This A- list comic actress is making a huge deal about a recent event where she spent time with law enforcement. The thing is though, the actress is ignoring the fact the whole thing from booking to release took five minutes and she was the one who insisted on being arrested in the first place. The police asked her multiple times if she was sure she wanted to be arrested. It was the opposite of anything stressful, so don't let her tell you otherwise.

If anyone here had been to a protest (obviously not) then yes, people ask to be arrested. It's a surprisingly good way to stop mass indiscriminate arrests, especially with phones all around.

As someone who actually has been arrested, it's definitely NOT something to brag about and normal people don't have the privilege of getting arrested willy nilly, cause like, we have to pass background checks to even get a minimum wage job. Whatever Amy, you wanna be a badass? You'll have to show me more.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is that, when you're famous, you won't be arrested during a protest because the cops recognize you and serve you preferential treatment. People around you may be hit and arrested, but the cops get briefed about you being at the protest, and will do their best to prevent bad publicity.
ReplyDeleteI once interviewed some celebrity famous for her stand against the Vietnam war. Not Jane Fonda levels of hatred from the conservatives, but you're getting there. I asked her if she felt being a target during these days, and her answer took me by surprise. Basically, she was well aware of how lucky she was because she was famous. Police officers would deliberately ignore her but would beat other people, because they had heard she was here in the crowd. She ended up being arrested once, but it was because she was wearing a hat and a coat, as she didn't want any favor compared to the other guys.
So, it's a given that Amy Schumer, especially as she's the niece of a Senator, is treated with kid gloves by the police at Washington. She won't dispute that or complain about police brutality on her. Of course, there are theatrics involved. She was technically arrested then released, because it couldn't go any other way with her.
But guess what? Theatrics are a device used by many activists, regardless of the political side. Like when we have people here who react vocally just at one joke, when one of their champions is the butt of it.
