Today's Blind Items - Bring Me A Bottle - Old Hollywood

There were a lot of tragedies back in old Hollywood. Many of them happened to the actors and actresses that were trying and mostly failing to transition from silent movies to talkies. One of those was the subject of our blind. She was foreign born and worked for some of the biggest directors of the time, including ones still known today. She was always known as someone who would definitely hit the casting couch to get work and she got a lot of work. She even worked a lot via the casting couch even while she was married to an at that time A list actor. The thing is though, he didn't know she was doing that and when he found out, he left her and then started talking publicly about what she had done. This caused her to start losing out on a bunch of work. The husband was not finished with his revenge though. He knew she was an alcoholic who was trying to quit and he would send over producers to her place with booze knowing she would drink it because she wouldn't say no to them for fear of missing out on a job. Soon, her drinking was so bad she couldn't work at all and spent her life trading sex for booze. She didn't even care about money. It was just a procession of men all day and night.

The ex came over one night and got his final revenge by killing her. Her corpse was found several days later, but she was in such bad shape from the abuse her body had taken and what her dog had done to the body that no one even suspected she had been killed and probably wouldn't have done anything about it anyway.

  2. Marie Prevost and it's not true that her dog ate her body, there were just a few bite marks on the corpse.

  3. Sounds like a winner Florence

  4. The police said they thought the dog had bitten her arms and legs to try and get her to wake up. she had been found only because the dog was barking incessantly and neighbors complained

  5. Her last ex-husband - Kenneth Harlan - was apparently quite the a$$ - wouldn't even pay for a funeral even though he was still working.
She died without enough money to provide a proper burial and was buried in a pauper's grave.

Sounds like a gender swapped version to the ending of the razors edge

  7. Kenneth Harlin was the husband and the coroner's report said she died of acute alcoholism. But you know he could have sat there next to her and forced her to drink all the stuff from the empty bottles they found with the body, you think Enty?

  8. +1 Florence, right on the money.

Supposedly died of acute alcoholism or severe malnutrition, that would rule out most types of murder, pretty sure they would have noticed blunt force or any wounds. Some sort of suffocation or poison then maybe?

  9. Wiki says Prevost's fate as well as others prompted the Hollywood community to create the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital to provide medical care for employees of the television and motion picture industry. It also said she was worth $300 at the time of her death. Sad.

  10. She wouldn't be the first depressed alcoholic to drink to death alone though. Flapper couchers, wow, well the 20's is coming again.

  11. Sad story. I don't know what role he had in the actual night of her death, but Kenneth Harlan had NINE wives. Between that and not contributing to her burial, one gets the impression he probably was not a good guy.

  12. This has always been a toss up with the death of Lupe Velez as Hwood's most sordid death. K Anger's Hollywood Babylon has the deets.
Personally, I vote for Hank Fonda's wife slitting her throat in a nut house as tops in total points. Not as poetic, but can you imagine the level of crazy required? Oy Henry! You musta' been a top tiered shit to inspire such a thing.

    1. Yes@substance d. Mrs. Fonda's death is truly horrific. Henry a POS.

    2. Anger’s Hollywood Babylon has been debunked, almost completely, over the years. His story about Lupe Velez was the subject of a “You Must Remember This” podcast by Karina Longworth late last year. Give it a listen...it’s much more credible than anything Kenneth Anger made up. I’m

  13. Maybe her husband didn't directly cause her death, but considering what a creep he was it isn't entirely out of the question. The movie studio would have covered for him. A lot of these old time Hollywood deaths were not as they seemed.

  14. She was a winner
    Then became her doggie's dinner
    (Nick Lowe)

When your blind item consist of amplifying claims by Kenneth Anger that have long been debunked, you know credibility is out of the window.

Marie Prevost and factor in that she was overweight, even by the standards of the day. By the time sound came in all she could play was the fat sassy friend of the lead. She was very pretty and not even fat at all by today's standards. Sad story but I had never heard of the husband before. Google search says he was married 9 times!

  16. I love how people call in question this site’s credibility. I’d guess that 97% of it is total bullshit that people eat up like gospel, lmao. It’s entertainment. Read it as such and move on. Anyone can make up shit about nameless, faceless people any time.

For example: Which three name, foreign born actress you all know was kicked out of her hotel room after her manager’s brother’s cousin’s neighbor brought in a fainting goat for her to snort cocaine out of its ass?

Little Satanboy Anger perpetuated the "dog ate her body" myth.

  18. Most sordid death to me will always be Steve Cochran--died on a sex-cruise on a yacht with 3 women, one underage.

The yaught wasn't found for weeks, they finally rescued the three starving, half-crazed women and Steve's rotting corpse...

  19. Also Linda Darnell---so beautiful---being burned over 70% of her body because instead of jumping out of an upstairs bedroom window, she ran downstairs into the flames to try to save a few thousand dollars she had laid out---as she been doing her taxes earlier that day.

  20. Intrigued by Thomas Ince's death on Hearst's yacht. Did WRH really kill him by mistake as portrayed in The Cat's Meow or did someone else kill him on the boat? If so, what was the reason?
Will never believe Ince died of natural causes.

  21. I live this Old Hollyweird stuff and I hope that when Kirk Douglas finally goes to where you can't get near the fire for priests and Kennedy's, that Enty gives us a whole day of blinds devoted to his Kirk's crimes.

  22. As an alcoholic I can say it’s a pain in the ass to keep hauling all the bottles to the trash so just because she may have been surrounded by 20 bottles doesn’t mean she drank more than 3 or 4 of them

At least, these blinds on Old Hollywood are harmless. Everybody mentioned here has been dead for decades, and Hollywood has always been about legend rather than facts.

I posted to mention that the claims were most likely bogus, as the issue is about current blinds, that are written to comfort people in their own prejudices and to drive them quietly towards a rather obvious political agenda. A few recent blinds for instance were nothing else than rewrites of pieces published elsewhere, including Breitbart.

  29. A dance through Hollywood necro porn is not complete without a shout out to Thomas Naguchi, coroner to the stars. The story of how he finally had his way with Miss Monroe on the lab slab is well known. What isn't known is what Gay Edgar Hoover did to Bobby Kennedy's helpless corpse after he got whacked in LA as that jap's film burned in discretely hidden cameras.
AFI has a top ten missing films list but everyone knows Noguchi's stag reel from the morgue is the one everyone wants. What some of the oil sheiks are willing to pay for a glimpse is staggering, according to my sources.

  30. @Substance D-

Having sex with a dead body - am I alone in that my mind would not go there?

My late Mom though was afraid that someone would want to have sex with her dead body.
