Today's Blind Items - Legend - Mr. X - Golden Globes

At a private Globes after party last night, this legendary permanent A-list actress and comedienne was asked who the worst behaved guest on her long running, forever in reruns show was. She answered without hesitation that the worst was the male half of that singing sibling duo, who was a complete control freak over his sister's appearance. She's also convinced he was on coke. What's worse was that the duo's mother was hovering around the set like a vulture. The legendary funny lady said things came to a head during a lunch break in the TV studio commissary. The mother gave the chef strict orders to give her daughter a bowl of soup and a glass of water. The funny lady, concerned, offered the singer a tray of food. Enraged, the brother swooped down and took the tray from his sibling. Then, the mother came up to the legend and yelled at her to never do that again.. and slapped her daughter on the face in front of the stunned cast and crew. Her brother was also yelling at her like she was a little girl. The legend and her producer husband had the mother kicked out of the studio. Very disturbing.

  7. Oh yes - Carol Burnett and the Carpenters - Karen (anorexic) and Richard.

  8. One of my favorite lines i have heard on the net: "if Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass split that ham sandwich, they would both be alive."

  9. Carpenters for sho.

  10. The Carpenters appeared on the Carol Burnett show in 1972. As far as I can tell, Donny and Marie did not

  11. Has to be the Carpenters on the Carol Burnett Show - the one they were on aired 9/22/1971. Donny and Marie were never on the show. And it would make sense, considering the many stories told about the parents and Richard abusing Karen.

  12. I'm actually okay with being wrong on this one. Call me strange, but I really like the Osmonds...

  13. So glad you're back, Count, even tho I have to clean my monitor after the spit-take I took when reading your ham sandwich comment. ;)

  14. I was stunned to see in a documentary that Richard Carpenter fucked every female friend that Karen had. It got to a point where Karen cut herself off from all her aquantance because Richard was always trying to plough them, to a degree that makes "me too" movement look like the Halloween party at the Playboy mansion.

Before that I naturally had him down as 'good with colours', a 'puddle jumper' who 'bowls from the Pavilion', ' orders rice instead of chips'.

  15. Richard Carpenter needs to be called out loudly. Enty has a blind worse than this. Just his control over her appearance is bad enough,it was surely worse.

  16. @Flashy Vic,same here, and it made his obsession with her appearance tolerable at the time. What we know now.😕

  17. Hello Count, nice to see you again!

  18. Weird thing in the blind...mentions that the legend was convinced he was coked up, but Richard was a notorious Quaalude user, who went to rehab a couple of times for his downer dependency.

  19. Wait, what? Count is back? Or have you been back? I'm not real up-to-date on the website anymore....

  20. So basically Richard & the mother murdered Karen.

  25. i don't think it's a minus, it's a hyphen @guesser

  26. This is def the Carpenters with Karen's eating disorder.

Her parents were really unaffectionate and her brother is known to be a control freak.

  27. Gotta be the Carpenters. I've never liked their sound; it's so saccharine I get a headache when I hear his voice. Weren't there rumors that he molested or raped her?

Carol Burnette and The Carpenters. What a sad story. Poor Karen never had a chance.

  29. Definitely Richard Carpenter, and that nightmare mother.
The film with Cynthia Gibb hinted at what the Carpenter's mother was like.

  30. Karen Carpenter. Watched a documentary on her last year & her family seemed very controlling of her

  31. My grandparents bought an old car from the Carpenters back in the 70s. Said they seemed like a great family, very down to earth. It was sad to learn after Karen's death how many secrets they they were hiding.

  32. And it was a Ford Pinto! Before it was found to catch fire in when bit from behind.lol

  33. This is definitely the Carpenters. Without revealing too much, I know somebody who knew them very, very well. The mom favored Richard, unfortunately, sending Karen on a downward spiral. She became anorexic in order to get her mom's attention. The mom is a terrible person.

  34. Didn’t Enty have a blind where it said Richard had raped Karen? I think I remember that.

    1. Yes. And on youtube documentary, Richard raises his voice while speaking about Karen. That poor woman was bullied to an early death. What a creep

    2. I recall reading that as well.

  35. @cheesegrater 15,yes,but also listen to her voice without the smaltzy Arrangements,it's amazing. Richard went all out to keep her from recording with producers who would do it justice.

  36. Karen Carpenter alright. What a tragedy it all was. That woman's voice was truly a gift from God. Yes, Richard's terrible arrangements were no help at all. Listen to Karen. She was angelic.

Her story is so grippingly sad every which way you look at it, everybody in her life seemed so cruel to her.

  37. The comic legend is Carol Burnett, but I wanted the singing duo to be the Osmonds. The Osmonds were also on CBS around the same time. I still think Donny and Marie were doing it.

  38. Now THIS is good dirt!

  39. @noodlebug Nope, that's a minus around here. Enty does not write like the rest of us.

@Count Hey, great to have you back! You are possibly the worst example of humankind, but you own it and I can totally respect that (no snark). :)

  40. Is there such a thing as the "permanent A-minus" list? Like an eternal list purgatory for almost superstars. I don't think so. I'm going with a hyphen and not a minus sign.

  41. Karen Carpenter was an outstanding rock drummer too. This BI is terrible.

  42. My private school used to do field trips to the Carpenter family home were we would sit in the living room on the very soft dark green carpet while Richard would play a white piano (only piece of furniture in the room) and Karen would sing. They would then hold out a very large candy jar for each of us to take one piece as we walked out.
They were super sweet and it kills me to hear these stories about how she was tortured, she deserved better.

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's the Carpenters. Karen died as a result of anorexia. The mother was horrible and adored Richard, but treated Karen like dirt.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I thought Karen's brother wanted her to eat. I wasn't alive when she passed but love her voice.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Carpenters was my first concert. I had no idea that Richard tortured and possibly raped Karen. I had no idea he screwed her friends to the point that she had no friends. I really thought he was gay, but being gay wouldn't preclude him from molesting his sister.
I heard Karen Carpenter sing live in the early 70's. She truly had the voice of an angel. Pure, strong. She played some mean drums, too.
Now it makes sense how angry and "tortured" Richard Carpenter has always been about Karen. He helped to kill his meal ticket and when comparing his talent to Karen's it is obvious that she was so far above him that she couldn't see him from the mountaintop. The only way for Richard to make money after she was gone was to ride her memory. Karen Carpenter is definitely A+ permanent forever legendary status no matter what Enty or anyone else says about her.
Fuck her parents---especially her mother who sounds evil.
Bless Carol Burnett for at least trying to feed Karen.
I haven't been here on CDAN for very long so I hadn't heard the previous blinds about Richard Carpenter. This one hurts a lot.
    Rest in peace, Karen.

  48. It's sad that this is the same show that made fun of Cass Elliot when she was a guest. She was featured in a comedy skit that had some very cruel jokes about her weight.

    1. Having been a kid during the CB show, comedy shows had jokes about weight height, race , nose size etc... that's how it was. Carol always made fun of her looks and she was one if the 1st ones to have a chin job. Sad but true.
