Elton John Says Billy Joel Needs Rehab

Kim Richards had her sister Kyle to thank for telling the world she was an alcoholic and needed rehab and now Elton John has done the same to Billy Joel. No, Elton did not suddenly become a Real Housewife, but let me tell you, if he ever decided to be on the Atlanta edition I would watch it every week. Can you imagine him on that show? Love it. Kim would be calling him every five seconds with song ideas.

Anyway, Elton is interviewed in the new Rolling Stone and says that Billy needs to get serious bout his recovery and that many shows and entire tours had to be canceled because of Billy Joel's drinking. The only time you ever think about Billy and his drinking problem is when you see him get pulled over or see him on video drunk. Billy's reaction to the comments by Elton? "That is just Elton being Elton." Sounds to me like Elton is giving him some tough love and being a really good friend. It is not like Elton does not know about alcohol and drug addiction.

  1. Can't he keep this to himfuckingself? Attention whore.

If you are "friends" with Billy and you really care about him, do this shit in PRIVATE.

    I can't stand EJ anymore.

  2. Listen, I love Elton, but he needs to mind his own business and not tell the world what he thinks other people should do. First George Michael, now Billy Joel. Publicly embarrassing them isn't going to help the problem.

  6. Well, I can tell you there isn't a single person on Long Island that doesn't know Billy Joel is an alcoholic. I don't think there any trees that don't have his licence plate stamped into them. Should Elton John be talking about it? Probably not, but it's not exactly a secret.

  9. what's wrong with what he did? he's trying to HELP someone who he knows is an addict. he's gone through this himself.
the truth hurts. sorry, but i don't see where elton's the bad guy in this. billy joel has needed to get REAL help for years. his response tells him every word is true and he knows it.

  10. He just looks like he's trying to help. Smells like he just enjoys stirring the pot.

  11. He could have done this privately.

  12. Perhaps Elton has spoken to Joel privately. This may be the next step in getting him to listen. I feel that Elton has the right to comment on Billy's drinking because during their tour, Billy drinking had a direct effect on Elton, the tour, and both their careers. Plus, as others have stated, Joel's alcoholism is not a secret. He's had multiple car accidents while drinking, and has been in trouble for public drunkeness. Elton in no way outted him or betrayed a trust.

  13. I feel like RJ does. I wouldn't be surprised if Elton has already spoken to Billy Joel privately, and BJ ignored it. This feels like a desperation measure to get BJ to listen, because BJ has been an alcoholic for a long time and nothing else has shaken him up enough to get help. Bringing this public may be a last-ditch effort to help a friend when nothing else has worked.

  14. As the family member of a late alcoholic, I don't see anything wrong here either. Especially if Joel's alcoholism isn't a secret anyway. When you are trying to help someone, you will try absolutely anything under the sun. Until of course you realize that they can only help themselves.

  15. I don't think it's exactly cool that EJ said this so publicly, but perhaps he's tried to tell BJ privately. I don't know.

Oh man, I thought the Bev Hills Housewives were good. but I have to say that after catching the Atlanta Housewives the other day that they blow all the other Housewives out of the water. RHOBH will now seem boring. :(

  16. Elton John is completely disconnected from reality and one of the biggest and most demanding divas alive. He makes Jlo look like a sweet granny. Maybe Billy Joel needs to give an interview where he says Elton John needs to stop throwing toddler temper tantrums every time he is slightly inconvenienced or things aren't exactly how he wants them. You don't help a drunk by publicly criticizing them even if you are Sir Elton John.

  17. Elton was just being his same, bitchy self.

@ MadLyb: What ep of TRHOA are you referring to? The latest? Since they constantly run marathons it's hard to guess.

  18. Elton means well I suppose...but maybe he needs to mind his own business. I'm reading Robbie Williams' biography from 2003 (great) and he was so funny telling about how Elton was really kind when he was in need but then basically kidnapped him to try to force him to go to rehab, foisting him on some UK Dr Drew type who was a total quack, and the whole thing was really weird and clueless.

Old habits are hard to break, maybe?

  21. Perhaps Sir Elton is a huge diva... However, after going through my father's alcoholism and (after many family "interventions") his self-imposed rehab, I find it hard to believe that a recovering addict would throw a close friend to the blood-sucking tabloids unless he felt it was completely the last resort to show Billy what he has become. My father didn't realize how bad it had gotten until he saw a video (while sober) of his behavior when he was drunk. Hard love hurts but, unfortunately, that is what it takes sometimes to help those that are near and dear to your heart.

  22. Oops, sorry for the double post...

  23. Ive seen celebrities or their families picked apart for not "forcing" loved ones into rehab. If EJ has told BJ this in private, he may actually being doing this publically out of love/concern.

  24. Just don't send him to AA!
