Blind Item #6

I'm not sure why you have to lie about why someone is having surgery, but this old celebrity on the other side of the pond has bladder cancer and not whatever other ailment people are spinning.

July 17 1917. German royalty descended from Prince Albert decide to pretend they are exclusively British, adopted the house of Windsor title and discarded the German titles.
Their cousins still in Germany and Russia don’t fare as well.

  4. He's 128 - I'm surprised he's only got bladder cancer.

  5. Good God, he is over 90...just bow out peacefully

  6. I wondered why he’d have hip surgery at his age. Usually, they don’t wan to do that in someone so old. Explains a lot.

    1. Not true. My 90 year old great uncle 93 year old grandma had hip surgery. But They only do it if it's due to a fall or bad enough to the point the person is always in pain or can't move around.

  7. why are they lying about it though? what is the point?

    2. The UK is in enough of a huge mess at the moment without the media whipping this one up too. When all members of the royal staff got recalled to the palace one morning a few months ago there was general panic that it was a death announcement and yet it turned out to be “he’s stepping down from public duties”. More than likely it was this news being revealed

  8. Ain't no surgeon gonna perform hip surgery on a 96 year old man. Who are they fooling?

    3. My 96 yr old grandma who is not royalty just had hip surgery. Minimally invasive

    4. @Pattyyy - does your Grandma have poor health like Prince Philip?

  9. Probably because they don't want nonstop tabloid and regular coverage about him having cancer. I like the British, but they are seriously obsessive when it comes to royalty.

  10. and there is the wedding ......

  11. Is cancer seen as common to the royals? I like Liz, but the rest of them I couldn't care less about on a molecular level.

  12. The Queen Mother had hip surgery in her 90s IIRC. Phillip has said before he didn't want to live to 100, so I'm surprised he'd get surgery; but I suppose he'd do it for the Queen.

  13. It's like how other older celebrities go into seclusion and then one day boom we hear that they died of natural causes surrounded by family and friends. Royals don't get the seclusion option so they resort to deception.

  14. Although Prince Albert was German, German nobility (the House of Hanover) were the rulers of England going back to George I in 1714. Albert's name - Saxe-Coburg -- was just to German-sounding for the WWI era.

  15. Would we really be referring to Philip as a celebrity? I mean, I'd think enty would say "Royal". Maybe I'm wrong.

  16. Good point Erin. Might even say A+ recognition.

  17. Also only the elite have access to certain cures for cancer so they need to keep it on the down low when they get treatment.

    1. I hope this is sarcasm.
I’ve worked in cancer research for 30 years and this is absolutely not true.
Maybe the “elite” pay for hokey, BS therapies à la Steve Jobs, but legit therapies are available to everyone, just about anywhere in the world.

    2. Do you think they'd tell the average researcher this?

  18. It is all over the web that Prince Philip is having hip surgery. I have a friend who had bladder cancer- they say it can be caused by smoking. It is a cancer that doesn't spread as easily. My friend had a few surgeries over the years and is doing fine.

  19. @erin sometimes enty/his enterns switch up referring to celebs as certain things. the only person this could be is prince phillip b/c a). he's the only person who has been in the news recently for surgery and b). it says the person is from across the pond, which is usually a reference to the UK.

  20. Philip has repeatedly said that he and the Queen plan to hold on as long as possible to keep Charles off the throne. They feel he is unsuitable.

  21. IDK, my 90 year old grandpa just had hip replacement surgery, but he’s very healthy for 90 and came through wonderfully. He’s already back on the tractor and piddling around in his shop, welding and planting tomatoes for the summer. But yeah, I think this is about Prince Phillip.

    1. My 93 year old grandma did, as did my 90 year old great uncle. She died, but from doctor error after the fact. My great uncle is still going strong at 95. The hip surgery allowed him to walk again. He felt it was worth the risk to not be wheelchair bound.

  22. @Nutty, I always found that hilarious, like what does the British monarchy actually do now, what could Charles screw up? Wear the wrong hat, drink the wrong tea, give a bad wave, declare war on the colonies? ;)

  23. Hurray, British news that isn't about Meghan Markle! Get well soon, Prince Phillip!

  26. Love Prince Phillip...but am I the only one hoping he manages to overshadow Sparkles and her wedding? I can't stand her and Prince Harry has had his nose up in the air ever since he met her. I don't want Phil to die but sadly he's going to. Keith Richards, Betty White, and Willie Nelson won't die, but Phil and all the rest of us will. ;-D

  27. Hee hee at @Branson...they actually tried that back in 1812, didn't work out. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  28. Can't you imagine the headlines on the British tabloids if this were disclosed to be anything urinary? Philip famously collects toilet seats. I don't blame them for lying.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Probably having his mouth surgically closed so he doesn’t offend anyone ( I mean black people) when his grandson marries Megan, he has form, the daft old racist.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Branson, I think the general feeling within The Firm is that it is always hanging by a thread. Liz and Phil have seen plenty of exiled royals in their day. Charles has a big mouth and says stupid stuff. He could damage the brand very badly.

  31. Hell is waiting for Philip the pedo

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Prince Philip - currently in for hip surgery" -- you spelled "adrenochrome transfusion from the adrenalized blood of small terrorized children" wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @TW....the Queen mother had hip surgery at 95 and lived on for another 7 or 8years and that was decades ago, todays surgical techniques are way better. The real danger is from the anesthetic, Phil has no lung problems so it's less of a factor for him, besides that he probably said 'do the bloody thing, if I don't wake up it so what'.

Apart from that, the roumour several years ago was prostate cancer , not bladder cancer but he could have both I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Very sorry to hear this - I bought the hip surgery, but the earlier hospitalizations make this rumor more realistic.
