The only time I ever eat a pancake is at The Plaza Cafe in Santa Fe. Blue Corn Pancake with Pinons with butter and maple syrup, and a rasher of bacon on the side. Heavenly!
Don't really eat them, but I will say the best ones I ever had were at a bed and breakfast in Montauk. They were made with Jiffy corn muffin mix. With real maple syrup, they were delish.
Maple syrup is fine. But real maple syrup not what American restaurants put out as maple syrup. If you're married and traveling make sure your wife carries a small bottle of maple syrup in her purse.
Not a huge fan of pancakes but if I eat them I either like blueberries or bananas mixed in the batter or strawberries on top. And a dash of maple syrup.
I just made pancakes that had frozen cream cheese cubes and fresh blueberries in the batter- the cream cheese melts on the griddle so they’re a bit oozie...topped with maple syrup & crumbled graham crackers - delicious! (Courtesy of Chrissy Tiegen’s new cookbook, which is really good)
Pink_Palace-- Paczkis are Polish fried "jelly" doughnuts...a decadent treat for Mardi Gras. Anywhere in US with a huge Polish population usually has Paczkis for sale in all of the groceries and bakeries. Polish bakeries in Chicago area have people buying them by the multiple dozens to take to workplaces, and lines are around the block in the morning.
Outside can be glazed, powdered sugar, regular sugar or plain

British traditional style. A squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of caster sugar with a dollop of whipped cream (optional). British/Australian pancakes are much thiner than USA variety (we call those pikelets).
Peanut Butter and Log Cabin or Mrs. Butterworth's .... and I like mine cooked enough to give the edges a little crispiness. On a different, yet also delicious, note....I had a strawberry glazed Paczki just this afternoon! It was super tasty and came from the bakery at the local grocery store!
The Dutch have more than 50 different types of pancakes (pannekoeken). I like the apples and bacon one, while my husband likes the curry ones. I realize that this is different to what most people think pancakes have in/on them, but going to the Pannekoekenhuis in Den Haag is fabulous!

ReplyDeleteUsually just real maple syrup. In spring/summer I often make homemade syrup using fresh fruit- peaches, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

Some fillings-- custard, cheese (like danish), fresh strawberry, strawberry jelly, raspberry, prune, lemon, guava, blueberry cheesecake, key lime, etc..
If you have any weakness to non-cake doughnuts, they are delish!
That being said..pancakes with butter and syrup and also fried cinnamon apples can be fabulous, too!
