Blind Item #4

For the time being there are about ten-fifteen Secret Service agents who were pulled from bank crimes and other investigations to help protect the former actress and her celebrity husband. The number will probably go down as the rotation process for their permanent security can begin again. Currently that team is frozen in place and won't be able to do their normal two week rotations back home. Also supplementing are county law enforcement personnel. The US is picking up the bill for about 70% of the $20K a day cost which will go higher once everyone starts moving around again.

  3. This is definitely Dimwit Harry and his asshole wife. The Sun had an article about the EX-ROYALS begging for the Secret Service protection they do not deserve. Pay for your own goddamn protection, which by the way, MarkedDown, will not protect you from COVID 19.

  6. Time to start a twitter storm. Everyone should contact Trump. I don't like him but at least it will get into the news. THREE countries THREE freaking countries were paying for these idiots. Harry isn't even an American citizen or a Canadian citizen, yet our taxes are going towards him? And Meghan? I bet kidnappers would pay the US government to keep her away from them.

Please, folks, our taxes should be going towards people, families who are dealing with the Coronavirus. Not two people who wants to dance around Hollywood and act like Kings and Queens. Harry is a multimillionaire and can afford to pay for security himself. If not, he should be the UK TAXPAYERS problem. Not the US taxpayers.

Please...please @ Trump with this. The more people to contact him on twitter the better chances he'll see it and speak about it.

I can't fing believe those two have the balls to use THREE countries for their security.

    HARRY GO BACK HOME!!!!!

Now I'm hoping Meghan cleans him out in the divorce and take the kid for child support.

    1. Except the Secret Service is federal, so all US taxpayers would be footing the bill right now. The whole thing sounds strange -- but of all agencies, the Secret Service sounds right, as it operates both in the USA and in, for example, Canada. I wonder if the US protection has more to do with Harry and US-UK-Canada relations than Meghan though.

  8. I agree. Who is authorizing payment. This needs to be stopped right now. They should have enough money to pay their own way.

  9. I just tweeted Trump about doing just that. Hope a lot of other people do.

  10. I'm not sure Trump can do anything about it. There may be bilateral agreements in place; cutting off the Sussexes in the US might raise questions about the cost of protecting US diplomats in Britain.

Officially, the Sussexes are no longer part of the Royal Family as of April 1. You would think that would have an effect on their right to protection, but perhaps it doesn't.

Trump is no Sussex fan - Meghan once called him "syphills" and Harry insists that he has "blood on his hands" for encouraging the US coal industry - but he does have a good relationship with the Queen. Trump's mother was Scottish and a great Royalist.

  13. BTW, it's fine to Tweet Trump, but it would also be a good idea to Tweet some of the reporters who show up in his daily news briefings.

If Trump is asked about it live on the air, he'll have to explain why US taxpayers are on the hook for this, or perhaps give an indication of how long it will last, given that the move is "permanent."

The County law enforcement people must be furious. As if they don't have enough else to do in California right now.

  15. Why are we responsible for their security costs? They aren’t here in an official capacity. They chose to leave the royal family. If anything, they should be in England or Canada. They have millions and made their own bed, let them pay for their own security.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Nutty They have to ask for special protection from Trump as Harry is no longer a protected person as of Aprl 1. The diplomat thing is meant for short stays not permanent residents. This has been stated in a number of news articles.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8163161/Harry-Meghan-ask-Trump-special-help-Canada-bids-security-costs-farewell.html

These idiots should be raising money in support, not depleting money/resources. LA CANNOT afford it. Same with the rest of the country, we are in a recession. Why the fuck did they come here? 21. I understand, @Gauloise, and it really doesn't make sense that the Sussexes are getting protection.

My guess that something extrajudicial is in place, possibly (as a UK commenter on my blog pointed out) connected to the Harry Dunn case, which is huge in Britain but largely unknown in the US.

(Harry Dunn, a 19-year-old motorcyclist, was run down by the wife of an American diplomat driving on the wrong side of the road. The woman claimed immunity and left the UK the next day. The British public would very much like her back for a trial. It has since emerged that the woman was not just the wife of a diplomat, but a former CIA agent.)

  30. They infuriate me. Did we get a diplomatic lunch requesting protection like Canada did? Best case scenario, the secret service leave on april 1st. Because of our good will with Queen, I could see desire to protect Harry and family at certain public events, but they chose to leave royalty and move to a non-Commonwealth country! And, the choice of a $20 mil house really blows their poor-mouthing about the personal expense right out of the water. No one wants to see harm or endangerment, obviously, but I feel like every move they make is only partially thought through...to the extent of how it can work for them.

That Dunn case is a total shame, and I hope has no link to this.

  32. Trump can certainly move fast when he wants to.

Enty has good sources in Los Angeles, however, so I don't doubt that the Sussexes have some security, at least until March 31.

Could the UK be paying for the Secret Service to protect Harry and Meghan until the borders open and their RPOs can be rotated out?

This may have been the arrangement in Canada as well - some of the security was provided by Canada, but Canada was reimbursed by the UK.

