Your Turn

So, do you remember back in the day when there were like three networks and no cable? Yeah, well I remember that if you ever wanted to watch cartoons the only time to do it really was on Saturday mornings. Oh, sure some UHF station might show some before you went to school, but that wasn't any fun because you kept looking at the clock so you wouldn't be late. Now, with cable and videos and DVD's, you can watch cartoons 24/7. I still think the old ones are the best and I will find myself watching Boomerang late at night watching Scooby Doo cartoons from like 40 years ago. Maybe you like the newer cartoons and the old ones are too cheesy. So, today. Your favorite cartoon of all time.

  3. Bugs Bunny is still my favorite. He was my idol until I grew up and realized that he was Paul Lynde in disguise...

  4. Woody Woodpecker (& Chilly Willy)
    Scooby Doo
    The Jetsons

  5. Favorite of all time is probably The Animaniacs, which I watched in college. I can watch it now and still laugh. But my sentimental favorite is probably Scooby Doo. I had a crush on Shaggy.

  6. While the old Looney Tunes and MGM cartoons were great (still love those "House of Tomorrow" and "Farm of Tomorrow" cartoons), my absolute nostalgic favorite is Scooby Doo (the first series "Where Are You" and the 2nd one with all the "famous guest stars" - NO SCRAPPY DOO). I can't help it - I LOVED those cartoons, even with the crappy animation and the same storyline over and over again.

  7. ed, i wanted gargamel to capture and kill every smurf. i've gotten "slightly" better now due to therapy, but i can't watch them for more than five minutes, or i'll relapse into that dark abyss. just kidding, but i never liked the little blue people.

  18. Scooby Doo! Where Are You?!

    Zoinks! T-t-th-th-there's a ghost!

I too, had a crush on Shaggy...mostly the episodes with Casey Kasem's voice.

    "Hoboken?!"

    "You might, Rabbit, you might".

    Definitely Bugs Bunny.

  20. Fave cartoon of all time would have to be ummmmmm I guess Speed Racer but Superfriends runs a close second. Damn ... Superfriends ... now that takes me back ... like back to when I loved the taste but couldn't stand to eat Sugar Pops because they were too big for my mouth. LOLs

Nicole: I had a crush on Shaggy too! What was THAT about?

  26. Oh crap, no way I can possibly narrow this one down AT ALL.

Pinky & the Brain, The Tick, Space Ghost, Roadrunner, Inspector Gadget (my phone ringtone!), Scooby Doo, Batman, Batman Beyond, He-Man (it was god-awful, but I never missed an ep!), Schoolhouse Rock, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Underdog, Animaniacs, Super Friends, Justice League...

Can we do nighttime ones? Simpsons, Futurama, South Park...

Not technically cartoons, but I can't leave out Fraggle Rock, The Muppets, and Wallace & Gromit.

Tom & Jerry forever. But only the old ones.

I also love the great old MGM cartoons.

My cartoon era was Saturday mornings in the late 70's, but I loved the older stuff then, too.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Flintsones and original Looney Tunes. I am crazy enough to own an animation cel from my favorite Looney Tunes, "Feed the Kitty", the cartoon where the bulldog, Marc Anthony, hides the kitten he found from his owner.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I can't believe I forgot Underdog-- I still have an Underdog plate & sheets--my brother was totally compulsive on that show & got hit by a car when he was 3--he dropped his Underdog book in the street, & ran back to get it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Battle of the (G-Force), Astro Boy, Voltron (the Lion one), Ulysses 31, Jem.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I remember when there was no overnight TV and they'd play the Star Spangled Banner and it was adios. I must have a memory from the time I was born.

I remember watching Space Ghost and we'd make forts out of our blankets before the parents got up. It always kinda scared me when the announcer said "Spaaaaaace Ghoooooost."

I still remember watching The Flintstones on my bff's new color TV. I liked The Flintstones and Jetsons.

All time favorites though have to go to H.R. Puff N Stuff and Lidsville.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Count Duckula, Sharky and George, Pingu, Rugrats and The Jetsons...

