The return last night would never have been possible during the reign of this actress/writer/producer who starred on the same show forever. She made/makes you choose sides as to whether you were against the actor or with the actor. If you were/are with him, you were/are shunned by her.

ReplyDeleteAdam Sandler was on SNL from 1990-1995 and Tina didn’t come in until 1997 so there was no overlap.
ReplyDeleteI know that Tina has said before that before she started at SNL it was all drugs backstage, but when she got there they replaced the drugs with food. Maybe after firing Sandler and Farley SNL got rid of the drugs?
Don’t like Tina but Sandler’s movies were usually with his male buddies and used male writers.
ReplyDeleteDuring Sandler's time is was known that the female comedians and staff were treated like shit. I am not sure if he was the main reason for this but most of the blame should fall on Lorne, right? I know Fey has mentioned in interviews how she had to break a lot of misogynistic and sexist thinking when she was hired as a writer on to SNL but was Sandler the main source of those bad habits?

ReplyDeleteIt's a little from column A and a little from column B. Sandler is a massive prick. There were a lot of women who refused to work with him at SNL and not just women. Julia Sweeney talked about him a bit after she left.
ReplyDeleteTina Fey on the other hand is also a massive prick. She is an elitist who believes she is above everyone else. There are countless stories about this woman treating people terribly because of the job they have or because of the school they went to.
If we're being honest, they're probably just too much alike.

ReplyDeleteCompletely agree Tricia . Tina is a bitch that treated her friend Rachel Dratch horribly, but Sandler is definitely a part of the boys only club. I am more forgiving of Tina Fey being a jerk though. Not that anyone should be but Sandler was just a guy being an elitist dick probably treating women like crap. Tina inherited a boys club and a mess and had to swiftly change things or get it under control. She may have turned INTO a bitch with what she had to face. Sandler as part of the boys club was just a d-bag. Fey was probably an Alpha female navigating a patriarchal show and structure trying to do her job.

Was assigned as her talent wrangler at a charity event once. She was the coldest person I ever had to work with, didn't want to be told anything, and when something unexpected happened later in the evening, made it seem like I was not being responsible when she waved me away earlier in the evening.

ReplyDeleteI have no clue at all, but often a lot of the cast overlap at Groundlings, Improv Olympic, etc. Also, sometimes cast and writers audition more than once (I think?) Before being hired. Perhaps bad blood could exist dating to even pre-SNL (for her, anyway)?

Tina is a unt with a capital C. She started taking shots at him some years back for no apparent reason.
ReplyDeleteIt's also very wellknown on the SNL set, because many of the alumni have talked about it, that it is largely up to the performers how much airtime they get. Which means writing your own material and coming up with your own hopefully recurring characters.

Tina Fey has a bitch reputation because of bitchy behavior and asshole things she has done to people. So this antiquated Gloria Steinem response of "well, she's smart and accomplished so of course she gets called a bitch" doesn't fly in this case.
