possible to guess.
