Today's Blind Items - Kidnapped

Earlier this month, I had a chance to sit down with a retired road manager to a permanent foreign based A++ list group which seemingly will never end touring despite what have seemed like endless proclamations that this one will be the last and then next one is the last. Whatever. If you can sell out stadiums, then keep on keeping on. We talked a lot and I got many many blinds to last for years, but one that I was most interested in asking him, he did confirm. I had always heard rumors, but I wondered hat happened after. So, there were two women who were best friends who came to a show by this group. They were already one of the biggest groups on the planet. This is many decades ago. The two women told the band they had each just dumped their boyfriends to go on this trip to see the band who were playing in a European country. The two women were from a differing European country. Anyway, the women hooked up with a couple different band members and the next morning they set out to do some sightseeing before they went back to their country and their lives and jobs. The thing is though, the band members wanted them to stay and wouldn't let them leave. The first day it was kind of funny and the women agreed. By the second day it had grown troublesome and then finally at day four or five, they were basically forced to stay and had someone watching them 24/7. They were kept away from phones which would have been the only way to communicate. They had their passports taken. They basically became forced sex slaves for this band and whoever the band decided the women should sleep with. This went on for almost two months. When the band finished their European tour they were headed home for a break before heading out on the next leg. What to do with the two women? Apparently one of the road managers was made responsible for them and he took them to his house where he kept them for about three days. One night when he was trying to have a threesome with them, they ganged up on him and got away. Naked. When I asked this (different) road manager about the aftermath he said the band fired the road manager which is how he got hired but that no one ever heard from the two women. No police came. No one knows what happened to them. Not one peep ever. I said that I found that kind of odd. He agreed and he thinks the band fired him not for letting them go, but maybe that he disposed of them in a permanent way and that the threesome and escaping story is just a story.

  1. The group who is always on their last tour seems to be The Who which has had about 15 of them.

  2. +1 they announced Chicago and NYC shows today I think

  3. Not to make light of what happens in this blind - but I feel like Enty really missed an opportunity to title this one "Naked & Afraid"

  4. KISS is right up there with farewell tours too, which is why Im skeptical of the one next, but thats off topic for this blind in they arent foreign based.

  5. Rollingstones, on tour Again.

  6. I find this one hard to believe. Groupies were everywhere, why would they kidnap girls when there were others willing to do it, and new ones each time.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Pete Townshend likes them really young....purely for "research" purposes of course.

I get more of a stones vibe than the Who from this anyway.

  8. The one sentence Naked. is old school Enty.

  9. the Who doesn't sell out stadiums any more either. Gotta be the Stones.

  10. Wonder if this began at the Exile on Mainstreet compound in the south of France?

    ReplyDelete
  11. So the band's plan was to keep the women trapped in a house until it was time to go on tour again and keep using them as sex slaves?

    ReplyDelete
  12. The Who & Kiss have officially announced “farewell” tours. The Stones are geezers, but I don’t think have ever said any of their tours would be their last.

    Stones?

  14. There a bunch of articles today in Rolling Stone and NME with Keith Richards hinting this will be the farewell tour

  15. The Who or Kiss. The Stones have never said they were retiring.

  21. Rolling Stones, for sure...

  22. The Rolling Stones, Sam Cutler was the manager.

  23. If it's the Stones, then the multiple farewell tour announcements must be a red herring because they have not had a habit of doing that.

  24. @DoTell,Rob Halford is gay,so what would he want with female sex slaves?

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Guesser, "the women hooked up with a couple different band members". Not everyone in Judas Priest is gay. Doesn't specify the singer.

  28. There is only one decades old foreign-born (or otherwise) A++ group that never stops touring and still sells out stadiums. Show some sympathy for the devils. I'm sure they would have preferred the girls be kept alive but you can't always get what you want.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I know Rob Halford is gay. It doesn't say the singer is involved.

Anyway, tickets for the Stones at MetLife stadium go on sale tomorrow. I hope I can afford to go.

  30. oh it's the stones.

  32. The Rolling Stones would make little sense, given that the five actual members were never a tight unit for this kind of things. Jagger didn't need to have sex with groupies, as he could get almost any celebrity, Keith Richards was mostly monogamous, Charlie Watts has been married to the same woman since 1964, Bill Wyman and Brian Jones would get their hands on as many girls as possible in the sixties, but they didn't have much authority over the main decisions and acted on their own without support from the roadies. Later, Mick Taylor was quite shy and introverted while Ronnie Wood is tolerated because he never claimed to be the main talent in the band. Their crew may have misbehaved, but a story about them killing two girls who wouldn't stay with them while they could get a load of new groupies almost every night seems ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Angela-- I mean no disrespect, but sex crimes are rarely about attraction. They're about power and control.

It wouldn't matter if the members of the Stones could get any girl they wanted-- that's not what the motivations behind sex crimes are...

