The story being told about what happened to this A list YouTube star is leaving out the detail that the star groped a woman without her consent which led to everything else that happened after.

    1. well at least the hollyweirdos have a real talent at what they do. YouTube stars have no talent. I’ve seen Jake or Logan Paul, what is their talent. Pewdiepie plays video games.

Or possibly Kian Lawley. Videos of him making racist comments surfaced recently. Maybe as payback for assaulting/harassing someone.

Also,,@MontanaMarriott, Enty often does YpiTube star blinds. Celebs is celebs, even if we aren't in the age bracket to get it

  7. @Sal Salington And also Me. I know very few You Tubers and most of them went "mainstream news" for one reason or another.
I know Milo Yano-WhatshisFace Started on YouTube.

@Vessimede Barstool YouTube has been on for over 10 years. Yet none of them managed any real mainstream Success, and not for lack of trying. They are not tallented enough, nor do they know how to behave.
I`m realy sorry, us over 35 croud, don`t see the entertamient in being a "jackass"-prankster, or playing computer games while calling eachother raical slurs.

  8. I am over 30. I enjot YouTube but I don't waste time watching people pull ridiculous stunts and such. It was originally meant for us little people to post vlogs, showcase talent, etc. Now it is all about the money.

How many A listers got their start on YouTube? Exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 'Mainstream success'? Are you kidding me?? Pewdepie has 70 millions subscribers to his channel. The Paul bros are also in the tens of millions. Every video they pump out, low effort crap that costs hundreds of dollars to make, gets MILLIONS of views. They're raking in massive amounts of money. Cable is dying on it's ass, as is network TV. You really think these kids are looking for jobs on some crappy low rent cable channel? No one watches TV anymore except dementia ridden old boomers.

  10. We probably should pay attention to the YouTubers,a lot of them have been accused of sexual assault and other crimes. They have a bigger fan base than say,Teen Moms, but we get blinds about them. Maybe anyone with kids or grand children might want to check in on these people.

  11. @TW,if you are over Fortyish, advertisers don't care about you. Vessimede Barstool is mostly right, a lot of people are making bank on YouTube, with next to nothing spent. All you need is an iPhone or a Go Pro and you're in business.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Vessimede Barstool LOL, good one. In what world MILO is an A lister?
In the same world a dude playing computer games, while calling other people "Fucking N****ers", is entertaiment ?
Then I`ll stay an old grandma, thank you.
And they will stay only on YouTube. I hope they`ll invest their money Wisely, and no into "BITCONNECT", because they have the life span of a meme.
Kids grow up fast, and They will get older. And a new Jackass-prankster will come along.
But I do like the "BITCONNECT" memes. The perfect metaphore for the YouTube generation.

  13. YouTube vloggers are great for niche stuff.

I follow quite a few Disney vloggers and would recognize them in public faster than just about anybody currently on TV other than Mark Harmon.

I've cut the cord and only have Hulu as a subscription and I use that for reruns of things like ER. I get CBS and NBC and Fox through the antenna but honestly hate the commercials so much I can't get through a full hour of live television. Most of the new stuff is awful and networks rarely give shows time to grow a following anymore so I won't invest in them until they've been on a couple of years.

YouTube also does streaming service and is doing original content to compete with Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix so I expect more of these.

  14. Youtubers are mainstream with people under 35. No one wants to be on dying legacy media.

Jake Paul stopped his daily vlog last week for no real reason.

  15. Alessia Cara, Pentatonix, The Weeknd (as xoxxxoooxo), 5 Seconds of Summer

  16. The value -- and likelihood -- of youtubing success is vastly overrated. A kid can make a stupid song that becomes a meme and his dad blows it on a Ferrari and then lighting of course doesn't strike again. A jackass like Logan Paul is proof of concept that they are really flashes in the pan. Also, if their financial success meant anything in the long run, why are these people trying to make deals in Hollywood? They know more than their viewers that their success is fleeting. their core audience is if nothing else fickle.

The real long-term money on youtube is in the gaming world, where the established ones keep cranking out videos. There's always a new version of a game to come along, and kids will flock to the service for tips and jokes. As long as they don't offend an entire race, nationality or nation (often the basis of their success) they can keep on making dumb videos.

  17. @Vessemide Barstool, Lurker, Guesser, and Lurky McLurkster:

Thanks for taking my question seriously. I am under 40 years of age.

Someone listed names of people who started on YouTube. I knew about Bieber, didn't know that is how the Weeknd git his start.

You guys have proved my point in a round about way. I have no clue who Alessia Cara and 5 Seconds of Summer are. I thought Pentatonix got their start on tv talent shows. YouTube was meant for people to broadcast and express themselves. More YouTubers deserve to be famous in my opinion.

As for some people having millions of views, each time I view the same thing it gets counted as a view when I am not logged into my account. Yes, I know that does not account for millions of views.

I see wonderful YouTube videos, a lot if them have less than 100 views. Let someone pull a prank and they get a million views.

I agree with you that YouTube is important but YouTube itself lost its way after Google bought it out.

  18. @TW, YouTube is now in the TV live stream now, they did the World Series and are planning exclusive shows.

