  2. Look if she did it by having surgery, she’s going to gain it back anyway. Most of the people who do it that way, gain it back it’s not like exercising and learning good habits to lose it.

  5. gastric bypass is usually a bandaid & ppl who have it done just gain all the weight back cuz they never changed their eating habits into sustainable/healthy diet. Plus alcoholism can become common cuz you get more drunk w/the same amount of alcohol due to quicker absorption. The ridiculous thing is on having this surgery done...you are forbidden from having any alcohol, coffee for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Is that worth it? Nope!

Unless you are at a fatal weight (400+ I guess???) where gastric bypass can save a life & begin the slow but possible process of getting healthy, it’s such a stupid tradeoff. Adele could have lost the weight on her own. She has lost the weight so fast she looks a decade older. Fat temporarily holds off gravity as you age bc it sort of fills in for the depleted collagen. Lose it fast and you’ll get a more gaunt/older look because suddenly what’s holding that more youthful look intact disappears. That’s why ppl who lose a huge amount of weight at a slower pace often don’t look as awful as ppl with rapid weight loss.

  6. tho a great example of someone who has done the work post-surgery & embraces sustainable healthy diet changes is Al Roker imo

    1. +1000 notthisagain. Dangerous weight could be 200 for short person. Anyways, seen some real success stories and two older ladies only lost 25 pounds and reverted back to fast food right away. It is a life style change and if your on psych. Meds, its gonna come back.

  7. Not everyone who has gastric bypass gains their weight back. In fact, most of the people I have met through having the surgery have kept most, if not all, of their weight off. Every individual handles things in their own way. I had Gastric ByPass in 2001. I have kept most of the weight off. I lost about 80lbs and kept it all off until an illness a couple of years ago. I also barely qualified for surgery, so I never weighed 500lbs. I was about 217 when I had the surgery. I got down to and remained around 135-145 since. I have had periods of malnutrition where I didn't put my eating at the top of the list, and lost more, down to a very unhealthy (for me) 115 or so. That happened twice. I'm a little heavier than I like right now, but probably not over 150. I'm working on it--winter/holiday weight gets the best of all of us, lol....but let's not paint everyone with the same brush.

  8. IndigoBlue - thanks for "weighing in" (ha) really - I have a friend who got up to around 325, 350 (at 5'6") and she had the lapband put in, which has a similar effect to the gastric bypass, it is basically a donut around the stomach and it can be tightened and loosened by an injection (presumably of saline solution to inflate/deflate the band)

She lost all the weight and got down to 125, 130.

She is now back up around maybe 180 which is less than ideal and definitely has to battle to keep it off but her eating habits are not so healthy. Definitely a mixed bag but I have to say overall the surgery was a plus.

    1. The trend for some is now that ballon in the stomach. It works but really is kind of dangerous.

  9. i bet Adele's gonna start getting yachting offers. & no don't tell me she's rich.
she needs to make up for all those lost skinny years.

  10. She had gastric bypass & is now on a liquid diet. She will next go for a face lift since now she has all kinds of long lines & huge bags under her eyes.

Rebel is doing this the right way, eating right & exercising. She looks great.

  11. People who get weight loss surgery without seeing a shrink usually end up with eating disorders.

  12. It's similar to Matthew McConaughey. On the Graham Norton Show he said he was drinking a lot of red wine instead of regular calories when he was losing weight for Dallas Buyer's Club. But he lost his weight naturally with the help of a doctor.

  13. There are many times of weight loss surgery. Gastric bypass is the most drastic and you deal with malabsorption the rest of your life. A sleeve is only a restrictive surgery as is a band. There are a couple others that I am not 100% sure on the lasting details so I won't talk about them. People that have true gastric bypass have RNY and most people do keep that off and it is for the ones that are really heavy.

I had RNY 15 years ago. I lost 220.... I had a 20 pound bounce about a year after surgery the rest I have kept off. You lose very fast with the RNY I lost 220 pounds in 13 months. You DO look rough for a while after the surgery. I do think Adele had some help but it wasn't like true gastric bypass.

  14. This is the problem with addiction. She is swapping one addiction for another, food for liquor. How many people swap cigarettes for food? Cross addictions. Keith Richards gave up heroin, and switched to bourbon. You are still in the grip off ADDICTION, and you behave like an addict.

  15. How on earth can people eat so much food to get so fat? That’s what I always couldn’t understand. But I don’t really have any emotional attachment to food so it’s unfathomable. I’d also rather not eat than eat restaurant food, it’s nasty and who wants strangers touching their food? Ew. But anyways, this isn’t surprising, it’s an addiction and they’ll replace food with something else. I knew a bunch of people who got those surgeries (idk the kind, I think the bypass maybe) and all but one had lifelong issues that were worse than being fat. Like my 600lb life, if you can lose 100- 200lbs or more to get surgery, why get it at all? Just keep doing what you’re doing. Why are so many people in this world incapable of exercising any self control? What causes this?

  17. There there, LonelyApricots. My son is on the autism spectrum, tho very intelligent, and was teased mercilessly when he was in grade school. He is 22 and has a great job and is very happy with life. He realizes now that people who bully or tease are not permitted to take away his happiness. Be true to who you are and seek out people who are supportive, you will find your way in life.

  18. Is it wrong that I don't think there's anything wrong with her plan? If you need to count calories, keep the wine and ditch the food.

  19. I think she lost too much weight.

  20. I've seen a lot of biggies eat and drink right past that lap band in nothing flat.

  21. I agree with Astra. I just don't know how you can physically hold down so much food. You get yourself to that state, addiction or not. People don't have sympathy for drug or alcohol addicts so I don't see how food addicts should have a one-up.

  22. It's very common for people with weight loss surgery to become alcoholics. I'm sure the gene must be there to start with but they just replace the food with alcohol. Very sad.
