Robert DeNiro Welcomes Child #6

At the age of 68, Robert DeNiro has welcomed his sixth child into the world. He and his wife Grace used a surrogate and had a daughter they named Helen Grace. The couple have a son who is 13. I knew Robert had some other kids, but when you actually look at the numbers I did not think he had this many. He had two kids, one of whom is 40 years old with his first wife. He also had twins with a former girlfriend and that was also through a surrogate. 68 and with his busy schedule, I wonder how much time Robert has to devote to another child, let alone his other 5. Not that the 40 year old and 35 year old need that much attention, but still.

  1. His oldest son is a real estate broker in New York, he does very well, and I think he has twins with Toukie Smith....Willie Smiths sister....they were together for a while.

  2. Not to sound too cynical (okay, I probably do), but maybe this is her way of ensuring financial security down the road, should their, um, relationship status change. Or she could just really love kids.

In any case, he's almost 70—fatherhood at that age can't be easy, and the baby probably won't have her father around for her big milestones.

  3. If you've read anything about her...well she's not a sweetie pie.

  4. ^^ surfer, that's what afriend of mine thought. i just find this so odd and so selfish. if you want to adopt, there are only a few countries in the world that will even let a person over 45 adopt an infant. it goes up every year, so at 50 you can adopt a 5 year old. his oldest daughter is old enough to be this child's grandma for gosh sakes. just because you can, does not man you should.

remember when tony randall had a couple of kids with that 20-somthing woman he married? people had a fit! and she was young. (wonder what ever happened to her....off to google)

  5. The 40-year-old daughter was his first wife's daughter that Robert adopted, FYI. And I didn't think he'd father'd Soukie's twins. She had them after they'd broken up. But I could be wrong.

  8. RDN's kids on Wikipedia:

De Niro and his first wife Diahnne Abbott have a son, Raphael, a former actor who works in New York real estate. De Niro also adopted Abbott's daughter from a previous relationship, Drena.

De Niro has twin sons, Julian Henry and Aaron Kendrik, conceived by in vitro fertilization and delivered by a surrogate mother in 1995, from a long-term live-in relationship with former model Toukie Smith.

In 1997, De Niro married his second wife, actress Grace Hightower, at their Marbletown home. Their son Elliot was born in 1998 and the couple split in 1999. The divorce was never finalized and in 2004 they renewed their vows.[36] In December 2011, Hightower and De Niro welcomed a daughter, Helen Grace, born via surrogate.

so he had 3 kids by surrogate, one adopted kid and 2 others kids

I think it's extremely selfish to have a child at that age. Granted they're rich so they can hire nannies and extra help but small kids require lots of energy.

Is it some level of machismo for men to have kids at that age? I assume it's financial planning for the woman.

  11. As an older mother, I got a lot of grief for having kids after 40. They were a very happy surprise for me. I think having kids later is a very personal decision, but from what I've been reading about this child, this was a very thought out child. I'm pretty sure they had to use a donated egg and just De Niro's sperm. I don't know why they felt the need to do this. I can see if De Niro had married a much younger women who wanted kids, but this situation just seems odd. In any case, I rather have this than Octomom who has California paying for her brood.

  12. This is why I dont believe Enty is an entertainment lawyer. If he was he would know full well that people with money dont raise their own kids. They visit with them once in a while. Their assistants or their secretaries keep track of the nannies.

  13. Better to have 10 years of parenting brilliance than 40 years w/ an asshole mom/dad that leaves you nothing but bitterness & huge therapy bills.

Being "young" isn't always the shit.

There's a difference between having your kids in your 40s and having a kid in your 50s and 60s. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it. You don't have the same energy in your 50s and 60s as you did in your 20s, 30s and 40s. Plus medical issues start rising up. I'm an adult and coping with my father's dementia sucks, how would a young child or adolescent cope?

As for what MyGeorgie said above me, that's a nice saying but that's all it is, a saying. It's not grounded in anything.

  17. I did not know that A) Toukie was Will Smith's sister and B) That DRENA DiNiro was adopted!!!!!! That man (RD) loves the sh*t outta her and always has (not that adoption would lull that love.....but it does make me adore DiNiro all the more).

  19. @Omama
It is not the actor Will Smith, but the fashion designer Will Smith Toukie is related to.
