Blind Item #4 - Met Gala

The sunglassed one hated the outfit of the wife of the foreign born dual threat A/A list actor. She thought it looked like a prom dress from Sixteen Candles.

Literally pretty in pink dress lol

  5. MDAnderson most of them were horrible. If she is going to start hating the dresses why did she choose Camp as a theme for the party???

    1. I completely agree but Wintour is a catty bitch and that’s what’s she does. I didn’t think it was that bad. Benedict’s outfit just made him
      Look stupid.

    2. I’m still not sure what “camp” means?

Is it “camp” if you print every single Instagram photo you’ve ever posted on a large piece of fabric and then sew it into a gown with your Instagram photos (of mostly selfies) on it? Or is that just “kitschy”?

      Delete
    3. PS: No offence to anyone who actually did that (walked around in a gown with their Instagram/social media photos printed all over it)! If anyone actually showed up with a dress with their very social media posts & narcissistic mugs, it’s PURELY COINCIDENTAL.

Not trying to insult anyone here. Just a random example.

    4. My understanding of "camp" is that it's so bad it's good, but in a very EXTRA way. Like they went overboard trying, but it was still terrible.

    5. I think your example would just be kitschy or tacky. Lady Gaga nailed it this year, in my opinion.

    6. Oof! I’ve never been called “tacky” in my life ever, I don’t think.

(I guess I’ll be cancelling my order for that fabric printer then...) 👀👩🏻‍💻

Anyway, if it’s supposed to be SUPER EXTRA, perhaps The Sunglassed One did not approve of this BI’s subject because she thought they were not making an effort?

  7. Doesn't the blind says" wife"? Is this Debicki married with an A list actor?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Blind for Goop? Why did she show, after insulting the event and saying she will never go,and shows up in a dress that looked like a nightgown. This theme everyone should have had fun with, and most were epic fails.

  9. Wasn't it being reported that Benedict and his wife were having a third child back in September. She didn't look pregnant???

  10. actually, it's very hard to distinguish Camp by Kitsch..guess perhaps Camp kinda meta-s itself, while Kitsch is just over the top?

    1. There’s an entire essay on it here: https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/5/3/18514408/what-is-camp-explained-met-gala-susan-sontag

      EXCERPT:

“Sontag dedicated “Notes on Camp” to Oscar Wilde, the 19th-century poet and playwright who wrote The Importance of Being Earnest, and she sprinkles the essay with some of Wilde’s famous epigrams. That’s because Wilde’s life and aesthetic more or less defined the sensibility. If you are trying to decide whether something is camp, a solid litmus test is to ask yourself, “Would Oscar Wilde react to this with delight, delighted contempt, or only pure contempt?” If it’s one of the first two, you’re golden.”

But the article also says you’re not supposed to be humourous on purpose.

      Whatever.

  12. Gotta be the 'Batch and Wife of the 'Batch.

I thought he was on the nose for camp- a bit of Truman Capote, a dash of Tom Wolfe.

She, on the other hand, looked like she was wearing Rapunzel's duvet and would need a neck brace by the end of the night, what with all the neck stretching and craning she was doing.

  16. @MJ - which is ironic, seeing how boring Rami Malek was last night.

  17. Oscar Wilde was the DEFINITION of Dandy..guess he would find " delightuful" Camp just bc it looks against the rules, otherwise, by a strictly style point of wiew, he would look at it with contempt OR Delighted COntempt

I have more or less read that Sontag's essay, and i found it not really right for the style

  19. Can women do camp? I'm looking at the pictures and not sure any women are camp.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Camp is more like totally over the top than normally isn't done.

    ReplyDelete
  21. An example of a woman doing camp was Gaga's meat dress that she wore that one time.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Over the top to have fun

    ReplyDelete
  23. perhaps bc she might have dressed " for fun"" but the dress wasn't really" over the top"?

  25. The best outfit I saw was a woman I didn't know (of) who was carrying around a picture frame she held up in front of her face.

  26. I had a nightgown like Goops dress when i was a kid.

  27. The Cumberbatch baby was born back in January. No official announcement yet, good for them keeping it private as long as possible.

Tracee Ellis Ross wearing a frame was a shout out to Harlem culture. I saw an explanation of wearing picture frames to certain events on twitter yesterday.

There is a fine line between camp/surreal/avant garde. Some got it, some didn't, some came very close. Most of the men failed, and too many women wore something they could just as easily wear to the Oscars. It was still kind of fun to watch.

Sophie and Benedict got it, they did camp by the English definition. A bit Dandy, a bit Victorian.

  28. @ForSure- links? Proof?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Benedict and Tracee were dressed perfectly. As was Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld. They actually got it and didn't go over the top like so many even though I thought that was a lot of fun.

  30. Here you go Zebra, its not that hard to google tracee ellis ross.

  31. It's ridiculous that the celebrities get sh!t but not the designers. How many people actually know wtf camp means in fashion? You can't blame them for trusting famous designers.

  32. GWENYTH PALTROW LOOKED LIKE DOG SHIT.

Who are we even talking about here? Sophie Hunter?!?!?!!?!? Who gives a shit about her fluffy dress when Gwenyth Paltrow looked like butter on toast but earlier in the morning because she's not dressed yet.

Wtf!?!?!? Nobody GAF about Bennecutn's wife jeeeezzzzz WTF with butt face paltrow frog posture always thin lipped and scraggly haired.

    1. Hunter she is another I will never get the attraction. She looks terrible & has the hubris to go out in public without makeup on that hideous mug. BUT, she does smile. So there's that.

  33. @ForSure- sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant about the baby.

    ReplyDelete
  34. If they haven't announced it yet, how can there be links, Zebra? You follow the septic blogs on tumblr, you probably are one of the lesser known or lurking blogs, you already know about the pictures from Paris in February. She was clearly pregnant in September at the Emmy awards, she wasn't pregnant about 4 months later. Work it out.

The irony of asking for proof from anyone on this website. Thanks, I needed that laugh.

  35. Just wondered if there had been breaking news I missed.

  36. 🖼 Anyway, the stylist who dressed the lady with the picture frame explained her choice: https://www.instyle.com/fashion/tracee-ellis-ross-met-gala-2019

    🖤 EXCERPT:

“Karla Welch, who dressed the black-ish star, hinted at what was to come on Monday morning. "We went camp in a really kind of cerebral, nuanced way," she said over the phone. "I feel like it’s a very layered thing, and you have to like, think about it when you see it."

Rather than go with feathers, or ruffles, or oversize sleeves, Karla said she interpreted Camp slightly differently. "We’re going more…a piece of art, to be honest," she told us about Tracee's look. "It’s how we make ourselves art. For me, camp is a vessel for art, and we took that into consideration. Also, a woman is a piece of art, so there’s something there as well."”

  38. Cumberbatch’s suit reminded me of Maxwell in the Luxury:Cococure video. Which I haven’t seen in years and apparently it doesn’t exist online anywhere any longer. How is this even possible?
