Blind Item #7

I know he was with his wife earlier in the evening, but late last night, this permanent A- list singer/musician/founder was trolling The Abbey for a guy to hook up with.

Talk about an old Queen. Trolling is right. I can't imagine going to a club looking for young D. Even knowing who he is I doubt the WeHo boys even looked at him twice.

  5. Hm, suddenly it makes sense Brian May and Roger Taylor INSISTING on having Bryan Singer and no one else direct Bohemian Rhapsody. The people behind this movie and in it have gotten away with so much. Ben Hardy, the procurer. Rami Malek, the liar. Graham King, Queen members, all enablers

  6. Brian May doesn't sing.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Roger Taylor isn't primarily known as a singer, though. He does sing - such as on the infamous "I'm in Love with my Car" - but he has a very weak voice.

He was beautiful in his day, but in 2019 he looks like Santa Claus.

  8. They both sing on Queen records. I think Brian is higher ranked that Roger.

    1. They do both sing and both co founded with Freddie... could be either Roger definitely looks like a closet case though

  9. Both brian and roger do sing, harmonies was a special feature of queen records, they also sang on a few as well. Plus solo records.

  10. So a something, something, and Founder? I'm going to guesse ODO.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I doubt Roger would be classified as a singer first and foremost, and Brian was classified as “permanent A list” in the blind after the Globes.

    ReplyDelete
  12. John-- who is ODO?

  13. I've been to an Adam Lambert + Queen concert. Highly recommend.

Both Brian May and Roger Taylor sing. They and Adam sound MUCH better in person.

As for the blind, I'm going with Roger Taylor.

    1. He pings on the gaydar.

    2. He has a type - tall, mannish looking blonde women. His current wife looks horrid. I wonder if she got breast implants to make herself more attractive. Maybe she should have gotten dick implants?

    3. Years ago I read a republished article (the article appeared in a special issue of Guitar Magazine) in which an insider disclosed Roger Taylor did more outrageous things than Freddie Mercury. According to the source, this was no secret because the band and others would share breakfast and discuss what they had done the previous evening.

    4. I know Enty gives red herrings and does not want to make the guesses to easy. Brian May has a doctorate and I *think* he has an OBE or something.

    5. Brian May's wife Anita Dobson is currently in a play in England, so unless she took time off to travel with him to California, the blind is definitely about Roger Taylor.

Odo is a character from Star Trek Deep Space Nine portrayed by Rene Auberjonois. He was a shape shifter. The Vorta call the Shape Shifter/Changelings "Founders."

  16. Roger Taylor is famous for his falsetto

  17. @Disillusioned Fan

Roger Taylor recently put out an album. He was lead singer in his very first band. He has put out albums with his band The Cross and also as a solo artist. Enty is well within his rights to list "singer" first.

And he sounds better in person.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'll just throw in Don Henley for s & g.

  19. Thanks TW re: the outrageous Taylor info. I did not know all of that.

The film "Bohemian Rhapsody" makes repeated references to Roger Taylor's promiscuity, with the Freddie character suggesting at one point that Roger had enjoyed more sexual partners than Freddie did.

Nice to hear that he sounds better in person. I should have stated in my original answer that he's not best known as a LEAD singer, because you're right that his falsetto is famous.

I also saw Queen + Adam Lambert, and they were a fun evening. Adam is very careful to emphasize that he is not Freddie and not trying to be Freddie. Adam does his own schtick. I'm sure he makes a lot of money off those gigs; he must be one of the most financially successful of the AI alumni.

Did you catch Adam's cameo in BR? He plays the truck driver Freddie fucks in the men's room.

    Thanks for replying!

The special edition of Guitar Magazine reprinted several old articles, contained sheet music, etc. It came out (no pun intended) over 10 years ago and I still have it. In one of the articles, the reporter said he was to interview Freddie in his hotel room. Either Freddie was not expecting this, the reporter arrived early, or Freddie lost track of time because..

...the reporter saw Freddie being fed and "serviced" by BOYS (think young teens). Freddie was embarrassed. Considering Freddie hung out with Cliff Richard and Gary Glitter, I am not surprised.

A lot of old articles are reprinted online in Queen fan forums and such. They are easy to Google.

For me, Adam + Queen did not put on a concert, they gave an experience. Adam and Brian had better rapport with the audience. Seems like Roger wanted to play drums and collect a check. They started late and were obviously tired but still...

They performed so well while visibly fatigued, I wonder how they would have performed if they were well rested!

I also thought Queen should keep Adam, his voice is that beautiful and he has amazing stage presence!

I did not watch Bohemian Rhapsody. I understand dramatic license and the need for audiences to suspend disbelief. Unfortunately I read a ton of articles complaining about a multitude of gross inaccuracies even when dramatic license was taken into account. I chose not to "sneak" to the theaters to watch it. I have Amazon Prime and Roku so I guess I could watch it later if I want. The film is also out (pun intended) on dvd.

