Blind Item #7

This former A+ list athlete turned mostly professional bust started off a new career as a bust. Then, someone gave him a little something and now he is a big success and the fix is in when it comes to his success. The powers that be want him to succeed so turn their head to what they know is the secret.

  1. Adderall is the baseball player's best friend, everyone can have ADHD.

  2. Do we care about roid usage? If we do, leagues shouldn’t monitor it themselves. If we don’t, who cares. Let them have at it.

  3. Do we care about Tim Tebow? At all?

  4. HGH improves eyesight significantly. They all do it. Very hard to detect.

  5. You'd be surprised at how many people care about Tim Tebows success. Most of us don't obviously. And I think you can easily figure out why they care too.

  6. Y'all stop spreading lies about my boy! Lies!!

  7. Tebow still isn't a good baseball player, regardless of any 'help.' He has decent number at AA -- for a 19-year-old, but he's like 30, which means he won't be getting any better. If he gets called up this year, it'll be because the Mets suck and he'd be one thing that would sell a few more tickets as they grind away the late summer, not because anyone in baseball thinks he's ever going to be a major league player.

But yes, it's pretty easy to see why people both love and hate Tebow. Weird, though, because most athletes are Christian, so it's not clear how he got singled out for it.

  8. Cail the Mets are probably going to bring him up late in the season to keep people interested and coming to the park. Only for his name value, not talent value.

  9. I love Tebow, too. I hope this is not him.

  10. HA HA 95 strikeouts in 234 At-bats projects out to over 200 strikeouts over a full season--in AA Ball at 30 yrs old makes you NO PROSPECT...

  11. For most teams baseball is a circus with a bar, occasionally they have to toss a few freaks in the ring to keep fans coming back, heaven forbid they actually try winning.

  12. +1 Sandy. The Mets signed Bautista after his career was almost certainly over, and I don't doubt they will do the same with Tebow.

  13. Great baseball chat here. @Cail: spot on analysis. Too bad about the Mets--they started off the season with such promise. @s.s. Agreed. 30 years old it too old to still be banging around in the minors, and AA at that. Those K numbers would put him on par with the rise of the "three true outcomes" batting style currently in vogue in the bigs, if he has a lot of pop it would put him on par with the Joey Gallos and Krush Davises of the world.

  15. The Mets need a new GM now and bringing up Tebow will create a lot of publicity for the team. New York press will be all over this and all of sports radio will be talking about this. Somewhere Bobby Bonilla is laughing at this spectacle.

  16. I don't follow sports but I did see a story a week or so ago about how well Tim Tebow is suddenly doing. It made me suspicious and sad, because it meant he was probably doing steroids and either people were looking the other way because he's "good for the game," or he was going to get caught and that would be very bad for baseball and Christians.

The longer Tim Tebow hangs around and keeps getting so much attention, the more I think he's some kind of construct. I don't understand why the media gloms on to him so much otherwise. He's handsome, but not THAT handsome. He claims to be a virgin (still?), but at 30 and with that level of media clout he's got to be lying. He did that "Take a knee" prayer thing, but that was years and years ago. It's all very strange.

  17. Give me a break. Having known Tim for years, since he played ball with my son in high school, he is not fake. AT all. sorry to burst the bubble of ppl that think someone can not be true and good.
BTW.. the MAJORITY of professional baseball players making millions strike out more than they hit. My favorite player from my favorite team is pretty famous right now for the AMOUNT of his strikeouts, but considering his power and the home runs he hits, he is great.
Take a look at Bret Gardner, another all time fave, he is rock steady most of the time, but when he slumps, man does he slump, but he is almost always reliable.
That is the sport, the point of the opposing team is to find the hitters weakness, Such as with Judge, who lacks the ability to hit great with sliders. One if his problems is he is just SO dang big, that his strike zone is different, but yet for the most part, the umps still call them strikes as if they were pitched to a normal size dude.

  18. I hate to break this to you, but UFs favorite Christian soldier Tim Tebow was roommatted at UF by Urban Mayer with Aaron Hernandez. Everybody at the time of thought it was because our favorite Christian soldier would be a good role model for Aaron. Nope. It's because they were both gay, so sorry.

  19. I knew Tebow when he was in the NFL - met him when he came out to Denver to try out for the Broncos and kept in touch for several years. It’s well known around town that he’s not a virgin - not by a long shot. That’s just part of the image that was concocted by his family and handlers back in his college days. I’d imagine at this point, it’s easier to keep up with the ruse than admit it’s always been just that.

He was insanely charming in public but could be a total douche behind the scenes.

  20. The Mets are run by a (nominally) Jewish triumvirate and have shown virtually no religious bent of any kind over the years, largely eschewing the nightly ode to the MIC of God Bless America done in many other ballparks. They are cheap bastards- who are quite leery of being seen as cheap bastards- who love to think they are getting a bargain. It is a classic case of penny wise/pound foolish, that caused them to lose out on Alex Rodriguez (2000 offseason) and Vladimir Guerrero (2003 offseason) while making massive mistakes with Mo Vaughn and Jason Bay, and getting burned with Johan Santana and David Wright (not to mention Madoff).

They signed Tebow because he was no risk with the potential for a small-time reward. They trot him out the countryside- they won't promote him to AAA until they move next year from Las Vegas to Syracuse- and might possibly call him up to the big club in September as a dog and pony show. I doubt there is tangible benefit, but it does draw some interest.

MLB gives Adderall exemptions about as easily as your typical doctor gives out a prescription. If Tebow is also on GH now (maybe), he was certainly on it since at least his NFL days.
