Peter Gabriel Is Being An Ass

Am I the biggest fan of Genesis in the world? Umm, no. But I am a fan and I know there are millions of people who are big fans of the group. I also know there are going to be millions of these fans who are going to be really disappointed that Peter Gabriel is acting like a prima donna. How? Well, in two months Genesis is getting inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. This of course would be the perfect time for the group to reunite. Unfortunately Peter doesn't want to. In fact he is being such a jerk he says he might not even be able to make it to the show. Why? Not a wedding or surgery or trapped in the Arctic. He instead will be rehearsing for his upcoming solo tour. Rehearsing. Not performing. “I’m trying to find a way to do it,” he says. “It’s not easy. If I can work it out, I’ll go.”

It is one night two months from now and he has known about the date even longer than that. I don;t care if the group reunites permanently but don't you think people can act like adults and give their fans what they want? These guys didn't make the Hall Of Fame solely because of their talent. They made it because their fans bought tons of records and went to their concerts and made them famous. I hate hate people who forget their fans. It is one f**king night. Give the people back something they gave you in the first place. Go up on stage and play for three or four songs. Then go your separate ways. Are you going to deprive people who paid you millions and millions of dollars their fun? Are you such a self-centered ego driven can't forgive for ten minutes kind of person that you would disappoint all those people?

  2. I agree 1,000%, Enty.

Goes for all of them, not just Gabriel.

  3. I think he's envious that the group did better financially after he left. This is his little "tit for tat".

  4. considering the group was MUCH more successful after he left, who cares?

Peter Gabriel's solo career is what really made him famous, IMO.

  6. Genesis was better without him, and he's always been way better without Genesis.

  7. I like his music but don't care for him as a person at all.

  8. I've got to agree with Parissucks = as a kid I didn't even realise he was in Genesis once upon a time. He was the Sledgehammer man.

  9. Induct the E Street Band instead.

  10. I bet Phil will be there, grinning and having a good time just like he always did. LOL! I love that man!

  13. I lived in Australia for several years. I used to see Phil Collins on tv all the time. Imagine my surprise when I saw Genesis in Seattle and there was Phil Collins. I always thought of him as a solo act. And yes, Genesis was better off without the narcissistic personality disorder.

  14. I don't know. I met Mike Rutherford a few years ago and he was a COLOSSAL ass. Maybe Peter just doesn't want to be around HIM. Hee hee hee!

  15. You people are quick to judge.

I'm not surprised Gabriel doesn't feel enthusiastic about a reunion with the band members who treated him like shit back in the day.

  17. Momus, I don't blame him for that, but I agree it would be a nice thing to do for the fans.

Gabriel has always been open about how Rutherford and he didn't get on, Gabriel felt bullied and unable to articulate his feelings with the band. It's obvious he was stiffled in Genesis from how prolific and successful he was almost immediately after the departure. If he's there, great. If he isn't it doesn't detract from what a great band Genesis was both with Gabriel and Collins as lead.

  20. Yes, some definitely sour grapes.

That being said, I didn't even know Gabriel was in Genesis. So there you have it.

  21. I had heard many, many years ago there were "issues" between those guys (some article I read many years ago in "Hit Parader"), so I'm not really surprised he probably won't be there. At least he came up with SOME sort of excuse. And while I'm not a Phil Collins fan at all, Genesis was definitely more popular when he was with them. All that being said, regarding Genesis being inducted into the Hall of Fame - meh...

  22. Enty, you summed that up PERFECTLY. Well said!

  23. Didn't he have some sort of surgery on a dislocated vertebrae (sp?), and had to teach himself how to play the drums again?

  24. I love Peter and his music .. but Jesus! He is SUCH a ego maniac. It has gotten worse with age, too, I have noticed.

As for Genesis .. I think the stuff prior to about 1982 was amazing but once Phil Collins became the leader of the group .. Hell No!

I will celebrate the induction of that Genesis and not the Mike and Tony get lead around by the nose by Phil Collins one.

  25. You know what? Fuck him. If he doesn't want to show up, oh well. I'd rather want someone who wants to show up and give it their all to perform their songs than some self absorbed twat "grace us with his presence" and phone his performance in. Fuck him, fuck him right in the ass. Stay home asshole. When was the last time he had a hit anyway? In this economy, good luck selling music Pete.

  26. As it was said before - Genesis in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?? Gabriel has done far more on his own, including his own label and one of the best love songs ever, "In Your Eyes"..as Lloyd Dobler said, "One question: do you need someone or do you really need me? Forget it, I really don't care."

  27. I think Genesis, really got better when Phil Collins became the lead singer, and Gabriel left.

As stated before Gabriel did much better once he went solo.
Who gives a fuck if Pete Gabriel doesn't want to be a part of it.

  28. Gabriel left Genesis for a variety of reasons. One of them was unhappiness with the band, but another was the strange vision he had on Solsbury Hill -- that life didn't have to be about money, schedules, etc. Additionally, I think that Genesis with Phil Collins is what most fans think of as Genesis. I don't see a need to slag off Gabriel for following his heart and leaving the band.

  29. I kind of doubt Phil would allow a rendition of Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (their best song imo). Genesis's best album was Trick of the Tail - the one right after Gabes left. I agree both parties were better off without each other.

And both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins are colossal egomaniacs.

  30. He's got a huge ego; always had it. Why it ended with Kate Bush. But, again, even rehearsing a solo tour employs a lot of people and if they don't work, they don't get paid.