    What do you recommend?

  21. It was a different time...

  22. I liked it.

I don’t get the “straightwashing” criticism; we see Freddie kissing men and visibly turned on by men; we see him cottaging with Lambert, telling his female partner about his feelings for men, then later enjoying a leather bar and ending up in a loving relationship with a man. We see him suspecting he has AIDS, being diagnosed with AIDS, and telling his bandmates he has AIDS. And his promiscuity is shown in parallel with Taylor’s.

We also see the consequences of his drug and alcohol abuse, and his loneliness at the peak of his career.

You’re right that they played with the timelines, made Freddie’s solo record more of a drama than it really was, and if you’re a fan you’ll notice songs appearing out of order. These were minor things for me.

  23. Roger Taylor has an amazing voice on records and live (I saw the original QUEEN three times). He always "pinged" for me. He also threw me a drumstick after a show. He and Fred were very close - closer than any other members of the band. Roger's voice was a natural Tenor, not a Falsetto. There is no QUEEN without Fred.

I think you are telling me to relax and enjoy the film. Unfortunately if I rent or by it the studio and those involved get paid. I should have paid for one film and snuck in to see BoRhap!

    @Sd Auntie

Thank you! I am slowly returning to normal. I want to get better faster and I don't want to return to "normal", I want to be better. With God's help this will happen.

Thank you all for your kindness. I hope you all can enjoy the Oscars tonight, it is going to be $hitacular!

I was a child during the 80s and had no opportunity to hear Queen live with Freddie. I disagree that there is no Queen without Freddie. That is my opinion, that is not fact.

I would love to know what people who have heard both Freddie and Adam in concert think!

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Nutty Flavor: thanks for the synopsis. I'll probably see BoRap at some point. I'd like to note for accuracy's sake that Fred was bisexual, leaning more toward men. He had many affairs (or should I say one-nigh-stands?), with women. He left Mary half his estate, and his house. He did love women.

  27. TW-- thank you for the response! I used to enjoy DS9 (cant claim to be a die hard), but I was purely thinking music industry member initials!! I like those old rock articles, too! Great peeks behind the curtain.

Hiram -- terribly jealous of the concert experiences! FM had stopped touring before I started going to shows. Loved them, though, since my days of rocking out to Killer Queen in the way back of the station wagon!😊

  28. @Vita: I changed my screen name. I knew to wait until after the show. I first made eye-contact with Fred, and he threw me a rose. Some Neanderthal, showed me and took the rose. Roger saw that, gestured to me, and tossed me a drumstick, that another knuckle-dragger wrestled from my hands. It doesn't matter about the rose & stick: what matters is that I made eye contact and had an exchange with two of my heroes. Oh, QUEEN in their heyday were wonderful!

  29. Elphin-- You're messing with my head! Maybe youre the shapeshifter, lol!!!

DS9 was my least favorite, I would rather watch Enterprise. I do know you have to watch DS9 in order from the beginning or you will be lost.

The last Trek film I saw was the one where Data dies. The series finale of Voyager should have been a feature film. Zoe Saldana rubs me the wrong way and I don't care for the mirror universe nonsense so I'm not gonna watch the new movies. I make do with The Orville.

I have not seen the new Trek show on CBS Access. I refuse to pay for it. I cut the cord. The only reason I have Amazon Prime is because I am a student. Amazon Prime Student is a life saver and pays for itself even though the price has increased every year.

Both Anita Dobson and Serena Taylor are in the audience, but I am still going with Roger Taylor as the answer to this blind.

  39. WHY DID RAMI MALEK WIN?!

Is his Oscar win gonna be cursed like Adrien Brody's?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree with CDAN, Malek did not need those fake teeth to look like Freddie.

Malek told Lucy Boynton she had captured his heart. She looked like she wanted to throw up.

  41. Malek told his beard, I meant girlfriend Lucy Boynton she had captured his heart. She looked like she wanted to throw up.

I like the under dog. I hope the lead actress in Roma wins. Anyone but GaGa. I know Bradley Cooper is upset about losing. It was his bad luck Bohemian Rhapsody cast Rami Melek and came to theaters in 2018. The film was supposed to have been over and done with years ago but you all know that story.

I thought for sure Glenn Close would win.

    M. Ali took best supporting actor. I remember him from the show Crossing Jordan. He is a good actor.

  45. This may have been touched on, but why didn't Lambert play Freddie?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Adam would have been OK for the singing scenes, but I doubt he could have captured the quieter moments of Freddie's personality.

Adam's training is in musical theater, not dramatic acting or film acting.

    ReplyDelete
  47. +1 Nutty_Flavor

    @Jennacheryl

Adam does not want to replace Freddie in the band, so imagine what would happen if he portrayed Freddie on film?

Also, Sascha Baron Cohen was originally cast to portray Freddie. We all know what happened with that.

Rami Melek has the speaking voice and the look. I believe he did not need those fake teeth, he looks more like Freddie without them!
