Paula Blames American Idol

It was probably just by accident that Barbara Walters finally had a good interview with someone. I mean you throw enough darts at the board and one is going to hit the bulls eye, and she did. Barbara interviewed Paula Abdul on her radio show yesterday and got some revealing details about the stalker who killed herself in front of Paula's house.

Apparently the woman had been stalking Paula for years and years but had no idea how to reach her directly. Paula had restraining orders against the woman intermittently over the years. When Paula was told that Paula Goodspeed was going to audition for Season 5 of the show, Paula begged the producers not to let her. She even told the producers all of the details of why she didn't want Goodspeed to audition. According to Paula, the producers wanted the "entertainment value" of someone like Goodspeed – despite the potential peril – because it would "be fun for them to cause me stress."

Goodspeed then auditioned for Season 6 as well. It was after one of the auditions from season 6 that Goodspeed managed to follow Paula home and find out where she lived. After that, Goodspeed began sending letters and naked photos to Paula and also threatened Paula with bodily harm.

When Paula was asked why after all of this she stayed at American Idol, Paula said, "Well, I'm under contract."

I guess maybe she won't be renewing that contract.

Didn't Paul A. have enough reason to sue the show??

Hm, if she's "blaming" AI, then she has ever reason to. They blatantly went against her wishes and what's best for her personal safety. They didnt care, they just wanted the ratings. And now look how it turned out. They gave that girl a way to get at Paula. As much as I hate celebrities, that was in extremely poor form.

  4. You'd think that after the whole Jenny Jones fiasco that these shows would think twice when dealing with people on the edge.

  5. If this is true I would think both Paula and the nutcase's family should sue.

And not to be petty, but is anyone else bothered by that saggy side boob in that picture? Not flattering.

  6. Paula doesn't care about AI anymore. She's doing Dancing With the Has-Beens next season, so it was clear she wouldn't be sticking around much longer.

I'm sure Paula stays on for the paycheck more than anything else.

  8. Ding dong, the dingbat is gone. The bell started ringing publicly as soon as Simon brought in that other woman. No matter how much they all said that they were just a happy foursome, we all knew that Paula would be staggering out the door.

This statement just proves it--Paula throws AI under the bus (although it seems that AI happily threw her under first, and endangered two lives in the process). Unbelievable on AI's part, and terribly irresponsible. I never thought I'd type these words, but uh, I feel sorry for Paula.

  9. JJ, heh heh, I was also gonna say something snarky about Paula's poor mangled boobs, but with that girl being dead an all...

It's pretty horrible to think that your boss would let your stalker into the workplace just to see you get frazzled.

  11. Honestly, I think the producers just didn't think much of it. The amoutn of crazy people who audition for that show each year is staggering. There are stalker-crazy people and then there's people who think they are going to be the next American Idol even though they have never had a singing lesson or performed in public in their lives. What we see in the crap collage every season is just a small percentage of all the nutbags they get in there. I think it would be hard to distinguish one form another. And I'm sorry, but if Paula Abdul told me someone was stalking her, I would assume she was high. It would turn out she was right, but she is still a fairly incoherent person.

Wouldn't that be enough to get her out of her contract? Disturbing.

  14. Whatever. All I have to say is this: I already hate the new female host. Paula's incomprehensible banshee warblings MAKE that show, and I'm jumping the AI ship if she does.

I would think it is...but does Paula know this? Let's face it, she is not the most...mentally aware person in the world, and I suspect that she does not have anyone in her corner looking out for her enough to inform her of this. OTOH I'm also recalling the Corey Clark fiasco from season 4, and depending on whether or not she was actually guilty of being involved with him on any level it may not have been in her best interest at any point (maybe not even now) to try to sue her way out of the contract, else the show may have pulled out that trump card, exposed her own dirty doings, and dumped her without owing her a cent.

Regardless, this whole story is a shame. I also think the new judge was brought in as an eventual replacement, and as much as it may be about the money for her, I actually wouldn't doubt that Paula wanted out of the contract as much as the show probably was itching to replace her.

  16. Ernestine, I agree. I don't watch it much at all, but when I do, it's to see what crazy sh*t she's going to say or do next.

  17. Without Paula, AI would be a boring nothing.

She may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but she was the only judge who showed up at rehearsal to say hi to the audience last year at one of the shows. She walked right into the middle of the crowd that stands in front of the stage and shook as many hands as she could.

She is truly kind and endearing and in her profession need not be too intelligent.

She's not teaching at MIT, folks!

  18. Wow I heard in an interview with Ms. Abdul that Fox even drove the stalker to her house. I hope those producers get what they deserve.
