Pregnant Man Getting A Divorce

The Pregnant Man, Thomas Beatie was on the show The Doctors. Didn't that used to be a soap like way back in the day? I think it was a radio soap that went to television but didn't do as well as some of the others. Why do I think it was really scandalous? Anyway, now there is a syndicated show called The Doctors, and on it, Thomas said he underwent the final procedure to fully become a man and also shocked the audience when he said he and his wife have separated. The couple have three kids together, but I have to imagine that the nine years they have been together has to have created a ton of strain on them. They have had a lot of attention, back to back to back pregnancies, plus there is a ten year age gap and his wife already had two children.

I am forever annoyed by the hullabaloo over him. Physically he was still a woman when he had the kids, so it was not a pregnant man. That aside, I'm really sorry for the kids, who didn't ask for any of this.

  10. That's too bad. Does anyone stay together anymore?

  11. He was a fame whore during the pregnancies. Ugh, I can't erase the memory of those pictures from my head. For some reason I really found them to be disturbing. And I rarely get grossed out.

  14. @Syco, that was my big complaint too. I remember getting into an argument at a party when I said *he* was technically still a woman... And using the girl parts for their intended purpose.

That said - I am sorry to hear they are breaking up. I feel for the young children.

  15. Famewhore? Maybe, but how can you be "the pregnant man" and not get attention?

  17. Even though from the outside he is a man I never considered him to be a "Pregnant Man". To me he was still a woman since he/she still had ovaries to have babies.

I've gotten dumped on here before for stating this, but I'll do it again: people CANNOT change their sexes. If you were born a woman, you will ALWAYS be a woman, no matter what kind of surgeries you have, what hormones you take, etc. People can change their genders, but not their sexes. There has never been a pregnant man, including this person.

  20. Wow, those two look so much alike in the face (in this photo anyway), it's kind of creepy. When they both were women did they look like sisters?

  21. My mom used to watch the Doctors and it had a YOUNG Alec Baldwin. That was back int he 70's!

  22. Yes, count me among those who just laugh at the 'Pregnant Man' line. She still had all of her body parts, she was living a male identity but she was basically a pregnant lesbian awaiting full transformation surgery. That's all it was.

Those kids are very cute, I hope this doesn't get harder on them then the whole PR stunt already was.

  23. The mommy (who did not have a sex change) was not the most attractive woman and then after her partner had the first baby, she (the mom) lost a lot of weight and became more attractive as well. I am not saying she was unattractive because she was overweight, she just didn't seem to care about her appearance. A few months back, I opened up Kneepads and there they are. The mom had long hair (extensions maybe?), a gym body and took pride in her appearance. She also looked 10 years younger. I wonder if the drastic change to her appearance helped the downfall? I have seen quite a few seemingly happy marriages fail after one partner lost a lot of weight, and this marriage already had plenty of drama to begin with. Those are 3 adorable children no matter what!

  24. Texshan. I am not dumping on you, but rather somewhat disagree. So much of what we perceive as gender is due to our hormones. Folks that have mutations to significant sex hormones can look completely different to what their sex chromosomes generally dictate. A person that has xy chromosomes but has a mutation to some key male associated hormones, can have female genitalia and breasts. For example: Androgen insensitivity syndrome
Sometimes these folks associate with being female and keep their business, while others associate with being male and take hormones and even have surgery. I feel that there are lots of shades of gray with gender and sex. How would you classify an xy person with no penis and external female genitalia who identifies with being female?

Luckylass, in AIS, the person is genetically male, even if they have the physical characteristics of a female. So while I would support their choice to live as either a female or a male, whichever they are most comfortable with, genetically they would remain male.

Please note that I wrote that a person cannot change their SEX, not their gender. Gender is largely a social construct, rather than a strictly biological one.

This is not meant to be a judgment call on how anyone lives their life, by the way. That's not my business and I have no horse in that race anyway. But I do object to misleading and untrue statements being made in the press -- such as "Pregnant Man Gives Birth." Thomas Beatie is transgendered. While Thomas may appear to be a man physically, biologically he is a woman.
