As recent statements come to light from years ago about this reality family and child sex abuse, it shouldn't surprise you, they just see it as fact. Whether it is the "older" generation who championed it for themselves or the younger generation who were sexually abused as children while the parents rebuffed any criticism about it allowing it to happen. Complicit. Supportive. A natural thing to happen they would say.
