Plant based burgers. Good or bad for you?

  1. Guess we'll find out in 20 or 30 years if people start getting dementia.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Probably better than fat and greased based burgers.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Good for you, but how good do they really taste?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Depends on how many chemicals the manufacturers put in the burgers to make them taste like "beef."

DIY plant- based burgers- probably pretty healthy.

Fast food chain "brgrz" made with 1 plant part to 137 chemical parts? Not so much.

  5. whats' the point?

I'm not American, so I'll eat a burger perhaps once every 3 or 4 months, but then it has to be the greasiest, meatiest, fattiest, juiciest burger ever. I eat shitloads of plants, as in salads, but I don't want my burger to be made of plants.

  6. Yes animal insides, anus, ears etc tastes so good.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Gosh, its not a burger unless it is meat based. Plant based? Like, what is that anyways? What do they even make it with? I like the veggie burgers with the mushrooms and actual vegetables in it, but this overly processed stuff is just garbage.

  10. The impossible burger is not healthy. Loaded with salt, fat and chemicals. Eat a veggie burger or just eat meat.

  11. I've tried the Red Robin veggie burger a while back.

In the words of my then toddler daughter, "It was Yuck!"

Now, I may/may not give it a try.

    Probably not.

    =)

  13. I went out and tried the impossible Whopper. First bite was actually like a whopper. Half way into it the after taste became more metallic, similar to liver but not as pungent on the palette. Left around four bites because it lost its appeal. What you should know.

It’s a soy and heme protein combo. Heme is what gives it a fleshy consistency. They should have called it a soy burger but hey, marketing.

Impossible Whopper virtually has no less calories than a regular whopper. 630 vs 660 real deal.

I don’t recommend this fake as fuck, shit of a marketing product.

Instead. Eat plenty of whole vegetables and fruits. Eat meat according to your blood type. I’m sure most of you already know what suits you best.

  14. I ate Boca Burgers/brats/sausages in the 1990s because I thought they were healthier than the Hot Pockets I often ate at the time but now I think it is better to eat real food with just the occasional calzone, which are like better versions of Hot Pockets.

But yeah, meat is good. And vegetables are good. And oatmeal is good. Just try not to get sucked into a fad diet or eat industrial goo under the misapprehension that the industrial goo is good for you.

  15. made from peas. not good for diabetics. also my veggie luving pal and i were at Whole foods and turned over the cslories/fat and it was 24 grams of fat and high carb . ill stick to trader joes cowboy veggie burger with occassional burger.

  16. Some of them are very tasty. Some are downright gross.

  17. No claims to being a scientist, so don't know.

As a preference I try to eat little meat, and it bugs me that life depends on killing and eating other living things.

Don't have kids. End the nastiness.

  18. As bad as a burger. Same calories, same saturated fat. No better than just eating a regular burger.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had a lamb burger over the weekend. It was pretty good. Not as greasy as beef. Sadly, there was a metal tag in the burger that read, "I belong to Mary, please return me."

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Sd auntie. I have that too but never knew tofu was off limits.

  21. I eat turkey burgers and rarely red meat .

  22. yes, it says not to take it till After 4 hours but it still affects energy and tears your stomach up.

  23. They don't make meat burgers taste like vegetables...

    Original and best.

I tried the Impossible Whopper twice. It really is indistinguishable from the mean Whopper IMO and I don't mean that as a compliment. Both are basically tasteless slabs put in the bun to give it substance. The mayo ketchup combination with the weird lettuce and tomatoes is what makes a Whopper distinctive.
Fake meat is highly, highly processed. It's not good for you.
I was a vegetarian/vegan for decades before it was trendy. They made all kinds of stuff...BalonNO, TuNO, Tofurkey etc. It's all junk.
Still I'm glad vegans have more options than when I was doing it.
The real controversy is going to be lab-grown mean. That's kind of scary to me.

Meat not mean lol. I can't type today.

  30. They often have hidden sources of MSG.

  31. I am not a big fan of the vegan/vegetarian thing, but I don't understand what is wrong with the food they already have? A lot of it is quite good. Except tofu. That shit shouldn't exist.

That being said, it is corporate processed who knows what. At least I can be reasonably assured that beef is beef.

  32. +1 @ LaMorena: LOVE turkey burgers!

    ReplyDelete
  33. 30 year vegetarian here, 365 spicy veggie burger - Whole Foods brand - is the best. I've tried all of them (HATED the impossible burger).

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can see it now, the start of Vegan/Vegetarian hunting season, every year men in orange vests camped out at dawn in parking lot blinds outside Whole Foods and Trader Joes, waiting in anticipation for the first herd to show up.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bad for you as are all highly processed foods.
Plants are NOT required in any quantity for humans to be healthy. Chew on that for a while :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Bad- if you want a veggie burger have one made with real vegetables not some made to taste like meat burger.

  42. Great for you, many of them taste amazing, billions of animals do not need to be horrifically tortured, and the second leading cause of greenhouse gases disappear like the huge gut so many meat-eaters carry around. A win-win-win-win-win situation! Beyond Burgers and Impossible burgers actually bleed if you require something to bleed for your lunch.

