CBS Saves Money - Fires Women

Hollywood just cracks me up. In any other business if you went up to your employees and said, "Hey, our female workers are not very popular so we are going to fire all of you but keep the men," there would be lawsuits all over the place.

That though is exactly what CBS is doing on its show Criminal Minds. Out of the three women currently on the show, it is expected that only Kristen Vangsness will remain. Both Paget Brewster, who I love and AJ Cook will be saying bye bye. Neither of their contracts were renewed and neither of them will be replaced. Oh sure, there are "discussions" about bringing them back for a few episodes each to tie up their story lines, but it won't be for much screen time at all. Apparently CBS needs the men, but the women are expendable.

  3. Well then it's a good thing that I never watch CBS anyway.

  4. I hate to say this, but JJ and Prentiss are, well, dull. This isn't an example of misogynism except insofar as the only three-dimensional female character is Garcia. She's also one of the "big three" on the show. The whole show is Hotch, Garcia and Reid. They could jettison everyone else and be fine.

  5. isn't that more of a show writer/producer issue rather than a blame-the-network thing?

  6. I like the 'team' aspect of the show. They should keep everyone, even the duller characters. And CBS, do not kill of Shemar Moore.

  7. I have to agree with Melody ... JJ and Prentiss are such boring characters I don't think they'll be missed at all. Terri, if they EVER got rid of Shemar I wouldn't watch anymore!!!!

  8. With Shemar Moore and Garcia you need some "boring" characters. WTH are they thinking? Ed Bernero is an idiot! Somebody needs to start that page on Facebook now!

  9. I'm incredibly offended that CBS has the money to give a raise to Charlie Sheen, a known wife beater, but not keep our female character's fully in tack. This displays the misogyny of CBS from the top down. These women were some of the few examples that we have of strong women on our television, I hope you understand the gravity of the situation. I am extremly angry and hope you can bring some attention to this issue!!

  11. From what I read, AJ is gone, but Paget is supposedly going to get a reduced episode count. Paget needs to get out while she can and get cast on a comedy.

  12. AJ leaving was kind of obvious but Paget... even though she wasn't the best character, it's a team and the team is good.

  13. Screw it.
Criminal Minds is now off my DVR list.

This past season was crazy gratuitous in the gore dept. I actually started covering my eyes when it got too gross.

Now, they're taking away the ladies.

  14. i adore paget. and aj. but i watched paget on huff and think she's an amazing actress

i don't think they're dull, either. Emily has somewhat of a storyline at least they tried to have one for her. I think she's pretty interesting, with her worldly knowledge and such. Also, JJ, when that girl took over for her for maternity leave? it was horrrrible. :(

i wish gideon weren't gone. i kinda can't stand rossi. i cant separate montegna from that mini series with Debra Messing.

  15. Maybe they'll find a way to bring back Harvey Birdman. I miss Birdgirl!

  16. I agree, Melody the First, although I would add that with Garcia you need Morgan. I think that for those who are angered about the cutting of JJ and Emily -- the two dullest characters -- the anger and protests should have started much sooner, with outcry to give those characters more depth so that they wouldn't be so easy to cut. I'm sorry to see them go, but a smaller team will (by neccesity) give my favorite characters (Reid, Garcia, Reid, Hotch, and Reid) more action.

  17. Aw, I really like JJ, for some reason.

As lo ng as they don't take away Garcia and Morgan though, I'm a happy camper.
