I think this is the right answer, but being Italian / american, the guys, esp of that generation (think sinatra), kept the wives as saints and got the other stuff outside the home, so I find it hard to believe, culturally.

I was under the impression that Joe DiMaggio's problem was jealousy, so bad that he was interfering with Marilyn's career with his suspicions about cast mates and staff. i don't believe this, same as most things i read here anymore. he was very possessive and jealous. he didn't really understand her stardom and he didn't like it. they were just a complete mismatch. but they stayed friends until she died and he never got over her---i don't believe she ever did what this blind says.