  34. I hate to think it's the Stones, but the list of foreign based, Permanent A++ groups has to be pretty small right?
    Beatles
    Stones
Led Zepplin (this is my guess, though it doesn't totally match the blind)
    The Who (maybe)
    Pink Floyd (maybe)
...who else is even in the mix?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Def Leppard?

Stop laughing. Unfortunately, they were the first band I thought of...

  36. I immediately thought AC/DC. Fits all the descriptions even though they obviously have used multiple lead singers

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Who is always on a farewell tour. My brother saw their first farewell tour in the early 80s. I saw farewell tour number ?? in 1989, I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Love the AC/DC guess. I do think Kiss would do this also but they're not foreign born.

  39. @C.Ricci.

The old MTV movie 'The Def Leppard Story' is one of the most unintentionally hilarious crap movies you will ever see. Especially if you're British.

Sheffield - or anywhere else here, for that matter - does not have Greyhound buses. But if they did then they'd probably drive on the left hand side of the road. Otherwise it might get a bit messy. This is only into the opening ten seconds of the movie.

Mid 70s South Yorkshire looks astonishingly like early 90s LA.

The M1 motorway, last time I looked, wasn't a two lane country road.

Sheffield isn't only 27 miles from London like that roadsign said (nor 6 from Manchester - which is in an entirely different direction away anyway).

And the supposedly harrowing scene of the car crash where drummer Rick Allen lost his arm (complete with Monty Python and the Holy Grail standard injury SFX) is completely ruined by - among many other things - by an actor uttering this line while hurdling a large hedge, Edwin Moses-like, to get to the crashed car...

" I'm an off duty police officer and may be of some assistance..."

I could go on and on and will.

The accents, Oh Lord, the goddamn fucking accents.
Alright, granted that the Sheffield/South Yorkshire accent can be a little archaic and impenetrable - in some places in the area they still use 'thee' and 'thou' in common speech. But Sean Bean is a proud son of Sheffield ("100% Blade") & you all understand him. So it's beyond the wit to try to make it generically 'Northern' like they do for the "good guys" on Game of Thrones.

But no, while there's obviously a few Brit actors in the damn thing, it's also obvious that none of them have been farther north than Harrow....and that's probably where they went to school. Posh stage school brats to a fucking tee. So they stick with a Home Counties 'mockney' accent that usually stands in for London in movies and TV. The Sheffield and London accents differ as much from each other as they do a Boston or Texan accent.

Everyone else just makes it up as they go along. The range all over the globe, South Africa, Jamaica, Dublin, Moscow...and that's in one sentence from one (white) actor.
Everywhere, that is, except from anywhere near or in the wonderful county of Yorkshire.
Imagine The Departed where Jack Nicholson and Leo DCap had Mexican or Canadian accents the whole movie. Or The Unforgiven where they all spoke like Borat.
    That sort of disparity.

Anyway I've ranted on enough about this wonderful piece of shit, just try to watch it somehow, you won't be disappointed. Trust me, it funny as fuck.

There really is so much more wrong with it, I've only just scratched the surface

And Brian Johnson is 71 and suffering from serious health issues that prevented him from touring.

  44. @Do Tell, I attended a Rolling Stones "last chance tour" in the 80's.For a few years, they didn't go on tur after that round of concerts.
You're right though as they have never branded any tour as a farewell.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Katy.

Because you used to love them?

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Who were good to their groupies, flew them out, and flew them home after the tour. My friend was one of them, did a German tour, she came home smiling with lots of souvenirs of a wonderful time. At no time were they ever nasty.

  47. It should be stated that a famous and hugely popular band who dabbled in human slavery are not going to wearing those credentials on their sleeves. Probably seem like the nicest and coolest guys normally.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm going to throw Fleetwood Mac into the mix, just because Enty says "rumours".

    ReplyDelete
  49. sounds like stockholm syndrome

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Angela

I agree with you. The Stones are surprisingly not very close as a band and not that homogenous in their sexual or private lives. They never had the One For All, All For One attitude of other bands. I really doubt that Charlie Watts or Mick Taylor or even Keith Richards would have stomached keeping two girls imprisoned for the sexual needs of the others. Wouldn't have happened, sorry.

The Stones can barely put up each other and it's been that way for a long long time. Part of their continued success is that they are strictly professional with one another and then go home to completely separate lives.

    ReplyDelete

Ozzy just announced another tour but who knows if that's with Black Sabbath. However, Judas Priest is touring with him.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Bob, the problem with Fleetwood Mac is that while I think Mick Fleetwood is a Brit, and I think the band (when it was a blues outfit of just guys) started there, you wouldn't really describe the band as "foreign based."

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't know, @AppleThief4Elliot, John and Christine McVie are also British so that's the three main members all from London. And where is any band 'based' these days anyway? Nowadays that's a bit of a redundancy, everything's worked out online all the have to do is turn up for rehearsals, recordings and tours, whether they live in Vancouver or Vanuatu.