They really dont make em like they used to. Maybe if they did, children would be stuck to the TV instead of going out joyriding and getting knocked up. Lesser of two evils, i guess.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pixie and Dixie! George of the Jungle (watch out for that TREE),Superchicken, and my all-time fave: Underdog...ohhhhh Underdog, Underdog!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Clue Club

    road runner
    jetsons
    bullwinkle

saturday mornings used to be a magical time, every kid in the country glued to the tv in their jammies until noon or until your mom threw you out of the house.
in comparison sunday mornings sucked ass, all we had was davey & goliath, but we watched it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous1:30 PM

I'm a dork: Thundarr the Barbarian.

Though I'd have to say the Tiny Toon Adventures/Animaniacs! hour block we had for awhile was tons better than the 2 hours of afternoon Disney. (Though I still wish I had a copy of the Pop Top Cult episode of Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers.)

And I gave up my early childhood singing career because of Muppet Babies (choir practice was on Saturday mornings).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bobby's World, The Rugrats, The Jetsons..oh and PEPPER ANN!

    Ah, to rewind time..

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't honestly think I could pick just one. lol

Original Spiderman (my kids gave me the entire series box set - best Christmas ever)
    Simpsons
    Bugs Bunny
    Flintstones
    American Dad
    Scooby Doo

    ReplyDelete
  40. Even though they were made decades before I was born, I like the Silly Symphonies and Merrie Melodies cartoons. I was little and didn't really get the racial stuff, but I did like the dancing movie stars, I even recognized a couple of them, like Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. There was a gambling squirrel, which I really liked, but can never find now.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The Banana Splits....it was like variety hour for kids ; some cartoons, some standup schtick (in costume) etc.....also loved Magilla Gorilla and Tom & Jerry!

  47. I grew up in Sweden, and any Swede from my generation (born in the 70's) knows that WATCHING CARTOONS IS A SPECIAL OCCASION, and it only happens on Tuesday nights and Christmas eve! It's different now, of course, kids there now have all the same TV shows you guys do, but when I was little, there was cartoons on TV on Tuesday nights - "Animated Pearls" (as in "gems") and it was most always Tom & Jerry. On Christmas Eve, which is when Swedes celebrate Christmas, there was a Disney Special on. Still is, every year, at 3 pm, and all of Sweden STOPS. Everyone has to watch Donald Duck & Friends. There were short segments from different Disney movies, like the dress-making scene from Cinderella, an old Donald Duck/ Mickey Mouse/ Goofy segment where they go camping, The spaghetti scene from "Lady and the Vagabond", etc. My favourite was always "Ferdinand". You know, the bull who doesn't want to fight the toreador, but would rather sit underneath his oak tree and smell the flowers. Love it.

  48. Anything involving comic books, such as Legion of the Superfriends, X-men cartoons and such

    ReplyDelete

And, of course, Bugs. Espescially loved the one where Elmer is after them and they do the Barber of Seville bit....ah, memories.

Hated almost all other cartoons though. Was more of a Sesame Street or Electric Company kid.

    ReplyDelete
  52. OH!!!! And from a totally creepy factor .. a fave was Clutch Cargo ... those lips! I had nightmares about those! I think they showed it on "Garfield Goose" or the show with Ray Rayner and Cuddly Duddly on WGN. [I grew up in West Suburban Chicago in the early 70s.]

    ReplyDelete
  53. I loved, loved, LOVED all of the Charlie Brown Specials but my all-time secret crush was Johnny Quest. Of course, now I see all of the homosexual overtones (hmmm... exactly what WAS Race Banner's relationship with Dr. Quest?????) and that's a realy crush-killer! Farewell, my Johnny!

Anyway, thanks for a great question!

She is the one! Sailor Moon!

    ReplyDelete
  56. My favorite cartoon character - Marvin the Martian. No contest.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Tom and Jerry, my favorite episode being the one where Tom dreams he dies and goes to heaven and has to make Jerry sign a truce so he can get in. I actually have that recorded on VHS somewhere.

But technically, since it's animated, I guess my favorite cartoon of all time is Family Guy. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thundercats....HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hi hon! Fancy meeting you here. And LOL at your comment.

