Jessica Lynch Graduates From College

Yesterday, Jessica Lynch graduated from college. How many of you remember her name? The entire world knew her name 8 years ago when she became the first female prisoner of war in the Iraq war.

Sh was held for nine days after her vehicle was shot and crashed. One of her best friends died in the battle along with ten others. Jessica was severely injured and still cannot feel one of her legs. When she was rescued from her captors the government said she went down fighting and shooting, but as she will gladly tell you, none of that happened and that her rifle jammed. She was criticized for not going along with the story and says she still gets hate mail for not agreeing to lie. I think that at 19 it is great that she had enough moxie (do people still use that word) to stand up for herself and not be bullied or forced into saying something that was not true even if it would have made her a hero.

Congratulations on graduating. She is going to be teaching elementary school.

  1. I had forgotten about her and didn't put the name to the story at first. Congrats to her for having courage and also not trying to become famous because she was in the news.

    That doesn't happen anymore.

  2. I remeber this story it really turned me on having any patriotic feelings about invading Iraq. The whole thing was a lie and she was never in any danger. She as taken to an Iraqi hospital and was well taken care of. Her "rescue" was a joke. She was fine.

I have a lot of respect for her for telling the truth of what really happend not the Bush white wash they were trying to do.

  3. Good for her, she didn't let one absolutely awful experience color her entire life. She makes me feel proud.

  8. Good for her and congratulations to her as well. She is an example of the kind of morals that I only wish more people had. And her story is just such a sad example of what a lie the whole thing is. But I think she is more of a hero for telling the truth, I have a lot of respect for that.

  10. This brought back memories. She refused to go to the dark side - by going along with the Republicans version of the LIE. I will always respect her for that.

  11. Has anyone seen the Pat Tillman documentary on Showtime? It'll make your stomach turn, but he too wouldn't go along with being made out to look like a hero. It's a fantastic documentary.

  14. Teachers are some of the most honest people I know. She'll have good training standing up against administrators, lol.

  15. I remember when a former service member criticized her, but that person said her gun jammed, because she neglected to do her duty to clean it properly. In that environment, such neglect will lead to weapon failure. If this is true, allowing the government to falsely proclaim her a hero had a decent chance of ending in profound embarrassment for her. However, some people are brazen enough to go for it, anyway, so I'll give her that!
