Blind Item #9

This permanent A list mostly movie actress who tried to get another Oscar a couple years ago is making another push this year. She has a movie that is being released at the end of the year and is sinking $1M of her own money just to advertise herself and is being matched by the production company and distributor. She will do whatever it takes this time to get another Oscar.

  10. Why is Streep so desperately wanting another Oscar?

  11. come on. not meryl. she can get another one without trying.

i vote for julia. sounds just like her.

  12. I don’t think Jolie or Lawrence have a film coming out this year. Streep is pretty much guaranteed a supporting nomination if Mary Poppins is any good, and it’s Disney so I can’t see her feeling like she has to spend her own money. Disney’s already planning a huge awards campaign for Poppins.

Anne Hathaway has Serenity, Cate Blanchett has Where’d You Go Bernadette, Penelope Cruz has Everybody Knows, Hilary Swank has What They Had, Nicole Kidman has Boy Erased and Destroyer and Emma Stone has The Favourite.

There’s also Charlize Theron with Tully, but that’s already been released.

  13. This is Julia Roberts. She was deseprate for a nom a couple of years ago for "The secret in their eyes" but the movie flopped and no one bothered with a campaign.

  14. Julia Roberts sounds right. The original "Secret in Their Eyes" is a phenomenal film. The remake is a Hollywood vanity production ruined by Roberts ego.

  15. Haven't there been other blinds on here about Streep's obsession with winning another Oscar? I'm curious whether or not she can wriggle free of the Weinstein shadow.

  16. So many potential desperate ones.

  17. I read this as Natalie Portman at first, but Vox Lux doesn't really fit.

  18. Sounds like Sandra Bullock with Galaxy or Angelina. It's probably both - but this blindvice is for one of them. Portman tried last year with Jackie. Streep tries every year.

  23. Renee Zellweger with the Judy Garland thing.
Her "attenpt" might have been the "Same Kind of Different as Me" which technically was filmed I think 3 years ago but kept getting pushed back.

  24. Michelle Pfeiffer for I don’t know what
She tried to get one for The Family

Whoever it is, I hope they realize how utterly empty and shallow the goal truly is.

  28. I just read yesterday Julia Roberts started an instagram account. That sounds like someone getting ready to promote herself.

    1. Yeah, then it is probably Julia. I guess we can wait another year or so on that divorce then.

  29. Amy Adams is too grounded and sensible to sink $1 mil of her money into something so vain.
Her work stands on its own merits, and always will.

The last time I saw Meryl Streep in a movie, The Post, she was very good; however, I said to myself, "Hortensia, that is Meryl acting again. I see she played clumsy, and almost knocked the chair over in the restaurant. That's really good acting."

    ReplyDelete
  30. Meryl DID get another Oscar a few years ago. After 3, I doubt she's that desperate for a fourth.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Meryl indicates all over the place - Look! I'm acting! - but I still like her in many things. She will win another Oscar sometime, count in it. Why would she put her own money into some campaign when it's nearly guaranteed she is going to be awarded her Grand Dame Oscar at some point?

This has to be Julia Roberts. Her career is sinking like a stone and she's such a bitch no one wants to vote for her unless encouraged.

  32. Oh, what about Reese Witherspoon? She'd pay for publicity but it looks like she's into producing now and not much Oscar fare on the horizon.