    ReplyDelete
  59. smurfs, strawberry shortcake (i would call her traberry shortcake and had everything traberry hehehe), rainbow bright, gloworms and my little pony when that finally came out.

smurfs 1st and formost...oh there was also some pink and white dog (something puppy) which i could only rent from the video store as a beta cassette (and as a silly child I would keep renting it over and over hoping my vcr would finally take it), fraggle rock and the gummy bears.

believe it or not, I didn't watch much tv.

one last fav was watching loony toons early saturday morning and my dad and i would eat jif peanut butter on toast like it was our religion.

    ahhhhh good memories.

after this post, you will mostly notice that i am an 80s child.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. oh btw guys...my "grandpa" Bob (long story) was the original creater and artist for Tom and Jerry. I wish I wasn't lazy and could figure out how to scan and import the originals into my post so you all could see what they looked like. the mouse ended up the same but the cat is somewhat different.

he's a cool guy who led (and is still living in a retirement home in Fallbrook CA) and incredible life :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh, yeah, I guess my current favourite is Family Guy. Then again, it's really the only one I watch on a regular basis.

    ReplyDelete

    Flinstones

    Magilla Gorilla
The Muppet Babies (I really couldn't get enough of them)

    ReplyDelete
  67. jungle007 ~ I was excited to read what you said ~ I STILL have my plastic traberry shortcake plate set I got when I was 3 or so and everyone in my family know not to touch or use it. the dinner plate (which is teeny btw) is my official pizza plate. thinking about my traberry room and associated things brings back great memories. too bad the new strawberry shortcake looks like an anorexic hooker

    ReplyDelete
  68. josie and the pussycats

    the smurfs
    jem

    ReplyDelete
  69. oh man...too hard to call...

  70. Tom & Jerry....they actually showed them smoking and shooting guns back then, it wasn't a big deal I didn't think. Everything is so censored now!!!

Oh and The Jetsons and Inspector Gadget

    ReplyDelete
  71. i am a princes----the pink and white dog was "Poochie" I loved that one too!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Tom & Jerry
    Mighty Mouse
    Bugs Bunny

Then later on in childhood, I could not do without Garfield & Friends (US Acres)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh-- the best were the old Scooby Doos, and Speed Racer. But the best of the best was The Jetsons.

What's funny is we are living the Jetsons now. Instant everything - press a button on the wall and there is dinner!!

Another old standby, but not a cartoon, was Lost in Space. Robot, where are you now?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Me thinks we are showing our ages here... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Now that I've actually read everyone else's favorites, I have a few to add:
    Most definitely The Smurfs!
    He-Man AND She-Ra
    TRANSFORMERS!!!
Remember the WWF cartoon? I freaking loved Captain Lou Albano...

    ReplyDelete
  76. All time? Easily the classic MGM cartoons, original and unedited.
(By that I mean all the violence and stereotypes intact, not censored by the PC Police)

    ReplyDelete
  77. VOLTRON!!

Fucking Power Rangers copied that cartoon and ruined it.

Also, Captain Planet! The song is now stuck in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh! And Legend of Zelda!

    ReplyDelete
  79. And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

    And Thunder Cats!

    And...and...She-Ra!

    And Carebears!!

    And My Little Pony!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I loved Sam the sheepdog and the Coyote, who job was to steal the sheep! I loved that they had a conversation before their jobs started and ended.

Now, I love Grim Reaper cartoon, with Mandy but I am not remembering the official name.

    ReplyDelete
  81. The Herculoids!!!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Man I miss Saturday mornings and being a kid :(

    ReplyDelete
  83. Alvin & the Chipmunks, Woody Woodpecker, Smurfs, Animaniacs, Sailor Moon, and Tiny Toons were all kick ass.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Totally the Flintstones. I used to pretend I was married to Fred (in fact he is very close to my husband, loud and gets worked up easy, but is a softy deep down).

@Cheryl: the episode with Wilma and Betty as waitresses singing is one of my all time favorites!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Definitely the Flintstones, and incredibly I got many of the jokes and references.

Also loved Tom & Jerry, and one of the few people who liked the Chuck Jones era since he basically turned the show into a more back-and-forth version of the Coyote and Roadrunner.

I grew up in New England and somehow we got tons of anime from Japan. I LOVED Starblazers and Force 5. Starblazers is on DVD now but I would give anything for Force 5 on DVD, or at least Grandizer.

