This former A list "singer" from back in the day is doing things right. She knows her ability to sell tickets is limited despite everyone knowing her. She is teaming up with as many casinos as possible who have agreed to buy 50% of all her seats. No matter what, it will look like she is filling up theatres.

DeleteIt's not Britney. Her run in Vegas was incredibly successful, whether the casinos gave out free tickets to gamblers or not. Her shows (and future shows) are the envy of JLo and Xtina because they thought Vegas was beneath them. When it makes a pile of money, as a performer, it's not beneath you.

ReplyDeleteBefore Britney did her show in Vegas it was considered the provenance of novelty performers like Debby Reynolds and Cher, Wayne Newton and Liberace. Britney (and Cirque de Soleil and Celine somewhat) changed all that. Performers like JLo probably had been offered limited engagements by casinos before but turned them down because it was considered graveyard work - it means you are done. Now they are waking up to the possibilities, after Britney, but will never make the money Britney has secured for herself in Vegas. Not only that but Britney is back out on the road, so not retiring to Vegas just yet but using Vegas to work on herself and her professional capabilities.

ReplyDeleteTotally agree... I was thinking the exact same thing. I don't even think Vegas when someone says Casino Tour, or playing Casino... I think everywhere else. Vegas, it just that, Vegas... But, Casinos is Jersey, Connecticut, and wherever else there is a small grp of Casinos. I'm right by CT, & there are two casinos that ALWAYS has concerts, some cool ones too. Xtena is heading there. I can't recall who else tho. But, isn't she a perm A list? Or even A+? And, girl can sing. I'm def keeping the peepers open for Casino concerts coming up. And, didn't Cher retire? Bc, Damn it, I paid a lot of freakn money to see her farewell tour.. I wouldn't pay to watch her burn now. Can't stand the bitch. Lol! But, I believe she retired, unless she's trying too hard to stay relevant, and has to come out of retirement. Or needs cash. Either way, lame.

ReplyDeleteI always had the feeling that when a singer/group was attached to a casino for any length of time, it was as if they were on the downhill slide of their career. Even back in the Rat Pack days, when the only place you could see Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin perform was Vegas, it still felt like they were phoning it in, thankful they were getting a pay check. And don't get me started on Elvis...
It's funny that of all the so called vocalists out there, there are very few who can actually hold a tune, belt something, breath control, interpretation...Very few actual singers. Aguilera is an actual singer. Cher is an actual singer. Dion is an actual singer. Marie Osmond is an actual singer. Taylor Dayne is magnificent. Basia is queen. Oleta Adams.
ReplyDeleteCarey, of course, was wonderful. I fear she's broken her voice forever, too much hard living. It's a shame to see her doing lip sync, but she does.
Gomez was never a singer. Lopez was never a singer. Being good looking does not automatically make you a vocalist. Gomez seems to have figured this out, and moved on to other things.
