We Trust Betty White

Apparently if you are a company and want to sell something to Americans you need to know two things. Old people and Betty White. A new study shows that older people make much more effective spokespeople because we trust them more. And of all the people in the world, who do we trust the most? Betty White. You know what though, she does not do that many commercials. I know she does some PSA's for animals but I can't think of any commercials she is in right now. But, if I were a company I would start pulling out the wallet and give her some money and stop giving it to the Kardashians who finished near the bottom. At the bottom were Paris Hilton and Charlie Sheen. Who are these 2,000 people? They are fantastic. Also near the bottom were Tiger Woods, Mel Gibson and Britney Spears.

Near the top were Tom Hanks, Oprah, Johnny Depp and Taylor Swift. Oh, and we love Denzel Washington and Sandra Bullock too.

  3. That Snickers commercial was AWESOME, but actually, I like the new one with Joe Pesci and Don Rickles better. Hilarious.

  4. Well, Betty was Rose Nylin and she LOVES animals to pieces, so it's a no-brainer for me.

Betty, would you like a kidney? Well, you can have one of mine.

Denzel supposedly cheats on his wife, but he's a gorgeous man and a great actor. No doubt. But I don't "trust" him because of the rumors I've heard.

Ditto Tom Hanks, minus the "gorgeous" part. His son is pretty cute, though.

Why the hell would I ~trust~ Taylor Swift, though? Just because she looks like an angel and writes songs about porch swings and lightning bugs? Nothing against the girl, and I soooooo appreciate how she pens her own tunes, but I don't trust her the way I do Betty or Sandra.

Really, I only "trust" the celebrities who consistently do great work -- Helen Mirren, Natalie Portman (sorry, but the bitch can act her ass off), Daniel Day-Lewis, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Winslet come to mind.

But, really. I mean, we don't KNOW these people, even though most of us spend waaaaaay too much time thinking about them. :-) So why the hell should we "trust" them, unless we KNOW them? That seems stupid.

  5. Doesn't Betty also still do commercials for 1-800-petmeds?

  6. Betty also does AARP commercials now

  7. I've also heard about Denzel cheating on his wife as well as that he is racist.

Think of every Denzel movie you have ever seen. Have you EVER in ANY of the movies seen him do anything sexual, from kissing on up with a white woman? Nope you SURE haven't. Rumor has it that The Pelican Brief, with him and Julia Roberts - Julia was slated to be his love interest. Yup, sex and all...did it happen? ABSOLUTELY NOT. And we trust this man? Count me out, "we".

  8. Kim K was also at the bottom.

  9. Sadie, Denzel is open about the fact that he won't have a romantic film relationship with a white woman. It's like Affirmative Action - in one light it's racist, but mostly it's trying to counter the continuing inequalities. I can't hate on him for that.

  10. ^I didnt know that stipulation about Denzel. Hmmmm, interesting.

This study is very facinating to me from a sociological standpoint. And you know, when I think about it, I DO trust old people and animals and children for that matter WAY more than I trust other populations of people.
I just see more of a purity in them I guess.

And Ida- porch swings and lightening bugs?! What the hell? Hahaha awesome.
I think Taylor Swift is also 'trusted' because she plays the sweet victim little girl card and she is a super pretty girl-that is all.

  11. *meant to say I see more of a purity in them and so I tend to want to take their words more at face value rather than be skeptical or cynical about what they are talking about.

I mean, c'mon, who could look Betty White (or a calico kitty) in the eyes and not nod their head in agreement? :-P

  12. I have always adored Betty White. She's one of my top 3 picks for who's I'd like to go drinking with. Can you imagine the stories she could tell? I'm sure she's seen some crazy stuff in her time.

  13. But of course! Betty White is bad-ass. Exhibit A