    ReplyDelete
  86. jungle007......i am so laughing right now!!!! yes...dvd purchased @ walmart... AND i never realized thru the years of just "listening" in the car ( yes, i had the dvd player....i had twin boys....a 5 min trip @ 3-6 years old was a nightmare!!!!!)

Jem - she is truly outragous!(have the dvds)
    The Littles

Dungeons & Dragons is my favorite Nintendo ES game of all time, but I can't find it anywhere. I've tried downloading on my Wii, but I can't find it. Sucks!

  90. ...sorry, didn't finish.....Edie Mcclurg plays a very central role in that cartoon!!!! does anyone on the East Coast remember the Banana Splits??? it was on WLVI-56, one of the only uhf stations you could get in??!!!? I know i am not crazy b/c my hubby remembes it too.......unless we did too many drugs in college..........

    ReplyDelete
  91. Ducktales, "woo-woo", all the way!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. mexi ~ THANKS!!! I loved poochie but didn't get to watch it that much because of that damn beta format. My husband knows all things audio and video (thanks film school) and i would complain to him often about not being able to see poochie and why beta had to f up my happiness. hehehehe

    ReplyDelete
  94. Looney Tunes all the way - Bugs Bunny, Pepe Le Pew, Road Runner... as a kid I wasn't crazy about the Road Runner and Wil E. Coyote, but as an adult it's now my fave.

When I'm sick, I totally revert to my childhood for comfort. Bugs Bunny, Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich made with velveeta. yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. But I'm disgusted by velveeta except when I have a bad cold.

Add Family Guy and American Dad to the mix and I'm in heaven.

    ReplyDelete
  95. your welcome! I never got to watch it a lot, i bet some site has the whole series for sale. I might have to google it now!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. jetsons, bugs bunny, top cat, casper, flintstones, tom and jerry

    ReplyDelete
  97. We still don't have cable!...
    I go waaay back:
Jetsons, Flintstones, Speed Racer, Casper, Bugs Bunny & Road Runner were Saturday morning staples in our house...Also Rocky & Bullwinkle, Mr. Magoo, Alvin & the Chipmunks!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I came back b/c I remembered my favourite cartoon growing up.

It was called "My Pet Monster". Wish I could watch it right now haha

    ReplyDelete
  99. Tiny Toons and Animaniacs are my all-time favorite cartoons, and the ones that I mourned when they were taken off the air. Batman is up there too. Though I enjoyed Smurfs, Muppet Babies, Thundercats, He-Man and She-Ra, and the other assorted cheesy 80s cartoons at the time, I've found that they are ruined when I try to watch them now as an adult. Only Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Batman have stood the test of time.

And of course, I can't forget The Simpsons and South Park (and to a lesser extent, Family Guy). They have been responsible with supplying me with many memorable and oft repeated quotes.

    ReplyDelete
  100. omg the wonder twins were my favorite!!! I always wanted a twin and loved how they turned into water or whatever it was!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  101. correct on whoever mentioned the big fall sat. morn. preview show.
    it was a big deal.
I would rearrange my sat morn channel changing schedule every fall.
to the Banana splits fans, how about h.r. puffinstuff? those creators were def. puffin stuff, its freakin hilarious looking back at what got on tv.
btw, youtube has great clips of these.
and to ms...sick, grilled cheese/campbells tomato soup/bugs bunny... are you my sister?
i kinda hope i get sick tomorrow...
kids of today have really missed out on some simple things.
how about land of the lost & their $10 budget?
how about foghorn leghorn on the bugs bunny hour, that rooster was always being nice to that little kid to try to bang his mom, hahaha, that was the whole plot every sat. Will foghorn put up with that bratty smartass kid enough to get laid??

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jeez, way too hard!

I'm 44 and still watch cartoons regularly to this day...

Marvin the Martian episodes with his "space modulator" on Bugs Bunny.

Close second would be episodes with Gossamer the giant red thing, also on BB.

  103. Who lives down in deepest darkest Africa?
    (Africa)
Who's the one who brought the jungle fame?
Who's the king of Animals in Africa?
Kimba the white lion is his name! When we get in trouble and we're in a fight
Who's the one who just won't turn and run?
Who believes in doing good and doing right?
Kimba the white lion is the one! He's the greatest leader, there's no doubt of it.
He's the one we count on night and day.
When there's danger he can get us out of it--
Kimba the white lion leads the way!

