Britney Spears Sings Happy Birthday On X factor

I feel like someone told Britney Spears to take the cake out and go sing Happy Birthday like you are singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. The first few times I watched it, I felt sorry for her, because it is so awkward with her being the only one singing. No one wanted to join in? Would Britney only sing if she could have a solo? She seems kind of nervous, but I thought she did a good job, just way over the top. Does anyone else feel like there is nothing beyond the eyes, like she is in some kind of haze and just does what she is told.

  1. They only had room in the budget for a Costco cake?

  2. LOL Amber! Was thinking the same thing! What a sad little cake :(

Although there is no such thing as a bad cake IMO. Dammit! Now I want cake for breakfast!!!!

  3. I've always loved Britney because behind all the nonsense and production, she's "a human," as Chris Crocker put it. A little unstable, a little narcissistic, a little paranoid, but always my favorite pop star.

  4. Such a sad little video...I do feel bad for her here. Why was her fiance there, too? She can't be alone for even a few minutes? I really feel terrible for her...

    1. My heart hurts for Britney. Her 'fiance' is her handler. She has to toe the line every second of the day because of the conservater thing. They basically can control her every move. She can't do anything without the fear of everything being ripped away from her. I really really feel so terrible for her too.

  5. Cake is appropriate for any meal, any time of day. :)

@Barton - I'm with you. I love her. She probably WAS nervous/terrified, and if she looks a vacant it may simply be the meds she's on to keep her stable. I kind of hope that when she's done being an active pop star, she'll speak out about her mental illness. She's beloved, and in a position to affect people positively.

  6. Dia- i agree. Cake is like pizza, even when its bad- its still freaking cake!

  7. I just feel bad for her sons, as soon as Jason knocks her up with her 3rd child and he will as soon as they are married. She will completely forget about them and just have Daddy Spears sends the check. She barely sees them now as it is.

  8. Look ya'll!! I DON'T lipsynch everything! And I thought it was creepy her fiance was there too... why?? He's not famous, he's not on the show... whyyyyyyy!!!!!????
Although she looks so much better, she still looks lost...

  9. That was awful. It was over the top and she still couldn't manage to keep the tune.

I wish ppl would stop milking this girl for all she's worth and let her address her mental health.

  10. God I feel horrible for her. She reminds me of a trained monkey playing her organ, desperately hoping for a treat if she does well. I just want her to be able to retire to a ranch somewhere and enjoy her children. I can't understand why she still needs to work. Surely she has enough money. Oh ya, got to support her freeloading family. If her family really loved her and carried about her well being, she wouldn't still be in the spotlight.

    So sad.

  11. MommaBear, I thought the same thing. When she was finished, she looked around waiting for her master to say "good girl; here's a biscuit." She reminded me of our rescue pup, who is super sweet but remembers her tragic past and is still wary of getting punished.

  12. I am over everyone (starting with Emty) being so nasty about her. Look how far she has come from the depths of a depression or worse.

How about some human compassion? Give her credit, instead of a verbal backhands.

  13. I adore her so much.

  14. I must be the minority here - i thought she sounded good and I thought it was a genuine birthday wish for LA Reid. Why wouldn't she sing it by herself - she is the bigger star right? I love her and hope she has it easy from now on - people are so cynical about her! Maybe she still sings and stays in the spotlight because she wants to. Oh that's right I forgot she cannot have any thoughts on her own!!! "Leave Brittney Alone" :)

    1. I thought she sounded good too! I would have been so nervous about dropping the cake. I can't believe no one else mentioned dropping it! AND singing and the cake blocking her from making sure there was nothing to trip her on the floor as she blindly walked over.

  15. I looooove Britney, and I am proud of her. To be honest, I'd be nervous too walking, carrying a cake, and singing while being recorded.

  16. I really love Brit and think/hope as she gets older, she's getting more control. I just thought she was really really nervous but was impressed by how well she sang without being digitized.

  17. I agree with Roman Holiday, she sang very well. It seemed others stopped singing along because they wanted to listen. Also, it sounded like they weren't sure if they should be singing in the place. The moment was a little awkward but Britney did great, imo. Sad about her sons, if it's true.

  19. For some people--some meds can make a difference in your energy--and kind of flatten you or numb you a little bit---everyone is different so that could account for her being different.

I think she's doing ok--for someone with her history--coming back to prime time TV with this kind of attention is a lot of pressure--anyone would be nervous.

