Blind Item #6 - Reader Blind Item

This athlete reached the top of his sport several decades ago.  He was in the top five in his sport a number of other years.  Since his retirement, he is still involved in his sport in different roles.  He is gay and deeply closeted although there have always been rumors.  His family is from a conservative area and he does not want to hurt them as they were very supportive and helpful to his career when he was growing up.  Awhile back, he was stopped by a cop while cruising a public restroom in this very large city where a prestigious event in his sport occurs annually.  He quickly entered a sham marriage in case this story went public which it didn’t.  Trouble is last month he was caught again and this time there was written documentation from the police officer in the form of a citation.  What will the retired athlete do this time?

  1. Andy Roddick or Pete Sampras.

  2. Heard these rumors about Troy Aikman for years.

  3. Andre Agassi

City could be NYC, where US Open is held. US Open is coming up so that makes me think it is tennis.

Sham marriage would be Brooke Shields. Perhaps his current marriage to Steffi Graff is a "lavender marriage".

    3. He’s from Begas though... I do t see that as being conservative in any way, though there’s a Mormon population, his family isn’t.
I got a football vibe with the event being that parade every year-the Rose Bowl is it?
      Pink indeed lol

    4. Agassi is half Iranian.

  4. Could be football. The Rose Bowl is in Pasadena. All bowl games (that are in a specific city) are college football, although he could have been there for other reasons than playing.
Aikman specifically had had rumors for years.
But the wording to me seemed like a solo, not team sport.

Who knows. Enty can be vague on purpose.

  6. Guti (Spanish futbol player).

  7. Didn't Agassi write a memoir saying what a tyrant his father was? I don't think he saw him as supportive and has already hurt him publicly.

  8. This screams Troy Aikman, who lives in North Texas, a conservative area. He got married again not long ago.

  9. And that coach who kept them at his home. Interesting doc on showtime about the coach. He seems good though!

  10. Aikman wasn't the the top "several" decades ago. More like two.

  11. ATroy Aikman
There has been rumors about him for decades..

  12. There was one reporter\radio host in Dallas named Skip Bayless, who acts as a complete idiot on Fox Sports now, who was run out of Dallas because he said Aikman was gay.

    1. Or the fact that Bayless is just an ass.

  13. While Aikman played for the Cowboys, the NFL does not have a major event hosted in the same city year after year. It is also harder to quantify the top player or even the top 5 players.

I believe this blind is about a tennis player or golfer. Those sports have individual rankings (hence top and top 5) and the events are hosted in the same cities year after year.

  14. The other guess would be a boxer such as Oscar De La Hoya

  15. Don't they have apps for seedy hook ups with randoms now? Why cruise when you can download Grindr?

  16. Hall of fame induction ceremony every year is in Canton. There is usually a Cowboy inducted or he would be there as a broadcaster. Hate skip Bayless but he was right about Troy.

  17. I like the Courier guess, No 1 in 1992, 2 and a half decades ago, top 5 for a few years before and after being number 1, lots of rumours, married in 2010 and works commentating on tennis.

  18. I don't think Tiger Woods is married but I could be wrong.

When I take the blind at face value it cannot be Aikman unless the yearly event is referring to a college bowl. Cannot be Agassi unless his family is not Muslim or they are not hard-core conservative Christians.

Man, I wish this was Tom Brady.

  19. I don't know much about NFL but I looked up Troy Aikman and see he won the MVP of a Super Bowl game and won some other Super Bowl games with his team and was voted into the football hall of fame, which for me would be reaching the top of his sport.

  20. "Several decades ago." Several is at least three, usually more, so at least prior to 1988. Aikman wasn't a star until the mid-1990s. He may fit the rest, but he's too recent.

  21. He was also married for 11 years, with two daughters...not sure how “sham” that is.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think if this was written by someone younger than 30, Aikman would be ancient and they'd think it's been decades. I think Aikman is gay for sure

  23. Hey, there are plenty of closeted athletes. The question is, which one is *this* one? Maybe we'll find out, if his arrest is leaked.

  24. Several decades and he married recently. People are way off.

  25. Good guess. Khan's cricket career ran from 82-92, married several times most recently 2014-2015 and then just this year. He is now the Prime Minister of Pakistan @65yo and even more handsome now. Interesting guy.

  27. Maybe stop using public restrooms for hooking up then.

think, baseball. think, blue eyes. divorced his long time wife for "reasons unknown".

  30. There is no annual NFL event held in the same very large city every year, so that doesn't seem to fit Aikman.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Aikman sure fits. And as far as an annual event... The Cotton Bowl (although not pro but definitely Football) is held in Dallas, Tx every year.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mercyprosperity: Cal didn’t rush into marriage. And wasn’t from a conservative area. No baseball event happens in the same cit annually, does it?

    ReplyDelete
  33. NFL Hall of Fame induction is annual and always in Canton, Ohio.
Also, you don't get arrested when you get a ticket, he was stopped and ticketed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The NFL has the Football Hall of Fame every year in Canton Ohio. Induction ceremony is always in August and most of the former players are there for 2 week celebration.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Could be someone from Dallas, the event being the thanksgiving day game. Don't think it's Aikman but someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If you live in Vegas, you know how conservative it is. It has a mormon population just like Utah has a mormon population. In other words, it's a Mormon town people. The cops, judges, lawyers etc.. Just read the Sun and look in the local section and see for yourself.