I kinda remember the banana splits. but def. hr puffnstuff.

not animated but any wonderama or big blue marble fans?

    ReplyDelete
  104. New school--The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

I dare y'all to swig a vodka & Red Bull, smoke a fat one and watch Flapjack. Freaky as hell!

ANYTHING on Adult Swim, old or new, except for anime also rocks my entire world.

And, goes w/o saying--the king of all cartoons of all time--South Park.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Bugs Bunny, hands down. A close second is the rest of the Loony Tunes gang. I find myself quoting Foghorn Leghorn and Daffy Duck a lot as an adult, inexplicably. I also liked the Flinstones. Fred Flinstone looked like my dad. And I liked Popeye. And I liked Scooby Doo before his cousin Scrappy.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Also not animated but do any of you tri-state area kids remember the Magic Garden?!? It was on WPIX.

My mom (still in NY) saw in Newsday that it just came out on DVD.

I loved that show and even went to see Paula & Carol live at the Westbury Music Fair! :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. green wave--I certainly remember the Magic Garden with Seymour the Squirrel--I didn't realize it was a local show.
anyone remeber Wonderama?---I was on when I was in 4th grade, & won Headache from Bob Mcallister. Boy I'm old.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Remember the Tarzan cartoon? Still love Bugs, Scooby with all the guest stars,Shazam/Isis,school house rock in between the shows and so so many more. When American Bandstand came on, you knew it over and had to turn the tv off and go outside.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Magic Garden?Paula? Scherlock? the chuckle patch?

Its nice to say hello (hello), hello (hello)hello and how do you do! I'm fine (me too) we're fine and how are you? I'm fine (me too) we're fine and how are you?

In the same vein - how about Wonderama with Bob McAllister?

    ReplyDelete
  110. I haaaaaaaate cartoons....maybe

    ReplyDelete
  111. ... I liked the old B&W version of 'Popeye' - Olive Oyl wasn't so skinny then and the "Goons" on Goon Island looked just like I did when I was still in high school...

... I also dug the Archies cartoon (w/ apple pie-faced Betty & my Doe-eyed Brunette cartoon Baby Doll Veronica Lodge... *sob*...), Josie & The Pussycats & the Groovie Ghoulies were kewl... pretty much any '60s/'70s cartoon show that had a band I liked...

    ReplyDelete
  112. not a famous adrian- wak a doo wack a dooo wacka doo!

was wonderama a local DC area show? That's where I watched it.

As a kid, I watched the hell out of Scooby-Doo, Fantastic Four, The Smurfs, Popeye, the Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Sylvester and Tweety, Tom and Jerry, various Yogi Bear shows, Super Friends, Captain Caaaaavemaaaaan and He-Man (WTF?).

How can you pick just one? And why the hell did I watch so much TV? Cripes. No wonder my brain is rotted.

  114. Katja--Wonderama was filmed in NY--if you saw it in DC, I guess it was either National or East Coast.
I had a friend whose family sent away for tickets years in advance.
When the tickets finally came, her youngest brother wasn't old enough to go, so they took me. Then when I got picked to do something om the show & the 3 kids in her family didn't, they all stopped talking to me! *Sigh*--pre VCR days--I wish I had a copy.

  115. Pink Panther!
    Bugs Bunny and Taz!
    Scooby Doo!
    Josie and the Pussycats!
    The Simpsons!
    The Jetsons!

  116. Charlie Brown. I know the peanuts weren't on regularly, but they still count, right?

Others not to miss included the Smurfs, Muppet Babies, Jetsons, Flinstones

  117. Amber-- thanks sooo much for reminding me of my pet monster-- he's a monster of a friend!!!! I LOVED LOVED LOVED that show too!!

princess-- i remember having all the little dolls, but i lost strawberry (i blame my evil older brother-i know it was him, that bastard was out to get me), so one of my aunts went out to replace it and got me a doll called Cherry Merry Muffin instead. I was heartbroken, but i acted like i loved it (i was eager to please as a child). My best friend totally made me feel like crap when she saw my dumb replacement doll. I was traumatized.
Looking back, I'd trade my adult problems for my childhood ones in as heartbeat.

deity2- Oh wow that's so awesome. I'm going to walmart this weekend for sure! And also on the show a few times was rodney dangerfield. i cant rememeber what character he played, but i loved the voice of bobby's mom (dontchaknow). Is the guy you mentioned the one who plays "uncle ted"? the script for that show was so brilliant to me, even at all of 8 years of age. I even still remember some of the episode songs, like "animals dont wear underpants", etc. Gotta find those DVDs.