It really seems like Simon and LA are both trying to support her while she is finding her way.

She looks good and this is probably good for her--she works part of the year, makes a ton of money, gets a lot of attention and admiration.

She is very young to have had the best of her career behind her. I hope this leads her to something she enjoys doing.

  20. I thought the same thing Enty. She looks gorgeous but that spark in her eyes is gone. It is just emptiness behind her eyes. Pretty sad, but I attribute it to all the psych meds she is probably on. Poor thing, but she is doing better, so good for her!

  21. ITA about the sad eyes, but don't you thing she has brief moments of a little glimmer?

She has come a long way from shaving her head and attacking vehicles. She's got a steady job now and at least she's trying.

    1. The sad eyes break my heart. Like she dreams of a secluded cabin in the Alps where she just skis all day and nobody recognizes her in her snowsuit. I love on X Factor when she sees a good performance and laughs, smiles and really looks happy.

  22. Britney might have enough money to retire, but the people that depend on her for a living don't. They will work that golden goose for as long as they can.

  23. I was happy to hear her sing. I've never heard her sing without background vocals and I thought she did pretty good. As much as I dislike a lot of her music I've always pulled for her - I think because she's a mom and her sons need her.

  24. I love Britney on the show. When she says NO she means it. But I will not deny she looks dead behind the eyes sincer her breakdown. I'm a huge fan and I just hope she can stay afloat!!!

  25. This poor girl. You never hear Lainey or Enty slamming her anymore. Those shitbag parents of hers have ridden her like sea biscuit. I hope her story has a happy ending

  26. She sounds terrible!!! And why add the vocal acrobatics? especially when you can't do them?

  27. Did anyone see it on the show? Ok an xfactor junky, I used to download the UK version illegally, I digress.... Well Demi tells Brit it is LA's birthday and we should do something for him, brit says like what, Demi says a cake. Then brit says oh and I can suing to him. Fast forward to later in the show brit brings out the cake and sings solo. Uh isn't Demi also a singer? It was a little weird, I still love vacant Brit.

  28. I thought it was good! Didn't think she seemed nervous or vacant. After all the above comments though maybe I expected worse. I feel weirdly proud of her. Which is pretty ironic given she's a superstar and I'm just me.

  29. Other people were singing, shes just the only one miced. I love her and to think of how far shes actually come and the fact that she very well could have died during it all I think people should stop attacking her. I do hope someday she speaks out about what mental issues she really has. She could be a great inspiration for other people suffering.

  30. Anyone else immediately think...hmmm could that be MV?

  32. "Does anyone else feel like there is nothing beyond the eyes, like she is in some kind of haze and just does what she is told. "

    Um, yes.

  33. Perhaps she wants the boyfriend there, it might make her feel more secure.

I think her meds produce the effect we see. She is still able to be animated and really enjoy the good performances. This might be good for her, it's public, but tightly controlled.

  34. She is way too young to retire. She needs a reason (other than Starbucks) to get up every morning. Too easy to keep her drugged and locked in an ivory tower. Good on her family for allowing her to be productive.

  35. I watched a couple episodes of xfactor. There were moments of her looking totally nervous and uncomfortable and other moments where she seemed fun, honest and genuine. I kinda expected her as a judge to just say everyone was good (a la Paula) but she doesn't. She's very honest. I think the meds numb her and she's afraid what people will say, but she doesn't seem to be completely lost all the time. I'm rooting for her.

  36. I agree about her looking like trained seal. Poor Brit Brit.

  37. I had low expectations but Britney is a good judge. Honest, straightforward, genuine.

The Bday song was weird. But
It's Britney Bitch. You don't sing WITH Britney.

VargasGirl -I saw it too. Totally set up.
And it was a break. Nice of her manager/fiancé to be there for her.

  38. She's pitiful. She's aged so much. Her fiancée sits a few feet away from her at all times during filming, because she needs that support. I think they should've let Demi sing instead of her. She needs to stick to auto tune, it works for her.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I also agree that she has nothing beyond her eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul and hers look so empty and sad. Go back and compare her earlier photos to her current ones. You don't age into empty eyes, I truly feel like she's been through so much more than we will ever know.

  40. Actually your wrong, it was staged because more than once it has been said "Britney? judging LIVE singing?"

It was a reminder that yes, she can actually sing - remember Happy Birthday is not Public Domain, they had to clear and pay for that. It was Britney's idea - her assistant got the cake..yeah it was a bad cake.
