National Enquirer Blind Item

WHICH well-respected actor of stage and screen is starting to show signs of emotionally unraveling on the set of his critically acclaimed cable show? The nearly 60-year-old star raised eyebrows when he suddenly and mysteriously dropped out of a hit network show a few years back!

  1. Kelsey Grammer?

The critics love Boss on Starz and he clearly has some issues!

    1. That's what I was thinking too...

  2. I don't know why Mandy does TV series he doesn't seem able to commit long term. He should just stick to movies and stage with short runs.

  3. Not Inigo Montoya? Did his long search for the six fingered man finally catch up with him?

  4. Gotta co-sign Mandy Patinkin. I love him, but he has a little crazy on his face.

  5. I was going to guess Kelsey Grammar. He just walked off Piers Morgan right before he was supposed to go on, because they showed a picture of Camille. Piers live-tweeted it, and said he wasn't even going to ask any questions about Camille.

  7. Not Mandy Patinkin!

Oh NO! I'm such a fan!

"...however you live, there's a part of you,
Always standing by, mapping out a sky.
    Finishing a hat."

If anyone gets that, my day will be made. It's been well-known for decades that Patinkin RULES.

  8. I like Mandy too, but it's gotta be him.

As for Piers, he has a history of either soft soap interviews or blindsiding people. I just can't watch his show.

  11. dia papaya, it's from "Sunday in the Park with George", which is a 80's Stephen Sondheim show that won the Pulitzer & the Tony. Mandy also won a Tony, and his co-star was Bernadette Peters. It's a fictionalized version of the life of the painter Georges Seurat.
Anyway, Mandy still sings a song from that show, the one I quoted, in his stage shows today. It's one of his signature songs for decades now. It's a song about being driven as an artist, and letting it screw up your personal life.

Here's the song. MP always belts from the tips of his toes, he's FANTASTIC!

I have to say this is Mandy Patinkin. I love him but I have heard rumors for a long time that he can be difficult to work with.

  18. How did I never know Mandy was Inigo?

  19. Definitely Mandy. He dropped out of Criminal Minds, and before that, he was on a top-rated medical show (the name escapes me at the moment) which he left suddenly as well.

  20. Again, not a blind. Mandy just did an interview about this. http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/09/14/mandy-patinkin-criminal-minds-departure/

  21. Agree with the Mandy guess.

Criminal Minds is our favorite show on basic cable; we were very sad when Mandy left, and how they wrote his character out. But, Joe Mantegna has done a great job...so it remains our fave.

Didn't he leave Chicago Hope in an all-of-a-sudden way, too?

Libby - Thanks for the clip, love it. Mandy is truly awesome.

    1. @Cornbread, from what I read back then when Mandy left, Criminal Minds had to write him out that way bcuz he never showed up to the set to film any new scenes. He just one day decided not to show and didn't inform his coworkers or any of the Criminal Minds workers and gave no explanation.

He was fantastic on the show, but I kind of like how they explained his absence in the storyline in basically one line while having Hotch say they must move on, & then they started the meeting on the info for their next case. It kind of imitated how Mandy did them in real life. LOL

    2. he did film his final scenes for criminal minds b/c he was in the first 2 episodes of season 3

    3. Hi Jennifer, I know he was in those scenes but thought I had read that it was old footage used to have some sort of closing storyline for him since he left them all hanging. That's why you don't see much of him in his closing scenes, all you really see is him driving off in his car. I could be remembering incorrectly, but I think it was something like that.

  22. I remember there was a blind item in TV Guide back then about someone on a top 10 show who had the reputation of being one of the nicest guys in show business, but was hated by all his coworkers. When I checked the list of top 10 shows, it had to be him and Criminal Minds which he left soon after.
But I like him because he is a great performer, and I don't have to work with him. Also loved him on Dead Like Me.

  23. I've always had a not-so-secret crush on Joe Mantegna.

  24. The recent interview was about how soul-destroying Criminal Minds was and why he left it, but it didn't give any clue - I thought - that he's unraveling on the Homeland set. How sad.

  25. Mandy dropped out of Chicago Hope too back in the late 90's.

  26. My husband surprised me with tickets to one of his singing performances about 12 years ago. He was so personable and engaging with the audience that I was surprised to later learn that he is known to be DIFFICULT. Still a fan, regardless.

  27. for Libby:

I chose and my world was shaken
    so what?
the choice may have been mistaken
    the choosing was not

    you keep moving on...

    that song saved me once.
and it's oddly appropriate for this post!

  29. Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.

    LOVE THAT MOVIE!

  30. Its Jane Fonda.

She has a dog that is small and a foo foo dog that she claims is a service dog. This way the dog is allowed to go the restaurants and shopping and a good enough reason for a hotel to 'bend' the rules.

She was all over TMZ leaving a restaurant with the Pooch in her arms!

  31. I'll go with Mandy too, he was great in Criminal Minds and love Homeland, I hope he doesn't leave :(

  33. I'm sure it's Mandy, whom I also love. He leaves shows suddenly.

  34. I was so bummed when Mandy didn't come back for the Dead Like Me reunion movie, but then I saw it and realized it was for the best. Such a huge letdown after the series was so amazing.

  35. Love Mandy Patinkin. Having said that, he is a bit remote and I have no doubt he would do this. He just has a different set of priorities. Nice guy though. Just.....remote.

  36. I have always had a crush on Inigo, um, I mean Mandy Patinkin. He is a great actor and looked really nice in those leather pants....

It can suck, mental illness. Sometimes it cannot be controlled. You can excell at a job and then one day wake up and feel you cannot to go there again - for no real reason.

I have no idea where his demons come from, or if he really has any, but I wish him well and thank him for what he has done.

My sister and I know this film almost word for word....we judge people by their appreciation for The Princess Bride...

My daughters nickname is Princess Buttercup...

I knew there was a reason I love CDANers!!

  38. I remember reading an article about M.P. several years ago. The reason he left Chicago Hope was because he was losing his eyesight. Work became too difficult. He was fortunate because doctors were eventually able to perform surgery to either stave off the sight loss, or correct what had all ready occurred.