    Great topic Ent!!

  118. wow that is so cool! what did you get to do? Do you remember the cereal freakies? Somewhere I think I still have one to the plastic toys from the cereal box.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP8mbxZBl3k&NR=1

I got lost in youtubes 60's-70's commercials. What a trip- the Frito Bandito. Good Times.

It's possible you could track it down if you really tried, it's amazing what you can find if you look hard enough. oh, wow, see I just looked up and saw Russia from my house.
    ;)

I'm trying to think about a book I read where a little boy wanted to be on a cowboy games show really bad and then his mom forgot to pick him up. I think game shows are just traumatizing vehicles of doom. To much adrenaline.

  119. I'm only 37, but when I was a kid, I would see these really old "Follow the Bouncing Ball" sing-along cartoons. Does anybody else remember them? They would use songs like "This Land is Your Land," and they were long and epic.

I totally grew up on Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera. And I LOVED "Battle of the Planets (G-Force)."

But my all-time favorite has to be The Simpsons. South Park is a current favorite as well.

Anybody remember the nauseatingly bad "Laff-a-Lympics?"

    ReplyDelete
  120. I loved those floating ball cartoons! The Frito Bandito commercial I mentioned above had a floating ball. I was going to mention it but forgot about it completley by the time I watched 15 other commercials. I'm glad you brought it up! I'm going back to watch more old tv ads!
    goodnight johnboy!

  121. Bugs Bunny. I used to get up at 4:30 every morning in high school so I could watch two shows: Breakfast Time on FX and Bugs Bunny on TNT.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Wow...Theresa, you remember that too?!?!

You and Adrian are my people!!! :) Where did you grow up?

I believe Magic Garden was only on in NY/NJ/CT but I may be wrong!

  123. As for what I actually watched when I was young, Scooby Doo, the Flintstones or the Jetsons win hands down. As for my favorite old cartoons, I love the Tex Avery "Home of Tomorrow" bit. Pretty much any Tex Avery or old Looney Toons is great.

  124. First timer, long time reader.

Robotech. I've always hoped someone would make this into a live action space opera...sans cheese, that is.

  125. green wave gal & Katja--we are obviously the same age group!!
I lived in Brooklyn until I was 12, & then moved to Nassau County.
Yes--maybe in Russia they are still watching 35 year old Wonderama episodes--I don't know where I would find mine. The cool thing was they filmed a commercial that day and scanned the whole audience, so for about 1 year everytime they showed the commercial, there I was!
Anyway it was during the Nixon years, & they interviewed kids about what they would do if they were president instead--I remember going on about not selling our wheat to other countries when we had hungry & a bunch of other stuff, & I guess it was educated enough to say on tv!
The sad thing is my grandmother had passed away a few months before, & my father went to religious services twice a day and missed it.

I seem to remember cartoons on Saturday only going until about noon--after Fat Albert we would go outside. Until then we were glued to the tv. I didn't even like Fat Albert, but it was a cartoon, & we watched it.

  126. I loved the Magic Garden but they never said my name at the beginning! And my brothers went on Wonderama and brought me back a laquered minibagel necklace that had googly eyes glued to it. The 70s were weird.

My favorite cartoon, though, was Star Blazers. It was on WPIX at 3:30.

  127. Scooby Doo
    Mun-chi-chi's
    Smurfs
    He-Man
    Transformers
    Bugs Bunny
    Jabber Jaws

  128. Holy crap, I can't believe I forgot "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist"!

  129. Pink Panther when he finds a baby in a state park.

Chip and Dale when their garden is raided and they have to go to the food processing plant.

There are some old Disney cartoon where the artist is drawing stuff and I think Goofy was in it...it was good.

The Wonderful World of Disney. 6:00pm on Sunday night. Pooh...Jungle Book, whatever it was, I watched it.

