Rolled $20 Bill With Narcotics Residue Found At Heath's Apartment

CBS in New York is reporting that along with the prescription drugs that were found in the apartment, police also recovered a rolled up $20 bill with narcotic residue on it.

Sources add they also found several drug packets containing an unknown substance. CBS 2 has learned these items were all listed on the official police report from the scene.

Those substances were officially vouchered, meaning they have been taken by police, listed in their initial reports, and sent to a lab for testing.

Commissioner Ray Kelly confirmed during a news conference Wednesday that the bill was found on the floor near Ledger's bed and being taken for testing. But he added there was no visible residue on the bill.

To be clear, it's still unknown whether these items belonged to Ledger, whether he even actually ingested them, or whether the substances are illegal. To see the video of this story, you can click here.

  1. I'm pretty much sick of drugs.

  2. I dare you to find a $20 bill in Manhattan that doesn't have drug residue on it.

  3. Dude was a talented druggie the only surprise is that he died. I still think he should have won Oscar for Brokeback.

  4. It was probably Lindsay's...

  5. "To be clear, it's still unknown whether these items belonged to Ledger, whether he even actually ingested them, or whether the substances are illegal."

And some people say you aren't really a lawyer. ;)

  6. mooshki that's actually from cbs news 2 in NY, not the writer here. I don't get why this writer doesn't copy & paste or simply link to the source - leaving out integral words like "POSSIBLE" in this sentence - "police also recovered a rolled up $20 bill with possible narcotic residue on it". NYPD actually said there were NO illegal substances found.

  7. I was reading through some of the reactions from celebs, and Helena Christenson made a remark like "I was on my over there (to his apartment) when I found out."
I'm not implying that Heath wasn't doing drugs, but it is possible that he wasn't the one who ingested them. The chances of that seem slim though. Toxicology reports take at least a week, right?

@ Heather: Thanks for clearing that up!

  8. Toxicology should take a week to ten days. There's a slim chance that he didn't ingest any, but how many people just have them laying around in case company stops by? He had a history of hard drugs, and he sadly od'ed. Too many substances will kill you eventually, maybe some of the people shocked by his death (meaning other celebs) will start to see this is where all of those drugs lead to.

  9. Other celebs won't get any meaning out of Heath's death. Addicts are addicts. They don't read between the lines - they do them and then they're gone.

The bottom of this article is the stupidest thing I've ever read. OK I understand you have to put up your lil disclaimers to keep up the lawyer image and keep from getting sued. But we all know that "unidentifiable" substances in little packets usually isnt just some SuperCool or Pixie Sticks. And no one who doesnt actually use those substances, is going to have them around. "Its unknown whether they were his or whether he ingested them." OK I personally do not do drugs, I just smoke weed. I would never have packets of coke or E tabs just lying around, that werent mine--there'd be no reason, if I werent doing them myself. Why would they be so easily within reach and out in the open? It just doesnt make sense to me. I suppose those Hollywood parties get really freakin' wild sometimes, but who would leave behind their DRUGS? NO ONE! So unless these mysterious little packets were in a candy dish with a little note a la Alice in Wonderland that says "Take Me"...I just aint buyin' it.

  11. LOL Trix -
that reminds me of when Marilyn Manson was battling rumors that he was giving out drugs to his audience. He said something like "if I have any drugs, I'm not giving them away for free. I'm going to be taking them myself"

  12. brenda yeah this all sounds like a game of telephone gone way bad. A poster pointed out this article was from cbs news2, the lawyer didn't write the disclaimer & really got things wrong when copying. It was an 'unknown' substance and they (cops) reported that NO illegal drugs were found.

  13. weird. they just said on the news that there were NOT any illegal drugs found, even on the rolled up $20.

  14. kory- I agree, I thought ALL bills since the 70's had drug residue on them!
jax- I love you, and agree with 99% of what you say, but weed is drugs love... wish it weren't, but it is (this per rehab)

I'm not going to get into an argument on whether or not weed is a drug, cause we all have our opinions and it'd detract from the subject of this thread.

  18. We'll have to agree to disagree then. BC it does in some people. Perhaps you're blessed not to be an addict. But I've seen people lie and do insane things to get weed (and food, food addictions are real), in my opinion anyway. My husband nearly died from drug addiction and weed is where it started...its harder and harder to get that high and weed was all he wanted for years. Believe me, it was quite physical as well as mental. But I respect your opinion. If you're NOT an addict you wouldn't understand at all.

  19. Takeme2espana- honest mistake! lol

oh and not to get into it but they ask you whenever you are admitted to a hospital for anything..i told them i smoked weed and that was it and the nurse laughed "no sweetie we mean real drugs, unless you are lacing it with cocaine the medical profession doesn't it recognize it as a street drug"

    good enough for me.IMO.
of course this is in Canada.

  20. very true TAkeme2espana..weed can be a gateway drug, but for moi (and many people)i have never done any other drugs ever..not even shrooms.
    no desire.

    anyway..afterschool special over.

  21. You, are obviously not an addict..rejoice! ;)
I have to say, that is an odd thing for a nurse to say..considering what this thread IS about!
Love your avatar, thought of it today when a 'asshat' came my way, I pictured them with the ears/hat-LOL!

  22. They are now reporting that there was NO drug residue on the rolled up bill and they did not find any illegal narcotics in the house. My guess is a bad combo of sleeping/anxiety pills and maybe alcohol. But we won't know until tox comes back.

  23. I smoked weed for many years and stoppe due to a tiny crazy episode BUT, I was able to stop with no phisical side effects such as you would get with other drugs because weed does not affect you that way. I never tried anything else because I know that if I liked it as much as I liked weed I would be hooked and that scared me because of what I've heard about drugs like coke, crack, heroin, etc., Still I don't think weed is a gateway drug, addiction itself is the gateway. BTW, when I smoked weed I would have my little bags out and about the house unless I knew someone was coming by, and you can roll a joint with a bill, and/or use it as a crutch. Just saying since it says there were no illegal substances on the bill.

  24. Something I read on another site. This is Gemma Ward's mom speaking:
"I anticipate (Gemma) will be coming home for the premiere of the movie The Black Balloon but she will probably attend an event in Los Angeles at the end of the week with (Ledger's) father."
Enty, do you know if there's something scheduled here in town for Heath at the end of this week? Or maybe it's bogus reporting, too.

  25. Page Six is reporting that he is going to be buried in Perth. Very good. And that it's a memorial service that's going to be here end of the week.

  26. when i first read that news story on this being found in his apt, i rolled my eyes.

i remember there being some sort of mythbusters thing wherein they confirmed that all dollar bills usually have some sort of narcotics residue because they're handled by a large amount of people and that this includes drug users. they also proved that it wasn't enough to get someone arrested for possession.

  27. You're a shitbag, EL.

  28. I think it kind of sucked that all day long yesterday they talked about the $20 and the drug residue. It was implied that he was doing drugs and blah, blah, blah...Maybe he was and maybe he wasn't but they should have waited until they h ad the facts to plaster it all over the news. He's has a family and young fans. All this speculation bothers me. The gossip sites are just that: gossip. People are going to talk but the major news outlets just keep getting deeper and deeper into the gray area by trying to beat eachother to the punch and reporting on speculation.

  29. Why did the masseuse call Mary Kate Olsen first? That is so suspicious. At least that is what's being reported now.