  38. Trump isn't in charge of whether the government pays. Perhaps Trump should discuss with someone who knows (not the feckless sycophantic fluffers cluttering the West wing) about the particulars of any bilateral agreements with the UK regarding security. Suggest getting it right and not blow diplomatic relations our of the water. We already screwed up with the wife who doesn't know how to drive in the UK and doesn't know how to call a taxi.

Anyone who thinks Trump isn't going to protect the Queen's grandson and great-grandson is naive in the extreme. Twitter is a poor vehicle on which to make announcements that may ruffle feathers. A call to 10 Downing Street or to our UK Ambassador is certainly in order.

There's a reason why security isn't left up to personal opinion. Protection depends on a review of possible threats. The more threats and documented animosity tips the scales toward protection. If its required, the government pays. End of.

  40. I don’t know who has the authority to say who pays but this bad timing for H&M. People are jobless and are in desperate times without actually being infected with the coronavirus. No one is going to support protecting them in the US when they are worried about paying their rent and providing for your family.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Canada was said to be ending payment for their security as of March 31st. Maybe that's why the Sussex's decided to move to California now, in the midst of COVID-19. They hoped her American passport could buy them a few months of paid security. It's rumored that Megan used to send the national police in Canada to the supermarket for their groceries - just like normal regular private citizens :/

They could have gone anywhere and they choose a state with so many COVID-19 cases. Why would they expose Archie to that? Even if they are in isolation, they have servants and security that are still interacting with others. The Queen must be having a meltdown.

    ReplyDelete

    For those:

    Trump tweeted about it.

The media hates Trump enough that someone will probably investigate whether this is true or not. Pull a Freedom For Information Act request, maybe.

And the headlines can gloat about it "Trump lies and US government/Cali government pays $x dollars to Meghan and Harry's security" or confirm Trump is telling the truth and list that Harry is rich, his father and grandmother are rich and Harry could pay for his own security or go back to the UK where security is built into the Royal lifestyle.

I'll continue to tweet reporters and Cali politicians to be sure the taxpayers of Cali aren't footing the bill for these two idiots. Cali has a lot of poor people living on the streets, a lot of working poor, a lot of middle class people who are struggling. There is no need to waste monetary resources on an ex-Prince and his Z-list wife.

It does make some sense too since CA (pop 39.5 million) has 6,204 cases as of 5pm Sunday while Canada (pop 37.5 million) has as many (6,280) over the whole, far less densely populated country!

Besides, apparently the US is jealous of real star power, and are worried about being outshined by Meg and Harry. The US has a new power couple and the American people just need to wake to it and utilize them appropriately.

Also, Meg and Harry have already been invited to the White House, and Camp David. The Supreme Court has asked Meg to give a speech about the important issue of word salad humanitarianism.

The US should feel privileged to host this couple.

These people and their son are prime kidnapping targets. I remember when J Paul Getty III was kidnapped, and his pathologically cheap grandfather didn't want to pay the ransom. The guy was lucky he only lost his ear to the kidnappers. This is a very dangerous situation, and Meghan was stupid to even consider it.

  62. Studio54, nope. Diana got in the car with a drunk driver and didn’t wear her seatbelt. Happens all the time, and, yes, people die when drunk drivers get behind wheel, as they do when they forgo wearing seatbelts, especially when driving THAT fast, chased or not. She would have survived had she worn the seatbelt. Getty was drunk and high wandering around streets of Rome in the middle of the night when he was was snatched. Not grandpa’s fault, but, luckily, the kid survived, only to continue severely abusing drugs. Harry and Meghan were protected. They left. They wanted out of a royal family and even out of England, where protection was easier and cheaper. They wanted independence and to make their own way, supposedly. They do not HAVE to be protected by the family and country they chose to leave. But, sure, if they WANT to be protected, they can certainly afford to do so and ought to stop expecting others to foot their whims and desires. No one owes them anything. And FFS, the race card is played and stale. She isn’t the first person of color to join a European royal family, and if race were such an issue, she could have used all the available colors of emoji hands in her stupid clapping post but chose just white, much like her acting resume. Enough already with the undue entitlement and excuses. The only ones responsible for any “explosive situation” are Meghan and Harry, and sometimes even the cheapest of wealthy people must learn to reach into their own pockets.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Where are they going that they need security? The entire world is staying home. They can buy a home security camera and a dog.

  64. @Lucky Dog: Diana had to get out of the Ritz which was surrounded by paps, to try to get to Dodi's apartment. In that situation, they had a Ritz driver who was drunk. They had to gun it because they were being pursued by the paps all the way up to the crash.

They won't be allowed to have any peace in this country either, even paying for their own protection. Not with all the right wing nuts, Q cult and racists that have it in for them. And it's the perfect issue for "divide and distract" Trump, which is why he tweeted about it, red meat to his stupid base.

  66. Studio54, if they want peace, they could stay off social media. They could drop the constant PR. They could have bought a nice home somewhere away from the media hotspots. People would lose interest. But, that’s not what they want at all. They chose to go to LA,, which is the opposite of peaceful and private and hardly right wing. And regardless of how hotly Diana was pursued, there was plenty of time to fasten her seatbelt, and opting not to was a horrible, avoidable tragedy. I’d rather see Harry and Meghan learn to take actual responsibility for their lives and choices than be victims of anything.
