Today's Blind Items
While shooting on the set of their latest movie, these two stars have a completely different way of interacting with their fans. Well, I should say one interacts with fans, and one pretends she cannot see or hear them. Our B+ list movie actor usually plays the fun guy and it seems that when he is filming it is the exact same way. He spends most of the time in between takes speaking with fans, taking pictures and talking the entire time. Our A+ list actress on the other hand spends her time in between takes as far away from the fans as possible and has absolutely nothing to do with them. She is very good at pretending not to hear them or see them.

Reese and whoever the guy is in her new softball movie. Just saw a pic of them yesterday and looked like deep down she hates him, too (along with all the other actors she's hated who've been in her moves).

I can't criticize the actress too much. Depending on her working style, she might need to stay in character in between takes. It's not that easy for some of them to snap in and out of character. My brother worked on a soap for awhile (crew member) and said it was about 50/50 for those who could joke around and perform two minutes later and those who couldn't.

ReplyDeleteSaw Gerard Butler on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, Brooklyn last Wednesday filming the new Jen Aniston flick "Bounty". Walked right by him while he was taking pictures with the fans, but everyone said Aniston was nowhere to be seen, except when it was time for her shot.
Would've stopped for a snap myself had I not been DESPERATE to get to bathroom ASAP. Damned IBS!

Not to excuse the actress, since it's fans that make her famous, but if everywhere you go, people are looking at you and trying to get your attention, tuning them out can become a defense mechanism just to get through your day. Depending on the person, that's not something you can turn on and off easily.
ReplyDeleteI know because I used to live in a country where being very tall and very pale-skinned white made me stand out and be the center of attention almost everywhere I went, and while it can be fun for a while, it gets really old. I've gotten so I can walk down a crowded street where everybody's looking at me and can pretend like nobody else exists, just because if I didn't do it, all of the attention would make me go nuts.
I was going to say Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams, because they are the only ones i could remember were filming currently.

ReplyDeleteI understand how actors do like/need to stay in character offscreen sometimes, but I'm assuming (let me know if I'm wrong) that it's a comedy, and not demanding that specific kind of preparation.
I don't think Bullock, Kidman or even Aniston would qualify as A+, at least not anymore. A list for Aniston, maybe Kidman (although she's kind of fallen off the map). B+ probably for Bullock. I think Reese and Paul Rudd fit best. Now, ask me where I'd like to fit Paul Rudd... ;-)

Liev COULD be considered a B+... he's well-regarded and has a celebrity wife, etc...

ReplyDeleteI gotta say, I think the whole "talking with fans" thing is overrated. While it looks like fun and games, acting can be difficult for some people. Getting into character isn't easy, and blocking out everything in order to make the scene work involves (for some actors) a complete cocoon of focus. For others, more gregarious, it's just showing up and saying lines. I'm inclined to give an actor a free pass on her or his approachability between takes.

ReplyDeleteAgree w/ RDJ and Goopy....she's automatic A+ with the oscar, and he's def B+ with oscar noms and hit movies....both currently filming Iron Man 2, I believe, at least they were within the last couple of weeks.

ReplyDeleteI don't think that somebody who tried to commit suicide would still be called a "fun guy" on the set.
ReplyDeletePaul Rudd has done some TV, as a guest star especially on "Friends", but he's mostly a movie actor. B+ would fit him perfectly. He can't open a movie on his own ("Role Models" had Sean William Scott as a co-star, "I Love You Man" Jason Segel) but he definitely brings something to an ensemble and he was in LOTS of sleeper hits.

ReplyDeleteEverything I've ever read about GB is that he's very open, gregarious and friendly to fans. He's also known to be a very funny guy.
I know this is too old to be the answer to this blind... Anyway, four years ago a scene from The Break-up was being filmed out in the plaza outside my office building, and, of course, we stalked the set on our break.
ReplyDeleteWe found Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston taking a break together under a canopy. Vince couldn't have been friendlier -- he talked about the film, answered questions, etc. Meanwhile Jen, who was sitting right next to him, completely ignored us! Even when someone called out her name. (We weren't the only ones stalking the set, lol). This was also when they were "dating." They didn't look too friendly to me.
@lux: I don't see how Janniston could possibly be A+, or even A-, for that matter; that girl has such a string of stink-ass movies in her resume, I'd be surprised if she's above a B. (Has anyone here heard of "Management," let alone seen it? So many of her movies just blow right by without anyone noticing.) And if anyone notices her movies, it's because they're just plain awful. "Marley and Me" is the obvious exception, of course, but try to name another exception. It's always terrible, horrible stuff like "Rumor Has It," "Friends with Money," "Along Came Polly," and other shitty stuff no one sees (though I admit to seeing all of it because I'll watch nearly anything on cable). Holy crap; she has a talent for picking the worst scripts that rivals Halle Berry's.

I just heard Michael Jackson had a heart attack. The report said he was not breathing when the paramedics arrived. i just saw it on the news.

ReplyDeleteThere are very few A+ actresses, I think: Reese, Angelina, Cameron Diaz, Jodie Foster and Julia Roberts. Possibly also Nicole Kidman, depending on how you define A+ (she has critical success, makes big money, but very poor return on investment for producers.) Aniston A+? GTFO. Sandra Bullock? Maybe 5 years ago.

ReplyDeleteJennifer Aniston is definitely A list, I don't know about Ent's criteria but she won an Emmy, was married to Brad Pitt and has had two very successful movies in the last year, even if one was an ensemble.

ReplyDeleteAgain, Enty doesn't give Anniston the A+ designation. In every film, she always plays the same role. For me, I guess she's A-/B+. I think her behavior toward fans fits but don't think this is her.

ReplyDeleteHm....I was thinking about Reese and Rudd, however, he doesn't usually play fun guy in his movies, he seems nice and approachable, but his private life is pretty private. When I reread the blind, I saw "on the set of THEIR LATEST MOVIE". It made me think they've worked together before. RDJ usually "plays the funny" and, it's been documented, he jokes around with the paps, etc. offscreen as well. Meanwhile, the Goopster is A+ (having won an Oscar and being of Hollywood royalty to boot) can't even see that not everyone has the GOOP lifestyle, so her not "hearing" them doesn't shock me. She's out of touch, and only gives what she wants, when she wants, how she wants.

ReplyDeletePaul and Reese (Owen and Jack, too) have been filming here in DC. Paul has been amazing and hanged out in the bar a few nights ago after shooting. Reese kind-of was just whisked away. Considering I've seen with my own eyes how they've react to the fans/onlookers, I'll say those two. :)
