Another Extreme Makeover Home Close To Foreclosure

I think this makes house #4 from the show or maybe 5 that have had some kind of issues relating to foreclosure. Unlike most of the others, this one though doesn't appear to be the home owner's fault. The house in trouble this time was actually the most viewed episode of the show. The couple is deaf and Ty and the gang came in to remodel the home so it would be better for their blind, autistic son. Wow. I didn't see this one but I'm already teary eyed.

The mortgage payment on their old home was about $1300. After the show, the couple were forced to refinance their home. No, it wasn't for some crazy get rich quick scheme. It was because autism treatment isn't covered by insurance and the Vardon family didn't have the $20,000 in bills for it they rung up. They should call Jenny McCarthy. Her son is cured right? So, she can spend what she was going to spend on him and give it to other families who still have children with autism. Anyway, dad Larry got laid off for a little while, and then their was special medical treatments their son needed in addition to the autism treatment and so they got behind on their monthly mortgage payments. Larry, who works for Chrysler is having a tough time right now because he worries everyday he is going to be laid off.

The family is currently working with a group that tries to get lower mortgages for people who are in a bind. I really hope it works out for them.

  1. Good Lord. I swear, I want to bury my head in the pillows most days anymore.

Poor people. Is there a site or fund we can contribute to?

  2. At the risk of sounding rude, THESE are the type of people who should be getting money--not the multitudes of boring, self-absorbed humans who keep getting shoved in front of my face constantly as a pitiful excuse for "reality TV".

After all, sounds like what these poor folks are going through is the true 'reality' these days.....and I'd much rather watch to see how they do that some eedjit who needs a good smack upside the head because they aren't in touch with any KIND of reality.

Sorry...can you tell I'm all grouchy today??? ;)

  3. I Know, hearing stuff like this just really saddens me, why does bad stuff happen to good people?

  4. I live in WA state and one of the houses that EM did-the Mom and kids are having to sell the house. It seems that the Mom and Dad got a divorce and Dad moved out of state. According to the divorce, the house has to be sold and the money split between dad and mom-did I mention that Dad does not even live up here anymore? So now, this family is not only having to sell this great house-but the kids and mom have to move now.
Sadness, just like this family and their kids.

  5. maybe EHM needs to start building realistic homes that are affordable once that bus rolls away. i saw this one and the blind son if i remember correctly had a whole apartment built for him and it was HUGE.

enough EXTREME, how about realistic and affordable? oh ya becasue thats how it gets paid for by product placement.

  6. The real "reality" is when the tax assessor comes knocking on the door. They should leave the families with an account to draw on to actually afford to live in the new McMansions they build.

  7. That is a sad story--hopefully they will get the help they need, both medically & finacially.
I do have to agree with Jax.
The show realistically needs to look at what a family can carry.

  8. I agree, Jax....more than once I've watched and thought "Wow, that house is killer! Wonder how they're gonna pay the property tax on it?" It's not right to make people so happy and then yank the rug out from under 'em like that.

  9. It's like when people win cars on game shows. Unless you're already well off, the smart thing to do is to sell it off as soon as you can, and buy yourself something cheap.

  10. Yep, I'll take that year's supply of Turtle Wax and run, Pat Sajak! That way, no pesky property taxes to chalk out for the fancy 'Vette I just won.

  11. Wow people with autistic children need government assistance. I wish we had more social welfare programs and less tax cuts for the wealthy. Can't wait 'til Obama gets in office.

  12. That's a heartbreaker. But Jax is right; EHM builds houses that are about four times larger than most families need. How do you heat and cool a place that size, let alone pay the property taxes?

  13. Even with the changes that will - hopefully - be forthcoming with the Obama administration .. more often than not .. I really hate how much this country sucks. These folks are in a mess because - in essence - they have insufficient health care insurance. I am very shortly to be in a mess myself for the same fucking reason. Ugh ..

I am with Selenakyle .. where are my godamned pillows?

  14. OH! And $1300 for a mortgage payment is pretty reasonable, guys, IMHO. I am at $2200 myself.