The ever changing line up of the early band and the infamous drama, if not outright lunacy, accompanying it - and that's even before Stevie Nick's and Lindsay Buckingham joining and the personal 'Rumours' clusterfluck - I can see this being this band.

Put it this way, if you're lead singer was effectively kidnapped by a sex cult and not seen for decades, and your brilliant lead guitarist goes full Syd Barrett, then the sex slavery isn't that much of a stretch.

And also take into account the increasing number of blinds hint at the notorious dickheadery of Lindsay Buckingham -an almost certain one just yesterday - and I would rule Fleetwood Mac out of the running just yet.

I still suspect the Stones, but Fleetwood Mac is my 'fallback school'.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Would 'NOT' rule out Lindsay Buckingham.

Oh, look, another urban myth being posted as something that actually happened, lol.

Enty, you may have the goods on actors and "reality" people, but you post the most old, moldy rock myths and urban legends all the time. Whoever your contact is for this stuff needs to lay off the recreational substances.

For the record, I heard this urban legend in the late 80's, for two different bands, it was a favorite at the Rainbow for late night bullshit/top this story sessions drenched in alcohol and cocaine. It's bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Rolling Stones on tour again!! Hahahaha
Shit, not only will all the band members be in wheelchairs, the audience will be too! hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  59. Stones had a farewell tour in the 80’s that I remember as a kid begging my dad to take me to a concert. He said maybe when they actually do retire. Wish I could take him up on that!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Aerosmith
    Led Zeppelin

    ReplyDelete
  61. Didn't Jimmy Page keep a very young woman captive? Don't know if that's real or not, as the woman seems to relish telling the story but I'm not willing to judge her on this matter. However, if he was prone to this behavior, it would likely be repeated, no?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Another option for your consideration--this entire blind is utter bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why not U2? They were my first thought.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Have you ever thought that the girls just left and declined to press charges?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Rob Halford is gay, and their original drummer Dave Holland is gay and a convicted rapist - he raped a disabled teen in a wheelchair who he was tutoring/teaching drums to. KK Downing, Glenn Tipton, and Ian Hill have good reps, and were known as being very nice guys in the metal genre. I don't think its Iron Maiden or Def Leppard either, none of the bands have announced plans to stop touring or recording.

Kidnapping women by rock bands is not unheard of btw - Jimmy Page kidnapped a teenage groupie for over a year back in the 70's and was never charged

My guess would be The Rolling Stones, they were involved in some very shady doings back in the late 60's all the way to the late 70's.

she was a groupie -teenage one- who he tried to seduce, she rejected him so HIS MANAGER BROUGHT HE RTO HIM AS A GIFT, but she stayed with him and even had fights with bebe bluel his gf like 2 years after she started "dating" Jimmy Page ...

Pamela des Barres the most famous groupies of all used to say there was 2 teenage groupies that were TAKING THE SCENE AND "OLD" ONES LIKE HER COULDNT COMPETE CAUSE THEY WERE READY TO DO ANYTHING ...

    ReplyDelete
  73. This sounds like Led Zeppelin. I remember hearing about how Jimmy page practically kidnapped a 14 year old while on tour that he ended up dating

    ReplyDelete
  74. Do Led Zeppelin still sell out stadiums? This has to be the Stones.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Zeppelin was never in a Stones/Who rumored-last-tour mode. It was an up and running entity intent on keeping on until the drummer died.

    ReplyDelete
  76. It can really only be the Stones, if it's true. None of the other bands mentioned sell out stadiums today, if they ever did. Led Zeppelin would if they ever got back together but they're not.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I will ABSOLUTELY find The Def Leppard Story and watch it. It sounds horrible and campy and awesome. :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Not the Stones, it's always rumored it'll be a last tour but they don't really go on "last tours" despite the current Rolling Stone headline. The Who are a good fit, particularly with what we know about Townshend.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I'm trying to figure out why anybody would guess a "foreign based band" to be Kiss, Aerosmith or The Eagles.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have not been a long time member but a daily reader for the last 6 months. Since this was a first hand account will we get a reveal on this one? Still against the Stones guesses. I listened to Physical Graffiti today and Jimmy and the boys seem much more the type, however the fair well tour doesn't apply. My guess is The Who.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Hey Unknown, I'd rather read these than Teen Mom and rapper garbage any day.

I don't think De Leppard did a bunch of farewell tours.

Someone said Kiss. But they aren't foreign based. Gene Simmons is foreign born, having been born in Israel. but that doesn't make Kiss foreign based.

I think that the answer this blind wants you to have is the Rolling Stones. no matter what. That's what the blind wants. Much like that blind about the old guy that died in a car accident this year that was supposedly James Dean. Idiots even posted about it on his memorial page after reading the blind. So disrespectful.

So I'm going to say the answer is the Rolling Stones. No matter what. Even if it seems off or wrong. Because that's the answer we're all supposed to guess.
