So You Think You Can Dance Spoiler

Over the weekend I managed to watch the last five episodes of So You Think You Can Dance just so I could catch up and be ready for the finale. It also got rid of 10 hours on my DVR. That whole Olympic thing really messed me up because I got out of the habit watching the show on Wednesday's because they kept being repeats and this weekend I paid for it. As usual, I think it is the best talent show on television. Not the best reality competition show which will always be Amazing Race in my mind, but the best talent show for sure.

  1. I chose Eliana during the tryouts, she is fabulous! I was surprised that Cheon won, I thought he was the best dancer but I thought perhaps Cyrus would win as it is in fact "America's Favorite Dancer".

The four finalists were all great.

  4. It was a good season - good dancers and good choreo. Eliana is perfection.

  5. How is it a spoiler if Nigel all but announced the winners on last week's show?

The Lion King number with the Top 10 and the All-Stars was one of my favorite group routines ever on the show. It is definitely up there with some of those incredible group dances choreographed by Wade Robson.

  6. My favorite reality show ever. So happy with the winners. I just knew Cyrus would win, so I was pleasantly shocked Cheon won. Eliana is just beyond. Wow.
I hated how they cut results night, but love the girl and guy wins now.

  7. I was surprised that Cyrus got as far as he did, even though I loved watching him dance when he danced in his style. But sometimes it was downright painful to watch him perform in other styles. So I wasn't surprised about Cheon (although he does seem kind of...cold..and that comes across in his performances). And definitely not surprised about Eliana---she was fabulous and Tiffany always left me saying, "Now which one is she again?"

Yeah, I spend too much time thinking about this stuff. But my favorite night of the week is Thursday: PROJECT RUNWAY. All of the gay men on that show are out of the closet (unlike on SYTYCD), and the cattiness factor goes through the roof. The producers of SYTYCD want it to be all Disney, apple pie, everyone-loves-each-other, while PR producers go for the truth: Each of us is here to fricking WIN.

  8. Gladys, I'm a PR fan, too! I'm thinking Dmitry is going to win this season...have you seen the finale collections? It includes all the decoys mixed in. They're on 'Blogging Project Runway'--the website.

  9. They really fucked up with this new format and I didn't think the talent was up to par this season. It's still my favorite show, so I hope it's better next go 'round.

  10. Oh! And I should say, Gladys, that as a former restaurant server & drama club geek, the catty male culture feels very nostalgic for me....

  11. There was something a little off about this season on SYTYCD, but always love the amazing talents of the contestants.
@ Gladys - another PR fan here.
@ libby - I agree about Dmitry - that jacket last week with the cutouts was amazing. I like him - he has a good sense of humor, but have to laugh at his struggles with Elena. Have to check out the final collections.

  12. Melinda, I love how Dmitry's confident, but quiet and not arrogant. Also his insights about others is usually spot-on. Also I love his command of the language ('one-way-monkey' instead of one-trick-pony, etc.).
The fights with Elena? I love him for being the one person who quietly steps up in her face. When he got her back for saying he only makes dresses, by telling her she 'only makes coffins that don't move'---I LOST it!!!
I do wonder though, that if the Ukraine vs. Belarus thing means something (potentially a lot) to them, that we don't know about?

Sonjia was my favorite, and I still like her. But she's been spotty, and i don't think she'll make it to the final 3.

  13. I love Dmitry and also hope he wins. I had not seen the pretend runway stuff on BPR, so THANK YOU. @libby: I laughed sooooo hard when Dmitry said that to Elena! I like his quiet dignity tempered with true talent. Venn, or whatever his name is, could learn a thing or two from him (and actually, from most of the contestants. Even Gunnar stepped up to the plate before he left).

  14. I too love SYTYCD. A talent show full of actual talent, hard work, and dedication. It's refreshing.

  15. Cyrus cannot dance. We can't even call his style "animation" dancing. its more of just entertainment. Besides the show is rigged, how does a person who has NEVER been at bottom lose over someone who is constantly of the bottom.

  16. I agree that SYTYCD is a great talent show, right up there with America’s Got Talent. I love the dancing, and as the numbers got down to the top 10, I enjoyed the stories about the dances and dancers. Eliana had the best personality and talent, which is why she was America’s favorite. I’m glad I saw the finale though, because sometimes, in the past, I missed a show when a sporting event changed the time of the show, like the Olympics did this year. Since I have my Hopper with PrimeTime Anytime now though, it records the show no matter what time it changes to, during prime time. That’s a relief when I’m expecting my DISH coworkers to come over for a finale party!
