  1. It was so nice to see Joaquin win. I was so happy for him and what a sweetheart. I was disappointed that Scarlett did not win for JoJo Rabbit, She was excellent and I really could not stand Laura Dern on Marriage Story, though I generally like her performances otherwise.

Was hoping anyone but Renee would win, but I guess it was a thin year for the Actress category. I didn't think there was anything even nomination worthy about Brad Pitt's performance in Hollywood". He simply played yet another dumb guy. Willem DaFoe should have been nominated and deserved an Oscar for his performance this year.

The Best Picture I saw last year remains JoJo Rabbit, and I still have no interest in seeing Parasite. Good luck turning the Oscar into extra box office millions, I don't think that's gonna happen.

I'n happy Taika W. won adapted screenplay for JoJo. I wish The Lighthouse had won for cinematography. It was hands down the most beautifully filmed movie I've seen in years. Every single frame looked like an Ansel Adams photograph.

I am very happy Hildur won Best Original Score for Joker. It really did enhance all the tense and creepy moments in that film.

And really, even if you hate the song, how can you not like that Elton and Bernie won an Oscar together?

  4. I saw all of the best film nominees and HANDS DOWN Parasite was the best film of the year. Over and over again.

  5. I loved Parasite, but was absolutely shocked that it won as many awards as it did. I was pretty surprised it nabbed Best Picture after winning Best International Film - I thought for sure 1917 would get Best Picture - Oscar always loves war movies and usually showers them with awards.

Brad Pitt meh. I did not think there was anything special at all about his performance. I feel like they gave him the Oscar for still looking fabulous with his shirt off.

Renee Zellwegger's win was a foregone conclusion, not a ton of competition this year. But I have a soft spot for Renee, so it was nice to see her get recognition after she had disappeared for a long stretch.

I'm not a huge Elton John fan, but I grew up with his music, and I thought it was great to see him and his longtime writing partner and pal Bernie Taupin onstage together winning something.

Overall, the show was a yawn fest for me - waaaay too many musical numbers for my liking. I really wish they would cut out all the best song performances. That's what makes it drag for me. They should do what they did for the Best Score award section, and just play a medley of the Best songs, with some of the best accompanying movie scenes. Would speed the show up so much more.

Every time I see the annual perfunctory Oscar dead people montage, it makes me think of how Turner Classic Movies does a much better and more poignant job of it.

Unlike the Globes, most people were tastefully dressed this year.

Off to check out the post-show gossip!