  43. Dr. Prager's veggie burger, in the freezer section is pretty good.
And, don't eay soy or tofu, very bad for the body, will cause intestinal distress. And soy screws with one's hormones.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Soy is has always will be miles worse than any kind of meat. Have fun with your breast cancer, hypothyroidism and gynecomastia. Soy also ruins the soil so it's not even earth friendly.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Psycho, I'm in the greatest shape ever since quitting veganism and eating meat and fish every day. If you want to help the earth why don't you stop bitching about meat and bike everywhere and stop shitting out kids. Cars are far more polluting than fucking cow farts and the more people there are the worse this trash fire of a planet becomes

  46. soylent green. Don't eat kale, quinona or anything else that did not exist back in the day

    @krissie
Sounds like you are missing the spiritual point of why some of us are vegetarian.
I didn't do it for health reasons. I did it because eating other sentient beings, who suffered fear and pain just to be my food, is unacceptable to me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Right and animals totally care about human welfare. Funny how that doesn't work both ways

    ReplyDelete
  49. You guys worried about animals, might need to just have a port installed and have drip food. I

"According to researchers at the Institute for Applied Physics at the University of Bonn in Germany, plants release gases that are the equivalent of crying out in pain. Using a laser-powered microphone, researchers have picked up sound waves produced by plants releasing gases when cut or injured. Although not audible to the human ear, the secret voices of plants have revealed that cucumbers scream when they are sick, and flowers whine when their leaves are cut [source: Deutsche Welle]."

Sounds like you have forgotten that animals serve humanity, and have always served us. One more reason I choose not to eat them: Gratitude.
There is a film out there which shows what pigs suffer thru in a processing center, to become lunch meat for humans.
I dare you to Google it. Love and light to you~~~

    @AbbyRock

Sounds like you are quite defensive on this subject. Maybe try some meditation.
Ask your higher self to show you if it's acceptable to be torturing animals to become your food. Ask how this will affect your fate, when you reach the next dimension.
    The answers may surprise you.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Leave it to a high and mighty vegan to try to guilt you into eating like them. How it will affect our fate? Uhh God made meat edible in case you don't remember, it's how we survived until now. Stop smelling your own farts.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What if you raise and humanely slaughter your meat? And then use most of the animal? Good god why are vegans so determined to force everyone to adhere to their beliefs? Not eating meat isn’t a moral thing, it doesn’t make you a saint, get off the cross. Let people eat what they want.

I like and grow many vegetables to go along with my meat. I would not try a processed soy burger, ever. I think it was America’s Test Kitchen that had a vegan burger made out of beets. THAT I would definitely try and may, depending on whether or not I grow beets this winter. I don’t want a weird meat substitute made out of frankenfood. I’m betting this type of thing will cause health issues down the road.

  54. I’ve served plant based burgers to the family on the sly and no one noticed!
They tasted good (perhaps slightly more bland than my own amazing hamburger) but played havoc with my digestive system 😬
Off topic I’m on the huge ferry taking me from Melbourne to Tasmania. Just thought I’d gloat, er I mean share.

    @astra

It's my feeling that eating other living sentient beings has kept humanity in a low vibration for a very long time. That's my feeling.
I have a missing loved one in my family. I am trying everything I can to raise my vibration, including the removal of sentient beings from my diet.
I have to do anything I can. I have to try anything.
Maybe if I make enough good choices, it will bring my daughter back.
You never know what someone is going thru. Love and light to you

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't do guilt. It's a wasted emotion. Plants serve humanity as well. Do you like breathing?

    ReplyDelete
  57. "Maybe if I make enough good choices, it will bring my daughter back."

Ah, found the problem. The vegan is delusional.

If you want to be a true vegan you won't eat anything planted in the ground. They use ground up animal bones to nourish the soil. You won't drive cars because all the oil spills caused by gas companies kill wildlife and you're supporting those companies. You won't live in a house or use toilet paper because the deforestation destroys animals' natural habitats and leads to extinction. Oh let's not forget that humans are animals too so what are you doing for their welfare? Veganism is illogical by nature. You can shut up now.

  58. Burger or plant. If you want a plant, eat it. A burger, eat it.
My diet is meat, plants, dairy, fruit, and some grains. This makes my stomach and body feel good.
Oh - also vodka, cheetos, mounds bars and fritos. (my latest loves)
god i hate moderation, but that's the key

    ReplyDelete
  59. I hate that it’s assumed vegans/vegetarians want healthy burgers. I eat healthy most of the time but once in awhile I want junk food. That includes burgers.

The impossible whopper is really good. I also love the beyond famous star at Carl’s Jr.

People need to realize that the way we treat the animals being raised for food is horrific and uncivilized. We can’t be perfect, but we can say no to unnecessary torture, abuse, suffering etc.

  60. I'm with Fuchsia. I do not particularly care for the Impossible Burger. I like Boca, I like Morningstar. The Beyond Tacos at Del Taco are fantastic.
