More Harry Potter Books?

I think JK Rowling is missing Harry Potter a little bit. For years and years she said Deathly Hallows was going to be it. She always stuck to that and said no way no how would there be more. Well, she now sounds like an athlete thinking about making a comeback. JK was on Oprah. Oh before I get into that, who do you think has more money? Oprah or JK? Oprah has her show and Harpo, but JK Rowling was at one point the richest woman in the UK so I think it is very close. I also think it is telling that Oprah went to JK and not the other way around.

"I could definitely write an eighth, ninth, tenth. I'm not going to say I won't. I don't think I will … I feel I am done, but you never know."

See? To me that means she will be writing another. One part of me is conflicted because she went out on top and has nothing left to prove. The other part would not mind another three or four Harry Potter books. Would they be as adults, or would it focus on the kids of the originals?

  1. I read one of the HP books, one near the end of the series and it was just horrible writing.

The only series of books that I can thing of that was worse in writing were the 'Left Behind' series I read due to a hurricane knocking the power out for a week.

  2. I get the feeling that the Harry Potter series is a bit played out. The books will sell yes but right now the world is in a Twilight craze.

  3. I'm torn too. Everything is tied up and done. And without the main antagonist, the story could feel forced. However, I sure do miss Harry and the gang.

The only way I see it working is if the story is told from a different perspective, i.e. Dumbledore or Malfoy.

  4. I'll admit that the Potter series was bubblegum for the brain.
Pure, unadulterated fluff - but OMG what good fluff.
So hell yeah, if she produces another from that universe, I'm gonna be there to buy it.
After all, one only reads for ones personal pleasure, and the Potter universe is one I happen to love.

  5. I'm not ashamed to admit that I love Harry Potter. Just reread the Deathly Hallows. I'd adore another book.

  6. She kind of ended it tightly. I guess HP's kids could be the protagonists, but meh, I dunno.

    It feels done.

  7. As much as I would like to return to the wizarding world, the story ended nicely and I don't see how she could go back and have it be as exciting. Although, she is much more creative than I.

That being said, only 7 weeks til Deathly Hallows Part 1. Can't wait.

I am so excited to see how they portray it. I'm usually disappointed when books become movies.

  9. bubblegum for the brain?

don't forget it was written for children so no, you won't find a bunch of $10 words in it.

i enjoyed all the books, thought they were exceptionally imaginative for young minds and old. would love to read more of Harry and Harry's kid's adventures. Now that Dumbledore is dead, maybe he will be at Hogwarts as an adult teacher?

  10. @Sue Ellen,
I am usually disappointed too and try to avoid movies from books. I have some issues with the HP movies in the past as they relate to the novel, but most of it was minor. Have you seen the new trailer for the first part yet? Looks well done and gave me chills. Can't wait and equally can't wait for July for the final duel. I just hope they don't edit Mrs. Wesley when she calls Bellatrix a bitch. That should get the crowd going!

I also had some issues with some of the movies, but they were also minor. I hate how they played up the love bits with Harry and Cho/Ron and Hermione.
I haven't seen they trailer yet, but I am going to find it after I post this.

And on a final note, the best book to movie I've seen is Shawshank. There are pages of dialogue in the book that are word for word in the movie, and the feelings/picture I got from the book was protrayed in the movie. Love it. Sorry for going on!

  12. OMG!!! That looks so effing good. I cannot wait to see it! Ralph Fiennes is such an amazing pick for Lord Voldemort.

I think they may do it justice because it is in two parts. Fingers crossed.

  13. I don't think she's ready to let it go yet. I'm sure there's more she could explore in the Harry Potter universe.

  14. Love the books, love the movies....I am torn however cause I agree with the idea that they ended so classically.

    @jax - you nailed it!

@patty - hell to the yeah! I would be the first one standing when she says it! :)

  15. No way, she shuoldn't do that, the Harry Potter series ends well.

@Patty I'm also waiting!! the Half Blood Prince was (imo) so bad, I'm hoping the last two will be just AWESOME.

  16. Maybe she should just start a brand new series or write a book that has nothing to do with HP?. Eh?

JK Rowling the future George Lucas of the writing world.

I would love to see more HP books - they are probably the best books I've ever read and I've enjoyed each of them over and over and over. PLEASE let there be more.

  18. If she's going to do more Potter books, they need to be from the perspective of the kids. That's the only way it'll work.

A part of me wants at most, another trilogy. But another part of me is thinking that all the loose ends are tied up and that's that.

Either way...I'd rather have her putting out more books than Stephenie Meyer. Someone needs to drop a house on that woman.

  19. The HP world is so rich and well-established, she could write stories about 50 different people or in different places in time. She could do a Marauders story, something about Charlie in Romania, Minerva's childhood, etc. If she decided to go back to it, I'll be first in line to buy it.

  20. This is how I know Enty is a man -- if there's any opening at all, it's a go! :) I read it just the opposite -- she's saying it's a closed issue, a big NO. But for some reason women don't usually like being that definitive, that's really all that's going on, a semantics rather than substantive thing.

  21. Patty and Sue Ellen, I'm with yah, I've already scheduled a half day off of work the next day so I can catch a midnight showing, I can't wait!

Yeah I'd do another stint in the magical world, I'm sure she'd come up with something wonderfully creative.

  22. Well, I thought JK Rowling's writing was phenomenal. I'm not usually into the "fantasy" genre but loved this series.

I am really surprised to hear she is doing this. I'm not sure how I feel about it but I'm sure I would check it out.

  23. If she does write more about that world, I hope she does the next generation (Harry and Ginny's kids). I feel like Harry's story is done and messing with it would tar it in some way. Like, it was perfect the way it was, don't screw it up now.

But I love love love the books and I'd love to read more of Rowling's stuff, so yah, I'd love to see a new series that starts with the next generation.