I have guilt for these because they aren't really what I wanted my kids to watch, but...I like Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Billy and Mandy, CatDog, Rin and Stimpy. Fairly Oddparents(Once, Timmy's dad was checking on sick Timmy. He said, "You are hot and green, those are the symptoms of steamed broccoli!" It was really funny when he said it.

  130. The 70's were weird, why these kids think that retro is cool I'll never understand. The clothes were, are and always will be ugly!

This link http://www.bananasplits.com/ is about the banana splits -and a possible comeback- which would last about 2 minutes imo. I do remember that show though- an yes it was out the door after the last cartoon like a shot for me to Adrian!

What was the cartoon with the squirrel in a coat> He was a spy or agent. That was good.

Gotta go the lutefisk dinner is today and the store will be busy-

  131. green wave - i grew up in ny and man, I LOVED the MG. *sigh* they dont make them like that any more

    ReplyDelete
  132. Oh, oh! Dr. Snuggles! I seem to be the only person who remembers this cartoon, but it was good! *L*

    ReplyDelete
  133. Mama Theresa & Adrian--I was born in 75 and grew up in Nassau County (mom & dad still live in the same house) but I live in Los Angeles now.

My mom couldn't believe when she saw the MG DVD announced in Newsday the other day. Another friend said it's already on Netflix!

They certainly don't make them like that anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  134. green wave--maybe we were neighbors!!
I live about a mile from where I grew up--my parents are still in their house.
BTW--Westbury Music Fair is now the Capitol One Theater at Westbury--
& The Jones Beach Theater is now Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Old School: Looney Tunes especially Bugs. Bugs is God.
The Flintstones and Josie and the Pussy Cats. I'm a red head and there were NO red heads on tv that I could remember and if you did see them they were total goofs or hookers. I had to grasp to Wilma and Josie for role models. *snort*

Current time: Family Guy with The Simpsons as a close second.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Adrian-I grew up on the border of East Meadow & Levittown. I went to Clarke HS. All the arenas have corporate sponsors...they'll always be Westbury Music Fair and Jones Beach Theater to me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Pink Panther! And my four-year-old loves it too.

I always liked those animated versions of live-action shows - I think the Brady Bunch and the Patridge Family both had them. Same as the nighttime version, except the Greg and Marcia and Peter would all be able to jump over buildings, or something.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Looney Tunes before the violence and sexual innuendo of Pépé LePew were cut ("Everyone should have a hobby, yes? Mine is making love.")

    The Osmonds
    The Jackson Five
    Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp
    The Banana Splits Show (hoohoohooHOO!)
    George of the Jungle
    Josie and the Pussycats
    Cecil and Beany
    Thunderbirds
Hercules (healer of pain and sorrow)
    Pink Panther
Roger Ramjet (I discovered it during my teen years)

One of my earliest memories was crawling down the hallway after bedtime and hiding beside the large chair in our livingroom while my brother got to stay up to watch The Flintstones. Can't say the appeal stayed with me through the years, though.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Wow Shakey-- I didn't think anyone remembered Cecil & Beany. We had a Cecil stuffed doll that came with little hats and outfits to dress up.
Last year my cousin bought the collection on CD, & I bought Underdog, & we watched them on Thanksgiving.

Green Wave--almost neighbors--I grew up in Woodbury, moved to Oceanside when I got married, & then to Syosset.
My kids are in the same schools I went to!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Still remember getting up at 6:30 to watch them. Still remember part of that rag top song.

Rag top doodeleedoo doodoodoo Rag top
    R-A-G-G-M-O-P-P
    RAGMOPPPP!

  141. ...it was a little one-off from the 1960's that aired along with the Tom and Jerry cartoons. It was called "The Dot and the Line: a Romance in Lower Mathematics." Just the cutest thing ever.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Adrian-that's really close. My mom's best friend and her family lived in Syosset so we were there quite frequently. :)

  143. Green Wave--where are you now?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Adrian-I live in Los Angeles (been here 11+ years) but my parents still live in the same house I grew up in. I moved here right after college (in New Orleans).

  145. oh--you really went far!!!

    ReplyDelete
  146. Adrian-I know. I can't believe it myself sometimes. I moved here for a 1-year masters program and then got a job and then went back to school for my PhD and then got a job again--all here at UCLA! I never imagined I'd be here all this time. :)
