Today's Blind Items - The Ace Room

Around town it is known by several names, but most commonly it is referred to as The Ace Room after the character Ace in the movie Casino. The Ace Room is actually the guest house of this professional basketball player. He has a long history of this. Back in college, he was known to be the guy you went to if you wanted a bookie. He would take bets on just about anything and made a killing. No one has ever said he wouldn't take bets on his own games, so one does wonder.

Currently he doesn't take bets on sports. He says his bankroll isn't big enough to handle the bets his other pro basketball teammates would want to make. Our player is not by any means the leader on his team, but he is not a scrub either. He is in the rotation and gets in every game. If you want to get into this place, you either need to be a professional athlete he knows or a celebrity he knows. Oh, or a woman who wants to get to know the athletes and celebrities. No one else is getting in. There are no agents or managers. There is no one other than the women that get into that guest house that are not known to just about every other person who attends.

The Ace Room is a casino. There are slots and electronic games. There are no tables and no dealers. If a player wants to play poker or run a game themselves, they are more than welcome, but it is mostly pumping money into machines. A lot of money. Every night The Ace Room is open, our player makes about $50K in profit. The room is open every night there is a home game and usually the night before if he is in the city. Throughout the rest of the year it is open on weekends and this past weekend saw some of the biggest names ever to attend.

This married permanent A++ list athlete was there front and center with a woman who is not his wife.
This A+ list mostly movie actor was there. He is technically still married, but there is no reconciliation.
Apparently there was a little scuffle because this A list mostly television actor from a very long running hit network show was doing lines of coke with his girlfriend. No drugs are allowed at all. Yes, including pot. If you want to light it up, you have to do it outside. No coke or hard drugs though because a bust would possibly ruin the career of the players. So, the actor was told to leave or dump it out. He dumped it out.

This A/A- list mostly television actor who is an Emmy winner/nominee and stars on a very hit ABC show was there and spending big.

This A+/A list mostly movie actor who is an Academy Award winner/nominee and married was there and was with another woman as well as his former actor co-star of his from back in the day who is also an Academy Award winner/nominee. It kind of makes sense they were there together.

  6. Zach Randolph the player\owner?

  7. Switching the owner to JJ Redick because he was smart enough to go to Duke.

    1. JJ is a good guess! Didnt think about him.

  8. Leo and Tobey for the last pair.

It makes sense it is Jordan - he is said to have huge gambling issues. The other possiblity is Allen Iverson, who has been banned from a number of NJ casinos because of the 100s of thousand in debt he's racked up. And Iverson is married.

  9. Ed Norton and Matt Damon for the costars?? Both were in Rounders.
Anthony Anderson for the actor on ABC show??

  12. These people need to be labeled with a letter for the sake of clarity.

  13. Brady/Affleck. But I thought the invitation only casino was based at Affleck's Georgia place, which he's selling to fund the divorce.

  14. My guess is the guest house is in Cali if that many celebs are pouring in. The way you worded the blind makes me think the owner plays for a team close to where the house is at so either the Lakers, Clippers, Warriors or the Kings. If the player is still active. I've narrowed it down to Deandre Jordan , Kentavious Caldwell Pope, and Andre Igoudala. If we count retired I'm adding Matt Barnes to the list. They're all players that have not made as much money as a top tier player in the NBA. They play rotation minutes but they're not one of the teams star players. They've been in the Cali area for at least a year. I'm leaning towards it being Andre Igoudala.

    1. I was thinking Cali, too. And definitely an active player...

  15. Gambling is such a bore.

As someone cleverly said, it sets up a tax on stupidity.

  16. Being rich and a celebrity must be fun as hell.

  17. JJ Redick is at Training Camp and was not in LA this weekend
Iguodala is in Oakland for training camp

My guess is Rajon Rondo, he lives in LA in the off season and now plays for the Lakers. He has a rep for being off the charts smart and being into thinking games/game theory. He also played two years at Kentucky which seems long enough to get a rep as a guy who knows people and how to do things around UK

    A++ = Jordan
A+ married, no reconciliation = Pitt
A list long running and not married = Galecki?
A List ABC actor = Anthony Anderson?
A list co-stars = Norton and Damon playing poker of course

  18. Unlikely Brady was there. He was too busy being in Detroit getting his ass kicked on national television by the Detroit Lions.

  19. So a bunch of rich people socialize and play slot machines? How fuckin' boring would that be? At least with cards you have to engage your brain somewhat. But just to sit there and press buttons? Gawd, poke my eyes out!

  20. @Mischief Girl, I'm with you. You've got an illegal gambling hall full of rich celebrities and athletes, and you don't bring in a single dealer so you can feel like James Bond playing high stakes poker or baccarat against each other? Everyone just sits and presses buttons on machines like the drunks down at the corner bar?

How depressing. Rich people have no imagination.

  21. +1 Mischief & Cail

Slots and electronic games? Snore, sounds like elderly paradise. Guess if they ain't beatin', cheatin' or rapin' they've done run out of ideas.
Sheeit, partying folks in the country will have four wheelers, giant jenga blocks, shooting, fireworks, bonfires, all kinds of crazy sh!t.

  22. Poker brings in the real money and the high end betting as well as people bragging or complaining outside the house to their friends. Maybe the owner of the house wants to avoid that.

If Mr. Ace Room was a bookie and could memorize odds and bets, he's not going to give that up for the quarters in slot machines. Maybe his sports bets are now limited to a highly select clientele.

Slot machines cost a LOT more than a quarter these days!

I had to laugh at your comment. I live in the country, and you got it exactly right. Party down at the lake, make a fire, and HAVE SOME FUN! What a great way to spend an evening with friends. Last one we had at our house, neighbors even brought their pet goats.

  24. Well Randall Emmett posted an instagram photo with Matt Damon at a poker tournament the other night. So, Ben Afflect and Matt Damon are definitely in there?

  25. i think it's pitt, leo, and maybe some other people from the once upon a time film which is why it makes sense for them to all be together. also mj for the a++ OR oberon since he's an LA guy now.

  26. If you remember the poker game from the beginning of the Clooney/Pitt Oceans 11 you know that something like this is not new in LaLa land. I wonder if that floating game for high rollers still takes place.

I think Zach Randolph is the man running the room.
I also think LeBron was the man there w/o his wife.
Ben Affleck for the technically still married man? My original guess was Brad Pitt
Anthony Anderson for the man spending money like a drunken sailor.
I'll go with Moose's guess as to who the last duo is.

I have no idea who the tv actor is who got into a spat with the man running the place.

  27. MJ lives in Charlotte.
My thought is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Smart enough to be street wise and good at making contacts while not being in the lime light.

  28. Possibly Nick Young or Klay Thompson for owner. Eric Stonestreet for ABC guy. He has season tickets to LA Kings. Although, it could be Ed O’Neill.

Thanks for the heads up! The last time I was at a casino, it was a Trump casino, a junky pink palace of excess and I was far more interested in giggling at the decor and faux opulence than the slots. To give a time to this, there was a smoking section. So it must have been a long assed time ago.

  30. Honestly, what's the scandal? No drugs, even weed, allowed, and a private party.

Even if raided, i doubt any prosecutor would push it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well whoever the basketball player is, it sounds like they are currently still playing. So that leaves Kobe & Jordan out. Unless Enty didn't put (former) in to throw us off.