    1. @Guesser - Yes, I know but I still thank you for sharing because some others may not know. I have the YouTube app on my Roku too. YouTube Red ads keep popping up. I ain't paying for that. If I can pay for that then I can pay for cable & satellite. The only reason I have the Amazon service is because I am in school. Amazon Prime pays for itself. I have Roku cuz I need internet at home to do my work. Might as well get hundreds of bizarre channels for free. I wish CBS was free cuz I can't get it iver the air.

  19. When blogging was the thing and everyone had one (pre-Twitter) the youngs were talking about print as a "dying media" while trying to score a book deal and getting excited when they got published in a newspaper. Some are now making appearances on cable news as a talking head, others are writing for publications that still do print. WAPO, the Times and the New Yorker subscriptions are way up. Stop with this dying media nonsense. The big companies will adapt and survive like the Borg.

  22. @tetsujin I work in media, and had the good fortune to work briefly in print, but it is dying. Just cause there are a couple of prestige titles that manage to hang on, it's over, web has taken over, it is just a much more efficient, cost-effective delivery method, with a much wider reach. Print is extremely expensive to produce, especially for magazines.

  23. I'm still skeptical on the PewDiePie blinds where he has revenge porn and bragging about raping girls. You're telling me, Pewdiepie, one of the biggest youtubers in the world is bragging about raping a girl on twitter and no one, not even DramaAlert and Scarce would get on this in a heartbeat? Ricegum and Toby Turner have allegations and are still struggling with the stigma from their bad behavior. I don't know about the revenge porn stuff, but the rape allegation is bullshit. Unlike most accusations, tangible evidence seems to exist. If it exist then if should be posted everywhere. PewDiePie isn't Bryan Singer. I don't even think Logan Paul is that protected either.

  24. I'm an old guy and I love the YouTubes. I watch all kinds of video lectures and instructional videos like: Nietszche v Hegel, who wore Nihilism better? or How to swap out the bearings in your washing machine, and How to retune your motorcycle for better performance. I really don't care either way about some dumbfuck millenials that appeal to other dumbfuck millenials that are too lazy to actually think for themselves.

  25. On the blind itself. This sounds like someone who left. What comes to mind is Anthony from Smosh or RWJ. I think it might be the latter since he has attempted to do some Hollywood stuff.

  26. "Youtubers are mainstream with people under 35."

No, not really. I have teen/YA kids and they can name a couple of very specific people related to the things they like (makeup tutorials for one, video games for the others), but in general most of the names don't really register for any of them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is a lot of genuine talent on youtube. There is also a lot of trash.
Justin Beiber, Shawn Mendez, Carly Rae Jepsen, Soulja Boy, and Bo Burnham are all fairly mainstream successful and owe most of that to their popularity on youtube.

And then you have the Paul brothers.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Youtubers are mainstream with people under 35."
Change that 35 to around 21 and you might be right.

    @Sharper Teeth.
Broad City started on YouTube too, and then it became a critically acclaimed Comedy Central show. The thing is, the genuinely talented ones like Bo Burnham move on and do things elsewhere, and then you don't think of them as "YouTubers".
The people who shout and overact at video games, or stage sub-Jackass "pranks", or narcissistically chronicle their lives, those people will always be "YouTubers".

    ReplyDelete
  29. But hey, it's not like they care that they'll never do anything truly worthwhile, or be popular in non-YouTube media. They manage to make millions despite a lack of any real talent, wit or charisma.

  34. As strange as it sounds...some of these YouTube stars are selling out stages with touring shows, making money off books and signings as well as YouTube Red being a thing...I'd say that even if you don't...I wouldn't quite discount them from being successful. While they might not be the stars my generation thinks of, they are definitely, for better or worse...stars in their own right. The times...they are a changin'. As are the platforms for what constitutes as a celebrity. A few that come to mind... Dan and Phil (yes, my daughter dragged me to a sold out theater where her poor dad was surrounded by little kids in flower crowns and cat whiskers screaming in glee), Miranda Sings, Shane Dawson....

  35. gauloise:

It has always been hard for even popular print publications to stay afloat (SPY mag!). It's nothing new to note that. Two points: 1) That prestige publications have managed to stay up goes to prove my point, not against it. 2) "dying media" doesn't only refer to print, it's just my example. The phrase was used about the tv networks, seeing movies theatrically, etc. Betamax was supposed to be the death of movies, so was the DVD. Now we're on streaming and we're still obsessed with movies and the people who make them.

Progress does make some things obsolete. But it isn't always progress alone, which the "dying media" predictions seem predicated upon. Vulture capitalists are killing a lot of alt.weeklies, for example.

  41. I think it's Faze Banks, too.

Also, I'm a grandmother & even I know YouTube is where the action is happening.
Chicago Tribune, NYT, WashPost, etc. have cut their newsrooms 3-5Xs in the last couple of yrs,
Newsweek is in the trash heap, even newer media companies like Vice are not making their projected targets, and forget The Atlantic and Salon making money, lol. They live on borrowed time from rich benefactors who pull the bacon out of the fire at the last minute.
Why do you think a media conglomerate as huge as CNN would go after farking Alex Jones or Wall Street Journal, (parent corp. News Corp), would go after PewDiePie?
    Viewers, ratings, eyes.
They aren't getting them, the YouTubers are. It's that simple.
